The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you,
rising early and speaking; but ye
hearkened not unto me.
The words of Jonadab son of Rechab have been carried out. He commanded his sons not to drink wine, and they have not
drunk it to this very day because they have obeyed the command of their
forefather. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you have not obeyed Me!
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets,
rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
For though ye had
smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they
rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire army of the Chaldeans that is fighting against you, and only wounded men remained in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city down.”
Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets,
rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this
abominable thing that I
hate.
Yet I sent you all My servants the prophets again and again, saying: ‘Do not do this
detestable thing that I
hate.’
Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?
Who is this,
rising like the Nile, like rivers whose waters
churn?
Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.
Egypt
rises like the Nile, and its waters
churn like rivers,
boasting, ‘I will
rise and cover the earth; I will destroy the cities and their people.’
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters
rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall
howl.
This is what the LORD says: “See how the waters are
rising from the north and becoming an overflowing
torrent. They will overflow the land and its fullness, the cities and their inhabitants. The people will cry out, and all who dwell in the land will
wail I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
I have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent to the nations: “
Assemble yourselves to march against her!
Rise up for battle!”
Concerning
Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall
smite, thus saith the LORD; Arise ye, go up to
Kedar, and
spoil the men of the east.
Concerning
Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated, this is what the LORD says: “
Rise up, advance against
Kedar, and destroy the people of the east!
Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, one that dwells securely,” declares the LORD. “They have no gates or bars; they live alone.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will
stir up against Babylon and against the people of Leb-kamai the spirit of a destroyer.
When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapors to
ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
When He thunders, the waters in the heavens
roar; He causes the clouds to
rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the
lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not
rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be
weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
Then you are to say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and never
rise again, because of the
disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will grow
weary.’” Here end the words of Jeremiah.
The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are
wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to
rise up.
My transgressions are bound into a yoke,
knit together by His hand; they are
draped over my neck, and the Lord has broken my strength. He has delivered me into the hands of those I cannot
withstand.
Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.
When they sit and when they
rise, see how they
mock me in song.
We
gat our bread with the
peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness.
Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would
rise alongside them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
Violence is
risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of any of theirs: neither shall there be
wailing for them.
Their violence has grown into a rod to
punish their wickedness. None of them will remain: none of their multitude, none of their wealth, and nothing of value.
And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his
censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
Before them stood seventy elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had a
censer in his hand, and a
fragrant cloud of incense was
rising.
And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them.
When the
cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them, and even when they spread their wings to
rise from the ground, the wheels did not
veer away from their side.
Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were
risen, waters to
swim in, a river that could not be passed over.
Once again he measured off a thousand cubits, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had
risen and was deep enough for
swimming—a river that could not be crossed on foot.
Then
Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
Nebuchadnezzar declared, “Blessed be the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him. They
violated the king’s command and
risked their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.
And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall
rise after them; and he shall be
diverse from the first, and he shall
subdue three kings.
And the ten horns are ten kings who will
rise from this kingdom. After them another king, different from the earlier ones, will
rise and
subdue three kings.
Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
The four horns that replaced the broken one represent four kingdoms that will rise from that nation, but will not have the same power.
But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
But one from her family line will rise up in his place, come against the army of the king of the North, and enter his fortress, fighting and prevailing.
And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall
exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.
In those times many will
rise up against the king of the South. Violent ones among your own people will
exalt themselves in
fulfillment of the vision, but they will fail.
And after the league made with him he shall work
deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people.
After an alliance is made with him, he will act
deceitfully; for he will
rise to power with only a few people.
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall
pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the
abomination that maketh
desolate.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
“At that time Michael, the great prince who stands watch over your people, will
rise up. There will be a time of distress, the likes of which will not have occurred from the beginning of nations until that time. But at that time your people—
everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered.
Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
So let us know— let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the rain, like the spring showers that water the earth.
Therefore shall a
tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be
spoiled, as Shalman
spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was
dashed in pieces upon her children.
the
roar of battle will
rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be
demolished as Shalman
devastated Beth-arbel in the day of battle, when mothers were
dashed to pieces along with their children.
Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall
spoil the
treasure of all pleasant vessels.
Although he
flourishes among his brothers, an east wind will come— a wind from the LORD
rising up from the desert. His fountain will fail, and his spring will run dry. The wind will
plunder his treasury of every precious article.
But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and
desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his
stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
The northern army I will drive away from you,
banishing it to a barren and
desolate land, its front ranks into the Eastern Sea, and its rear guard into the Western Sea. And its
stench will
rise; its foul
odor will
ascend. For He has done great things.
The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more
rise: she is
forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.
“Fallen is Virgin Israel, never to rise again. She lies abandoned on her land, with no one to raise her up.”
And the high places of Isaac shall be
desolate, and the
sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will
rise against the house of
Jeroboam with the sword.
The high places of Isaac will be deserted, and the
sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will
rise up against the house of
Jeroboam with My sword.”
Shall not the land
tremble for this, and every one
mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall
rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
Will not the land
quake for this, and all its dwellers
mourn? All of it will swell like the Nile; it will
surge and then
subside like the Nile in Egypt.
They that
swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O
Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-
sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never
rise up again.
Those who
swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O
Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way of
Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to
rise again.”
And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall
melt, and all that dwell therein shall
mourn: and it shall
rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
The Lord GOD of Hosts, He who touches the earth and it melts, and all its dwellers
mourn— all the land
rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt—
The vision of
Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning
Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us
rise up against her in battle.
This is the vision of
Obadiah: This is what the Lord GOD says about
Edom— We have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent among the nations to say, “
Rise up, and let us go to battle against her!”—
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a
vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of
Jonah, that he
fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
As the sun was
rising, God appointed a
scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on
Jonah’s head so that he grew
faint and wished to die, saying, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
Even of late my people is
risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the
robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men
averse from war.
But of late My people have
risen up like an enemy: You strip off the splendid
robe from
unsuspecting passersby like men returning from battle.
Arise and
thresh, O daughter of
Zion: for I will make thine horn iron, and I will make thy
hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people: and I will
consecrate their gain unto the LORD, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth.
Rise and
thresh, O Daughter of
Zion, for I will give you horns of iron and
hooves of bronze to break to pieces many peoples. Then you will
devote their gain to the LORD, their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.
For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.
For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies are the members of his own household.
What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end:
affliction shall not
rise up the second time.
Whatever you plot against the LORD, He will bring to an end.
Affliction will not
rise up a second time.
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they
flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Your guards are like the
swarming locust, and your
scribes like clouds of locusts that settle on the walls on a cold day. When the sun
rises, they fly away, and no one knows where.
Shall they not
rise up suddenly that shall
bite thee, and
awake that shall
vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
Will not your creditors suddenly arise and those who
disturb you
awaken? Then you will become their prey.
Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I
rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may
assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine
indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be
devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
Therefore wait for Me,” declares the LORD, “until the day I
rise to
testify. For My decision is to gather nations, to
assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them My
indignation— all My burning anger. For all the earth will be consumed by the fire of My jealousy.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great
tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall
rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
On that day a great
panic from the LORD will come upon them, so that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of one will
rise against the other.
For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
For My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place, incense and pure offerings will be presented in My name, because My name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of Hosts.
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with
healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as
calves of the
stall.
“But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will
rise with
healing in its wings, and you will go out and
leap like
calves from the
stall.
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
Brother will
betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will
rise against their parents and have them put to death.
Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not
risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet even the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
The men of
Nineveh shall
rise in judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: because they
repented at the preaching of
Jonas; and, behold, a greater than
Jonas is here.
The men of
Nineveh will stand at the judgment with this generation and
condemn it; for they
repented at the preaching of
Jonah, and now One greater than
Jonah is here.
The queen of the south shall
rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: for she came from the
uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
The Queen of the South will
rise at the judgment with this generation and
condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and now One greater than Solomon is here.
And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is
risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do
shew forth themselves in him.
and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has
risen from the dead! That is why
miraculous powers are at work in him.”
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Do not tell
anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to
mock, and to
scourge, and to
crucify him: and the third day he shall
rise again.
and will deliver Him over to the Gentiles to be
mocked and
flogged and
crucified. And on the third day He will be raised to life.”
For nation shall
rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in
divers places.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
And many false prophets shall
rise, and shall
deceive many.
and many false prophets will arise and mislead many.
But after I am
risen again, I will go before you into
Galilee.
But after I have
risen, I will go
ahead of you into
Galilee.”
Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that
doth betray me.
Rise, let us go! See, My
betrayer is approaching!”
Saying, Sir, we remember that that
deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will
rise again.
“Sir,” they said, “we remember that while He was alive that
deceiver said, ‘After three days I will
rise again.’
Command therefore that the
sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and
steal him away, and say unto the people, He is
risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
So give the order that the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and
steal Him away and tell the people He has
risen from the dead. And this last
deception would be worse than the first.”
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where He lay.
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is
risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into
Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has
risen from the dead and is going
ahead of you into
Galilee. There you will see Him.’ See, I have told you.”
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and
slipped out to a solitary place to pray.
And if
Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
And if
Satan is divided and
rises against himself, he cannot stand; his end has come.
And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
Night and day he sleeps and wakes, and the seed
sprouts and grows, though he knows not how.
And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was
risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do
shew forth themselves in him.
Now King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known, and people were saying, “John the Baptist has
risen from the dead! That is why
miraculous powers are at work in him.”
But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I
beheaded: he is
risen from the dead.
But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I
beheaded, has
risen from the dead!”
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and
scribes, and be killed, and after three days
rise again.
Then He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and
scribes, and that He must be killed and after three days
rise again.
And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus
admonished them not to tell
anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had
risen from the dead.
And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
So they kept this matter to themselves,
discussing what it meant to
rise from the dead.
For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
because He was teaching His disciples. He told them, “The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after three days He will rise.”
And they shall
mock him, and shall
scourge him, and shall
spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall
rise again.
who will
mock Him and
spit on Him and
flog Him and kill Him. And after three days He will
rise again.”
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man. “Take courage!” they said. “Get up! He is calling for you.”
In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”
For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.
And as touching the dead, that they
rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the
bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
But concerning the dead
rising, have you not read about the burning
bush in the Book of Moses, how God told him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?
For nation shall
rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in
divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, as well as famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
Now the brother shall
betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall
rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.
Brother will
betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will
rise against their parents and have them put to death.
For false Christs and false prophets shall
rise, and shall
shew signs and wonders, to
seduce, if it were possible, even the
elect.
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders that would
deceive even the
elect, if that were possible.
But after that I am
risen, I will go before you into
Galilee.
But after I have
risen, I will go
ahead of you into
Galilee.”
Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
Rise, let us go. See, My
betrayer is approaching!”
And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the
sepulchre at the
rising of the sun.
Very early on the first day of the week, just after
sunrise, they went to the tomb.
And he saith unto them, Be not
affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of
Nazareth, which was
crucified: he is
risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
But he said to them, “Do not be
alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the
Nazarene, who was
crucified. He has
risen! He is not here! See the place where they put Him.
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Early on the first day of the week, after Jesus had risen, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had driven out seven demons.
Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and
upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was
risen.
Later, as they were eating, Jesus appeared to the Eleven and
rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had
risen.
And
Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and
rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
Then
Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary: “Behold, this Child is appointed to cause the
rise and fall of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be
forgiven thee; or to say,
Rise up and walk?
Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are
forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’
But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the
withered hand,
Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to the man with the
withered hand, “Get up and stand among us.” So he got up and stood there.
And there came a fear on all: and they
glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is
risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
A sense of
awe swept over all of them, and they
glorified God. “A great prophet has appeared among us!” they said. “God has visited His people!”
Now Herod the
tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was
perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was
risen from the dead;
When Herod the
tetrarch heard about all that was happening, he was
perplexed. For some were saying that John had
risen from the dead,
And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.
others that
Elijah had appeared, and still others that a prophet of old had arisen.
They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say
Elijah; and still others, that a prophet of old has arisen.”
And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Do not bother me. My door is already shut, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’
I say unto you, Though he will not
rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his
importunity he will
rise and give him as many as he needeth.
I tell you, even though he will not get up to provide for him because of his friendship, yet because of the man’s
persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
The queen of the south shall
rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and
condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and now One greater than Solomon is here.
