sack.” Their hearts

sack was his
bag of silver! And when they and their father saw the bags of silver, they were dismayed.
And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your
sacks, carry it again in your hand;
peradventure it was an oversight:
Take double the silver with you so that you may return the silver that was put back into the mouths of your sacks. Perhaps it was a mistake.
And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our
sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for
bondmen, and our
asses.

sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his

sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each one’s silver in the mouth of his
sack.

sacks’ mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of
Canaan: how then should we

We even brought back to you from the land of
Canaan the silver we found in the mouths of our
sacks. Why would we
steal silver or gold from your master’s house?

merciful. Let us go out to the king of Israel with
sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads. Perhaps he will
spare your life.”

spare my life.’” And the king answered, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

stink; and instead of a
girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair
baldness; and instead of a stomacher a

Instead of
fragrance there will be a
stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of styled hair,
baldness; instead of fine clothing,
sackcloth; instead of beauty, shame.
In their streets they shall
gird themselves with

sackcloth; on the rooftops and in the public squares they all
wail, falling down
weeping.

Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to
afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a
bulrush, and to spread
sackcloth and ashes under him?
wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
Is this the fast I have chosen: a day for a man to deny himself, to bow his head like a reed, and to spread out
sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to the LORD?
So put on
sackcloth,
mourn and
wail, for the fierce anger of the LORD has not turned away from us.”

yourselves in

Howl, O
Heshbon, for
Ai is
spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah,
gird you with
sackcloth;
lament, and run to and
fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, and his priests and his princes together.

Heshbon, for
Ai has been destroyed; cry out, O daughters of Rabbah! Put on
sackcloth and
mourn; run back and forth within your walls, for Milcom will go into exile together with his priests and officials.
The elders of the daughter of
Zion sit upon the ground, and keep silence: they have cast up dust upon their heads; they have
girded themselves with
sackcloth: the virgins of Jerusalem
hang down their heads to the ground.
The elders of the Daughter of
Zion sit on the ground in silence. They have thrown dust on their heads and put on
sackcloth. The young women of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.
They shall also
gird themselves with
sackcloth, and
horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and
baldness upon all their heads.

sackcloth, and terror will
overwhelm them. Shame will cover all their faces, and all their heads will be
shaved.

sackcloth, and they shall

wailing.
As soon as you hear the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the golden statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar has set up.
Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Therefore, as soon as all the people heard the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, and all kinds of music, the people of every nation and language would fall down and worship the golden statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and
dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
You, O king, have issued a decree that
everyone who hears the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, pipes, and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the golden statue,
Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and
dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning
fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
Now, if you are ready, as soon as you hear the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the statue I have made. But if you refuse to worship, you will be thrown at once into the
blazing fiery furnace. Then what god will be able to deliver you from my hands?”
And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and
sackcloth, and ashes:

sackcloth, and ashes.
Gird yourselves, and
lament, ye priests:
howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in
sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is
withholden from the house of your God.
Put on
sackcloth and
lament, O priests;
wail, O ministers of the altar. Come,
spend the night in
sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because the grain and drink offerings are
withheld from the house of your God.
And I will turn your feasts into
mourning, and all your songs into
lamentation; and I will bring up
sackcloth upon all loins, and
baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the
mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
So the people of

sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.
For word came unto the king of
Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his
robe from him, and covered him with
sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal
robe, covered himself with
sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
But let man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and cry
mightily unto God:
yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Furthermore, let both man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and have
everyone call out earnestly to God. Let each one turn from his evil ways and from the violence in his hands.
Woe unto thee, Chorazin!
woe unto thee,
Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have
repented long ago in
sackcloth and ashes.
“
Woe to you, Chorazin!
Woe to you,
Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have
repented long ago in
sackcloth and ashes.
Woe unto thee, Chorazin!
woe unto thee,
Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and
Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago
repented, sitting in
sackcloth and ashes.
Woe to you, Chorazin!
Woe to you,
Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have
repented long ago, sitting in
sackcloth and ashes.

beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great
earthquake; and the sun became black as

sackcloth which she had on, and put off the garments of her
widowhood, and washed her body all over with water, and
anointed herself with precious
ointment, and
braided the hair of her head, and put on a
tire upon it, and put on her garments of
gladness,
wherewith she was
clad during the life of Manasses her husband.
