Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas.
Your
oarsmen have brought you
onto the high
seas, but the east wind will
shatter you in the heart of the
sea.
Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy
merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy
merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the
seas in the day of thy ruin.
Your wealth, wares, and
merchandise, your sailors, captains, and shipwrights, your merchants and all the warriors within you, with all the other people on board, will sink into the heart of the
sea on the day of your
downfall.
And all that handle the
oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the
sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;
All who handle the oars will
abandon their ships. The sailors and all the captains of the
sea will stand on the shore.
And in their
wailing they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and
lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the
sea?
As they
wail and
mourn over you, they will take up a
lament for you: ‘Who was ever like Tyre, silenced in the middle of the
sea?
When thy wares went forth out of the
seas, thou filledst many people; thou
didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy
merchandise.
When your wares went out to
sea, you satisfied many nations. You enriched the kings of the earth with your abundant wealth and
merchandise.
In the time when thou shalt be broken by the
seas in the depths of the waters thy
merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.
Now you are
shattered by the
seas in the depths of the waters; your
merchandise and the people among you have gone down with you.
Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
“Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre that this is what the Lord GOD says: Your heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea.’ Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god.
They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas.
They will bring you down to the Pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas.
Son of man, take up a
lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou
sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
“Son of man, take up a
lament for the king of Tyre and tell him that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You were the
seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
Son of man, take up a
lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a
whale in the
seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers.
“Son of man, take up a
lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: ‘You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a
monster in the
seas. You
thrash about in your rivers,
churning up the waters with your feet and
muddying the streams.’
The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye
healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.
You have not strengthened the weak,
healed the sick, bound up the injured, brought back the strays, or
searched for the lost. Instead, you have ruled them with violence and cruelty.
My sheep
wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill:
yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did
search or seek after them.
My flock went
astray on all the mountains and every high hill. They were scattered over the face of all the earth, with no one to
search for them or seek them out.’
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no
shepherd, neither did my
shepherds search for my flock, but the
shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock;
‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, because My flock lacks a
shepherd and has become prey and food for every wild beast, and because My
shepherds did not
search for My flock but fed themselves instead,
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I Myself will search for My flock and seek them out.
And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.
I will make them and the places around My hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season—showers of blessing.
So that the fishes of the
sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all
creeping things that
creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall
shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
The fish of the
sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that crawls upon the ground, and all mankind on the face of the earth will
tremble at My presence. The mountains will be thrown down, the cliffs will
collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto
Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the
sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they
bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of
Hamon-
gog.
And on that day I will give
Gog a burial place in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the
Sea. It will block those who travel through, because
Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of
Hamon-
gog.
And they shall
sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to
bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to
cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they
search.
And men will be employed to continually pass through the land to
cleanse it by
burying the invaders who remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their
search.
Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the
sea: which being brought forth into the
sea, the waters shall be
healed.
And he said to me, “This water flows out to the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah. When it
empties into the
Sea, the water there becomes fresh.
And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from En-gedi even unto En-eglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many.
Fishermen will stand by the shore; from En-gedi to En-eglaim they will spread their nets to catch fish of many kinds, like the fish of the Great
Sea.
And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side, from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad;
This shall be the boundary of the land:
Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of
Hamath; Hazar-hatticon, which is by the coast of
Hauran.
On the north side it will extend from the Great
Sea by way of Hethlon through Lebo-
hamath to Zedad, Berothah, and Sibraim (which is on the border between Damascus and
Hamath), as far as Hazer-hatticon, which is on the border of
Hauran.
And the border from the
sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of
Hamath. And this is the north side.
So the border will run from the
Sea to Hazar-enan, along the northern border of Damascus, with the territory of
Hamath to the north. This will be the northern boundary.
And the east side ye shall measure from
Hauran, and from Damascus, and from
Gilead, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the border unto the east
sea. And this is the east side.
On the east side the border will run between
Hauran and Damascus, along the Jordan between
Gilead and the land of Israel, to the Eastern
Sea and as far as Tamar. This will be the eastern boundary.
And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of
strife in Kadesh, the river to the great
sea. And this is the south side southward.
On the south side it will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, and along the
Brook of Egypt to the Great
Sea. This will be the southern boundary.
The west side also shall be the great
sea from the border, till a man come over against
Hamath. This is the west side.
And on the west side, the Great
Sea will be the boundary up to a point opposite Lebo-
hamath. This will be the western boundary.
And by the border of
Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be even from Tamar unto the waters of
strife in Kadesh, and to the river toward the great
sea.
The southern border of
Gad will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, then along the
Brook of Egypt and out to the Great
Sea.
And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
He changes the times and
seasons; He removes kings and establishes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the
discerning.
And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king
sealed it with his own
signet, and with the
signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king
sealed it with his own
signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that nothing concerning Daniel could be changed.
Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven
strove upon the great
sea.
Daniel declared: “In my vision in the night I looked, and suddenly the four winds of heaven were
churning up the great
sea.
And four great beasts came up from the
sea,
diverse one from another.
Then four great beasts came up out of the sea, each one different from the others:
I
beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the
fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
As I continued to watch, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His
seat. His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all
ablaze.
As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.
As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was removed, but they were granted an extension of life for a season and a time.
And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.
The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been spoken is true. Now you must seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the
transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make
reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in
everlasting righteousness, and to
seal up the vision and prophecy, and to
anoint the most Holy.
Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and your holy city to stop their
transgression, to put an end to sin, to make
atonement for iniquity, to bring in
everlasting righteousness, to
seal up vision and prophecy, and to
anoint the Most Holy Place.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to
seal the agreement. But his daughter will not retain her position of power, nor will his strength
endure. At that time she will be given up, along with her royal
escort and her father and the one who supported her.
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
He will pitch his royal tents between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain, but he will meet his end with no one to help him.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and
seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and
fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
But you, Daniel, shut up these words and
seal the book until the time of the end. Many will
roam to and
fro, and knowledge will increase.”
And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
“Go on your way, Daniel,” he replied, “for the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end.
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. And it will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’
Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
Therefore I will take back My grain in its time and My new wine in its season; I will take away My wool and linen, which were given to cover her nakedness.
Therefore shall the land
mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall
languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven;
yea, the fishes of the
sea also shall be taken away.
Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it will waste away with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air; even the fish of the sea disappear.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to
Baal-peor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the firstfruits of the fig tree in its first
season. But they went to
Baal-peor, and consecrated themselves to Shame; so they became as
detestable as the thing they loved.
But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and
desolate, with his face toward the east
sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost
sea, and his
stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
The northern army I will drive away from you,
banishing it to a barren and
desolate land, its front ranks into the Eastern
Sea, and its rear guard into the Western
Sea. And its
stench will rise; its foul
odor will
ascend. For He has done great things.
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and
Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the
sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:
He who made the
Pleiades and
Orion, who turns darkness into
dawn and darkens day into night, who
summons the waters of the
sea and pours them over the face of the earth— the LORD is His name—
Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
You dismiss the day of
calamity and bring near a reign of violence.
Shall horses run upon the rock? will one
plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into
hemlock:
“Do horses
gallop on the cliffs? Does one
plow the
sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into
wormwood—
And they shall
wander from
sea to
sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and
fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
People will
stagger from
sea to
sea and
roam from north to east, seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.
And though they hide themselves in the top of
Carmel, I will
search and take them out thence; and though they be
hid from my sight in the bottom of the
sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall
bite them:
Though they hide themselves
atop Carmel, there I will
track them and seize them; and though they hide from Me at the bottom of the
sea, there I will command the serpent to
bite them.
It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his
troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the
sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.
He builds His upper rooms in the heavens and founds His
vault upon the earth. He
summons the waters of the
sea and pours them over the face of the earth. The LORD is His name.
How are the things of
Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!
But how
Esau will be
pillaged, his hidden treasures sought out!
But the LORD sent out a great wind into the
sea, and there was a mighty
tempest in the
sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
Then the LORD
hurled a great wind upon the
sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship was in danger of breaking apart.
Then the mariners were afraid, and
cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the
sea, to
lighten it of them. But
Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast
asleep.
The sailors were afraid, and each
cried out to his own god. And they threw the ship’s
cargo into the
sea to
lighten the load. But
Jonah had gone down to the lowest part of the vessel, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
“I am a Hebrew,” replied
Jonah. “I worship the LORD, the God of the heavens, who made the
sea and the dry land.”
Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the
sea may be calm unto us? for the
sea wrought, and was
tempestuous.
Now the
sea was growing worse and worse, so they said to
Jonah, “What must we do to you to calm this
sea for us?”
And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the
sea; so shall the
sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great
tempest is upon you.
“
Pick me up,” he answered, “and cast me into the
sea, so it may quiet down for you. For I know that I am to
blame for this violent storm that has come upon you.”
Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the
sea wrought, and was
tempestuous against them.
Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they could not, for the
sea was
raging against them more and more.
So they took up
Jonah, and cast him forth into the
sea: and the
sea ceased from her
raging.
At this, they
picked up
Jonah and cast him into the
sea, and the
raging sea grew calm.
For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the
seas, and the current
swirled about me; all Your breakers and waves swept over me.
The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were
wrapped about my head.
Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy
bosom.
Do not
rely on a friend; do not trust in a companion.
Seal the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your arms.
In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.
On that day they will come to you from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, even from Egypt to the Euphrates, from sea to sea and mountain to mountain.
He rebuketh the
sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers:
Bashan languisheth, and
Carmel, and the flower of
Lebanon languisheth.
He rebukes the
sea and dries it up; He makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and
Carmel wither, and the flower of
Lebanon wilts.
Art thou better than
populous No, that was
situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose
rampart was the
sea, and her wall was from the
sea?
Are you better than
Thebes, stationed by the Nile with water around her, whose
rampart was the
sea, whose wall was the water?
And makest men as the fishes of the
sea, as the
creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
You have made men like the fish of the
sea, like
creeping things that have no ruler.
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the
sea, that thou
didst ride upon thine horses and thy
chariots of salvation?
Were You
angry at the rivers, O LORD? Was Your wrath against the streams? Did You
rage against the
sea when You
rode on Your horses, on Your
chariots of salvation?
Thou
didst walk through the
sea with thine horses, through the
heap of great waters.
I will
consume man and beast; I will
consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the
sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.
“I will
sweep away man and beast; I will
sweep away the birds of the air, and the fish of the
sea, and the idols with their wicked worshipers. I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth,” declares the LORD.
And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will
search Jerusalem with candles, and
punish the men that are settled on their
lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.
And at that time I will
search Jerusalem with lamps and
punish the men settled in
complacency, who say to themselves, ‘The LORD will do nothing, either good or bad.’
Woe unto the inhabitants of the
sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O
Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.
Woe to the dwellers of the
seacoast, O nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you, O
Canaan, land of the Philistines: “I will destroy you, and no one will be left.”
And the
sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for
shepherds, and folds for flocks.
So the
seacoast will become a land of pastures, with wells for
shepherds and folds for sheep.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will
shake the heavens, and the earth, and the
sea, and the dry land;
For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Once more, in a little while, I will
shake the heavens and the earth, the
sea and the dry land.
Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
Hear now, O high priest Joshua, you and your companions seated before you, who are indeed a sign. For behold, I am going to bring My servant, the Branch.
Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will
smite her power in the
sea; and she shall be
devoured with fire.
Behold, the Lord will
impoverish her and cast her wealth into the
sea, and she will be consumed by fire.
And I will cut off the
chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from
sea even to
sea, and from river even to the ends of the earth.
And I will cut off the
chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem, and the bow of war will be broken. Then He will
proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion will extend from
sea to
sea, and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth.
And he shall pass through the
sea with
affliction, and shall
smite the waves in the
sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the
sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.
They will pass through the
sea of distress and strike the waves of the
sea; all the depths of the Nile will dry up. The pride of Assyria will be brought down, and the
scepter of Egypt will depart.
And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
And on that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it toward the Eastern Sea and the other half toward the Western Sea, in summer and winter alike.
And he sent them to
Bethlehem, and said, Go and
search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
And sending them to
Bethlehem, he said: “Go and
search carefully for the Child, and when you find Him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship Him.”
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and
flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
When the
Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and
flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to
search for the Child to kill Him.”
And leaving
Nazareth, he came and dwelt in
Capernaum, which is upon the
sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the
sea, beyond Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles;
And Jesus, walking by the
sea of
Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the
sea: for they were fishers.
As Jesus was walking beside the
Sea of
Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the
sea, for they were
fishermen.
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
When Jesus saw a large crowd around Him, He gave orders to cross to the other side of the sea.
And, behold, there arose a great
tempest in the
sea,
insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was
asleep.
Suddenly a violent storm came up on the
sea, so that the boat was
engulfed by the waves; but Jesus was sleeping.
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and
rebuked the winds and the
sea; and there was a great calm.
“You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and
rebuked the winds and the
sea, and it was perfectly calm.
But the men
marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the
sea obey him!
The men were
amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the
sea obey Him!”
And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the
herd of
swine: and, behold, the whole
herd of
swine ran violently down a steep place into the
sea, and perished in the waters.
“Go!” He told them. So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole
herd rushed down the steep bank into the
sea and died in the waters.
The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea.
Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when
tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is
offended.
But since he has no root, he remains for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and caught all kinds of fish.
But the ship was now in the midst of the
sea,
tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
but the boat was already far from land,
buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
During the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea.
And when the disciples saw him walking on the
sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they
cried out for fear.
When the disciples saw Him walking on the
sea, they were
terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and
cried out in fear.
And Jesus departed from thence, and came
nigh unto the
sea of
Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.
Moving on from there, Jesus went along the
Sea of
Galilee. Then He went up on a mountain and sat down.
Notwithstanding, lest we should
offend them, go thou to the
sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
“But so that we may not
offend them, go to the
sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a four-
drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.”
But
whoso shall
offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a
millstone were
hanged about his neck, and that he were
drowned in the depth of the
sea.
But if
anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to
stumble, it would be better for him to have a large
millstone hung around his neck and to be
drowned in the depths of the
sea.
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone
astray,
doth he not leave the
ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone
astray?
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes
astray, will he not leave the
ninety-nine on the hills and go out to
search for the one that is lost?
