And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his
concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and
sent her into all the coasts of Israel.
When he reached his house, he
picked up a knife, took hold of his
concubine, cut her limb by limb into twelve pieces, and
sent her throughout the territory of Israel.
And I took my
concubine, and cut her in pieces, and
sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed
lewdness and folly in Israel.
Then I took my
concubine, cut her into pieces, and
sent her throughout the land of Israel’s inheritance, because they had committed a
lewd and disgraceful act in Israel.
And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?
And the tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?
Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.
The men of Israel had arranged a signal with the men in
ambush: When they
sent up a great cloud of smoke from the city,
And the congregation
sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and
smite the inhabitants of
Jabesh-
gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.
So the congregation
sent 12,000 of their most
valiant men and commanded them: “Go and put to the sword those living in
Jabesh-
gilead, including women and children.
And the whole congregation
sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock
Rimmon, and to call
peaceably unto them.
Then the whole congregation
sent a message of peace to the Benjamites who were at the rock of
Rimmon.
The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.
The LORD sends poverty and wealth; He humbles and He exalts.
So the people
sent to
Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of
Eli,
Hophni and
Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
So the people
sent men to
Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the LORD of Hosts, who sits enthroned between the
cherubim. And the two sons of
Eli,
Hophni and
Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
They
sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto
Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” “It must be moved to
Gath,” they replied. So they carried away the ark of the God of Israel.
Therefore they
sent the ark of God to
Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to
Ekron, that the Ekronites
cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to
slay us and our people.
So they
sent the ark of God to
Ekron, but as it arrived, the Ekronites
cried out, “They have brought us the ark of the God of Israel in order to kill us and our people!”
So they
sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said,
Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it
slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
Then the Ekronites assembled all the rulers of the Philistines and said, “
Send away the ark of the God of Israel. It must return to its place, so that it will not kill us and our people!” For a deadly confusion had
pervaded the city; the hand of God was heavy upon it.
And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us
wherewith we shall
send it to his place.
the Philistines summoned the priests and diviners, saying, “What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us how to send it back to its place.”
And they said, If ye
send away the ark of the God of Israel,
send it not empty; but in any wise return him a
trespass offering: then ye shall be
healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.
They replied, “If you return the ark of the God of Israel, do not
send it away empty, but by all means return it to Him with a guilt offering. Then you will be
healed, and you will understand why His hand has not been lifted from you.”
Then said they, What shall be the
trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden
emerods, and five golden
mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.
“What guilt offering should we send back to Him?” asked the Philistines. “Five gold tumors and five gold rats,” they said, “according to the number of rulers of the Philistines, since the same plague has struck both you and your rulers.
Wherefore then do ye
harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh
hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?
Why
harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh
hardened theirs? When He
afflicted them, did they not
send the people on their way as they departed?
And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the
cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a
trespass offering, in a
coffer by the side thereof; and
send it away, that it may go.
Take the ark of the LORD, set it on the
cart, and in a chest beside it put the gold objects you are
sending Him as a guilt offering. Then
send the ark on its way,
As a guilt offering to the LORD, the Philistines had
sent back one gold
tumor for each city:
Ashdod,
Gaza, Ashkelon,
Gath, and
Ekron.
And they
sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and
fetch it up to you.
So they sent messengers to the people of Kiriath-jearim, saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the LORD. Come down and take it up with you.”
To
morrow about this time I will
send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt
anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
“At this time
tomorrow I will
send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you are to
anoint him leader over My people Israel; he will save them from the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.”
And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the
seer: go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me to day, and to
morrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
“I am the
seer,” Samuel replied. “Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me
today. And when I
send you off in the morning, I will tell you all that is in your heart.
And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.
They got up early in the morning, and just before
dawn Samuel called to Saul on the roof, “Get ready, and I will
send you on your way!” So Saul arose, and both he and Samuel went outside together.
Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
Then Samuel explained to the people the rights of
kingship. He wrote them on a
scroll and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel
sent all the people away, each to his own home.
And the elders of
Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days respite, that we may
send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.
“Hold off for seven days,” replied the elders of
Jabesh, “and let us
send messengers throughout Israel. If there is no one to save us, we will surrender to you.”
And he took a yoke of oxen, and
hewed them in pieces, and
sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying,
Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
He took a pair of oxen, cut them into pieces, and
sent them by messengers throughout the land of Israel,
proclaiming, “This is what will be done to the oxen of
anyone who does not march behind Saul and Samuel.” Then the terror of the LORD fell upon the people, and they turned out as one man.
When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers
cried unto the LORD, then the LORD
sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.
When Jacob went to Egypt, your fathers
cried out to the LORD, and He
sent them Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.
And the LORD
sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and
Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.
So the LORD
sent Jerubbaal,
Barak,
Jephthah, and Samuel, and He delivered you from the hands of your enemies on every side, and you dwelt securely.
Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall
send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
Is it not the wheat harvest
today? I will call on the LORD to
send thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you have committed in the sight of the LORD by asking for a king.”
So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD
sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
So Samuel called to the LORD, and on that day the LORD
sent thunder and rain. As a result, all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel;
whereof two thousand were with Saul in
Michmash and in mount
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he
sent every man to his tent.
He chose for himself three thousand men of Israel: Two thousand were with Saul at
Michmash and in the hill country of
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. And the rest of the troops he
sent away, each to his own home.
And between the passages, by which
Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines’ garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other
Seneh.
Now there were cliffs on both sides of the pass that
Jonathan intended to cross to reach the
Philistine outpost. One was named Bozez and the other
Seneh.
Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD
sent me to
anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore
hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.
Then Samuel said to Saul, “The LORD
sent me to
anoint you king over His people Israel. Now therefore,
listen to the words of the LORD.
And the LORD
sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the
Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
and
sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and
devote to destruction the sinful
Amalekites. Fight against them until you have
wiped them out.’
And Saul said unto Samuel,
Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD
sent me, and have brought
Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the
Amalekites.
“But I did obey the LORD,” Saul replied. “I went on the mission that the LORD gave me. I brought back
Agag king of Amalek and devoted the
Amalekites to destruction.
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long
wilt thou
mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will
send thee to
Jesse the
Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long are you going to
mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am
sending you to
Jesse of
Bethlehem, for I have selected from his sons a king for Myself.”
And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto
Jesse,
Send and
fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come
hither.
And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,”
Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “
Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”
And he
sent, and brought him in. Now he was
ruddy, and
withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise,
anoint him: for this is he.
So
Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was
ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and
anoint him, for he is the one.”
Wherefore Saul
sent messengers unto
Jesse, and said,
Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.
So Saul
sent messengers to
Jesse and said, “
Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”
And
Jesse took an
ass laden with bread, and a
bottle of wine, and a
kid, and
sent them by David his son unto Saul.
And
Jesse took a
donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and one young goat, and
sent them to Saul with his son David.
And Saul
sent to
Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.
Then Saul
sent word to
Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”
And when the words were heard which David spake, they
rehearsed them before Saul: and he
sent for him.
Now David’s words were overheard and reported to Saul, who called for him.
And David went out
whithersoever Saul
sent him, and
behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
So David marched out and
prospered in everything Saul
sent him to do, and Saul set him over the men of war. And this was pleasing in the sight of all the people, and of Saul’s officers as well.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he
prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a
javelin in Saul’s hand.
The next day a spirit of distress
sent from God came upon Saul, and he
prophesied inside the house while David played the
harp as usual. Now Saul was holding a
spear,
Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
Therefore Saul sent David away and gave him command of a thousand men. David led the troops out to battle and back,
Saul also
sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to
slay him in the morning: and Michal David’s wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to
morrow thou shalt be slain.
Then Saul
sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and kill him in the morning. But David’s wife Michal
warned him, “If you do not run for your life
tonight,
tomorrow you will be dead!”
And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.
When Saul sent the messengers to seize David, Michal said, “He is ill.”
And Saul
sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may
slay him.
But Saul sent the messengers back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so I can kill him.”
And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou
deceived me so, and
sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?
And Saul said to Michal, “Why did you
deceive me like this? You
sent my enemy away and he has escaped!” Michal replied, “He said to me, ‘Help me get away, or I will kill you!’”
And Saul
sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets
prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also
prophesied.
he
sent messengers to capture him. But when they saw the group of prophets
prophesying, with Samuel leading them, the Spirit of God came upon them, and Saul’s messengers also began to
prophesy.
And when it was told Saul, he
sent other messengers, and they
prophesied likewise. And Saul
sent messengers again the third time, and they
prophesied also.
When this was reported to Saul, he
sent more messengers, but they began to
prophesy as well. So Saul tried again and
sent messengers a third time, and even they began to
prophesy.
And
Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to
morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then
send not unto thee, and
shew it thee;
and
Jonathan said, “By the LORD, the God of Israel, I will sound out my father by this time
tomorrow or the next day. If he is favorable toward you, will I not
send for you and tell you?
The LORD do so and much more to
Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will
shew it thee, and
send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
But if my father intends to bring evil on you, then may the LORD
punish me, and ever so severely, if I do not tell you and
send you on your way in safety. May the LORD be with you, just as He has been with my father.
And, behold, I will
send a
lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the
lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no
hurt; as the LORD liveth.
Then I will send a boy and say, ‘Go, find the arrows!’ Now, if I expressly say to him, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you; bring them,’ then come, because as surely as the LORD lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger.
But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.
But if I say to the young man, ‘Look, the arrows are beyond you,’ then you must go, for the LORD has sent you away.
For as long as the son of
Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now
send and
fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.
For as long as the son of
Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your
kingship shall be established. Now
send for him and bring him to me, for he must surely die!”
And David said unto
Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business
whereabout I
send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.
“The king has given me a mission,” David replied. “He told me no one is to know about the mission or charge. And I have directed my young men to meet me at a certain place.
Then the king
sent to call
Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests that were in
Nob: and they came all of them to the king.
Then the king
sent messengers to
summon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and his father’s whole family, who were priests at
Nob. And all of them came to the king.
And David
sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to
Carmel, and go to Nabal, and
greet him in my name:
But one of the young men told
Abigail, Nabal’s wife, saying, Behold, David
sent messengers out of the wilderness to
salute our master; and he railed on them.
Meanwhile, one of Nabal’s young men informed Nabal’s wife
Abigail, “Look, David
sent messengers from the wilderness to
greet our master, but he
scolded them.
Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of
Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine
handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou
didst send.
My lord should pay no attention to this
scoundrel Nabal, for he lives up to his name: His name means
Fool, and folly accompanies him. I, your servant, did not see my lord’s young men whom you
sent.
And David said to
Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which
sent thee this day to meet me:
Then David said to
Abigail, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who
sent you to meet me this day!
And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that hath
pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David
sent and communed with
Abigail, to take her to him to wife.
On hearing that Nabal was dead, David said, “Blessed be the LORD, who has
upheld my cause against the reproach of Nabal and has restrained His servant from evil. For the LORD has brought the wickedness of Nabal down upon his own head.” Then David
sent word to
Abigail, asking for her in marriage.
And when the servants of David were come to
Abigail to
Carmel, they spake unto her, saying, David
sent us unto thee to take thee to him to wife.
When his servants came to
Abigail at
Carmel, they said, “David has
sent us to take you as his wife.”
David therefore
sent out
spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.
And the princes of the Philistines were
wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an
adversary to us: for
wherewith should he
reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
But the commanders of the Philistines were
angry with Achish and told him, “
Send that man back and let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle only to become our
adversary during the war. What better way for him to regain the favor of his master than with the heads of our men?
And when David came to
Ziklag, he
sent of the
spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the
spoil of the enemies of the LORD;
When David arrived in
Ziklag, he
sent some of the
plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, “Here is a gift for you from the
plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”
To them which were in
Bethel, and to them which were in south
Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir,
And they cut off his head, and
stripped off his armour, and
sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to
publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
They cut off Saul’s head,
stripped off his
armor, and
sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to
proclaim the news in the temples of their idols and among their people.
And David
sent messengers unto the men of
Jabesh-
gilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the LORD, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.
So David
sent messengers to the men of
Jabesh-
gilead to tell them, “The LORD
bless you, because you showed this kindness to Saul your lord when you buried him.
And
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.
Then
Abner sent messengers in his place to say to David, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and surely my hand will be with you to bring all Israel over to you.”
And David
sent messengers to
Ish-bosheth Saul’s son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I
espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.
Then David
sent messengers to say to
Ish-bosheth son of Saul, “Give me back my wife, Michal, whom I
betrothed to myself for a hundred
Philistine foreskins.”
And
Ish-bosheth
sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.
So
Ish-bosheth
sent and took Michal from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.
And
Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David
sent Abner away; and he went in peace.
Then
Abner said to David, “Let me go at once, and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires.” So David dismissed
Abner, and he went in peace.
And, Behold, the servants of David and
Joab came from pursuing a
troop, and brought in a great
spoil with them: but
Abner was not with David in
Hebron; for he had
sent him away, and he was gone in peace.
Just then David’s soldiers and
Joab returned from a
raid, bringing with them a great
plunder. But
Abner was not with David in
Hebron because David had
sent him on his way in peace.
When
Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told
Joab, saying,
Abner the son of
Ner came to the king, and he hath
sent him away, and he is gone in peace.
When
Joab and all his troops arrived, he was informed, “
Abner son of
Ner came to see the king, who
sent him on his way in peace.”
Then
Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold,
Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast
sent him away, and he is quite gone?
So
Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Look,
Abner came to you. Why did you dismiss him? Now he is getting away!
And when
Joab was come out from David, he
sent messengers after
Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.
As soon as
Joab had left David, he
sent messengers after
Abner, who brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David was unaware of it.
And
Hiram king of Tyre
sent messengers to David, and
cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.
Now
Hiram king of Tyre
sent envoys to David, along with
cedar logs, carpenters, and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David.
Then Toi
sent Joram his son unto king David, to
salute him, and to
bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and
smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And
Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:
he
sent his son
Joram to
greet King David and
bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Toi.
Joram brought with him articles of silver and gold and bronze,
Then king David
sent, and
fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo-
debar.
So King David had him brought from the house of Machir son of Ammiel in Lo-
debar.
Then said David, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David
sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of
Ammon.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David
sent some of his servants to
console Hanun concerning his father. But when they arrived in the land of the
Ammonites,
And the princes of the children of
Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath
sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather
sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to
spy it out, and to overthrow it?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Just because David has
sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Has not David instead
sent his servants to
explore the city,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and
shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and
sent them away.
So Hanun took David’s servants,
shaved off half of each man’s
beard, cut off their garments at the hips, and
sent them away.
When they told it unto David, he
sent to meet them, because the men were greatly
ashamed: and the king said,
Tarry at
Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
When this was reported to David, he
sent messengers to meet the men, since they had been thoroughly
humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in
Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then return.”
And when the children of
Ammon saw that they
stank before David, the children of
Ammon sent and
hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand
footmen, and of king
Maacah a thousand men, and of
Ish-
tob twelve thousand men.
When the
Ammonites realized that they had become a
stench to David, they
