And Jehoash the king of Israel
sent to
Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The
thistle that was in
Lebanon sent to the
cedar that was in
Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in
Lebanon, and
trode down the
thistle.
And conspirators
plotted against
Amaziah in Jerusalem, and he fled to
Lachish. But men were
sent after him to
Lachish, and they killed him there.
In those days the LORD began to send against Judah Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah.
(In those days the LORD began to
send Rezin king of
Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah against Judah.)
At that time Rezin king of Syria recovered
Elath to Syria, and
drave the Jews from
Elath: and the Syrians came to
Elath, and dwelt there unto this day.
At that time Rezin king of
Aram recovered
Elath for
Aram, drove out the men of Judah, and
sent the Edomites into
Elath, where they live to this day.
So
Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, which rise up against me.
So
Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hands of the kings of
Aram and Israel, who are rising up against me.”
And
Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and
sent it for a present to the king of Assyria.
Ahaz also took the silver and gold found in the house of the LORD and in the
treasuries of the king’s palace, and he
sent it as a gift to the king of Assyria.
And king
Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that was at Damascus: and king
Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the
workmanship thereof.
Then King
Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria. On seeing the altar in Damascus, King
Ahaz sent Uriah the priest a model of the altar and complete plans for its construction.
And Urijah the priest built an altar according to all that king
Ahaz had
sent from Damascus: so Urijah the priest made it against king
Ahaz came from Damascus.
And Uriah the priest built the altar according to all the instructions King
Ahaz had
sent from Damascus, and he completed it by the time King
Ahaz had returned.
And the king of Assyria found
conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had
sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea had
conspired to
send envoys to King So of Egypt, and that he had not paid tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years. Therefore the king of Assyria arrested Hoshea and put him in prison.
Yet the LORD
testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I
sent to you by my servants the prophets.
Yet through all His prophets and seers, the LORD
warned Israel and Judah, saying, “Turn from your wicked ways and keep My commandments and statutes, according to the entire Law that I commanded your fathers and delivered to you through My servants the prophets.”
And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD
sent lions among them, which
slew some of them.
Now when the settlers first lived there, they did not worship the LORD, so He sent lions among them, which killed some of them.
Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath
sent lions among them, and, behold, they
slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.
So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The peoples that you have removed and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the God of the land. Because of this, He has sent lions among them, which are indeed killing them off.”
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Then the king of Assyria commanded: “Send back one of the priests you carried off from Samaria, and have him go back to live there and teach the requirements of the God of the land.”
And
Hezekiah king of Judah
sent to the king of Assyria to
Lachish, saying, I have
offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
So
Hezekiah king of Judah
sent word to the king of Assyria at
Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; withdraw from me, and I will pay whatever you demand from me.” And the king of Assyria exacted from
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
And the king of Assyria
sent Tartan and Rabsaris and
Rab-shakeh from
Lachish to king
Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the
conduit of the upper
pool, which is in the
highway of the fuller’s field.
Nevertheless, the king of Assyria
sent the
Tartan, the Rabsaris, and the
Rabshakeh, along with a great army, from
Lachish to King
Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They advanced up to Jerusalem and stationed themselves by the
aqueduct of the upper
pool, on the road to the
Launderer’s Field.
But
Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master
sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not
sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you.
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master
sent me to speak these words only to you and your master, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
And he
sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with
sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
And he
sent Eliakim the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing
sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz
It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of
Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath
sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the
remnant that are left.
Perhaps the LORD your God will hear all the words of the
Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has
sent to
defy the living God, and He will
rebuke him for the words that the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the
remnant that still survives.”
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a
rumor and return to his own land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of
Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he
sent messengers again unto
Hezekiah, saying,
LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of
Sennacherib, which hath
sent him to reproach the living God.
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz
sent to
Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against
Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.
Then Isaiah son of Amoz
sent a message to
Hezekiah: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I have heard your prayer concerning
Sennacherib king of Assyria.
Because thy
rage against me and thy
tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my
bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
Because your
rage and
arrogance against Me have reached My ears, I will put My hook in your nose and My
bit in your mouth; I will
send you back the way you came.’
So
Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to
Nineveh and stayed there.
At that time Berodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon,
sent letters and a present unto
Hezekiah: for he had heard that
Hezekiah had been sick.
At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon
sent letters and a gift to
Hezekiah, for he had heard about
Hezekiah’s illness.
And it came to pass in the
eighteenth year of king
Josiah, that the king
sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the
scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,
Now in the
eighteenth year of his reign, King
Josiah sent the
scribe, Shaphan son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, to the house of the LORD, saying,
And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,
And Huldah said to them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Tell the man who sent you
But to the king of Judah which
sent you to
enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for the words that you heard,
And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.
Then the king summoned all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
And as
Josiah turned himself, he
spied the
sepulchres that were there in the mount, and
sent, and took the bones out of the
sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and
polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
And as
Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the
hillside, and he
sent someone to take the bones out of the tombs, and he burned them on the altar to
defile it, according to the word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who had
foretold these things.
And the LORD
sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of
Ammon, and
sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.
Now the people of the half-tribe of
Manasseh were numerous. They settled in the land from
Bashan to
Baal-
hermon (that is,
Senir, also known as Mount
Hermon).
And Jehozadak went into captivity, when the LORD carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar.
Jehozadak went into captivity when the LORD
sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar.
And Shaharaim
begat children in the country of Moab, after he had
sent them away; Hushim and Baara were his wives.
Shaharaim had sons in the country of Moab after he had
divorced his wives Hushim and Baara.
And when they had
stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and
sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry
tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
They
stripped Saul, cut off his head, took his
armor, and
sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to
proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people.
And there fell some of
Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon
advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul to the
jeopardy of our heads.
Some from
Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (They did not help the Philistines because the
Philistine rulers consulted and
sent David away, saying, “It will cost us our heads if he defects to his master Saul.”)
And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us:
And he said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if this is of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the land of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites in their cities and pasturelands, so that they may join us.
Now
Hiram king of Tyre
sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
Now
Hiram king of Tyre
sent envoys to David, along with
cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him.
He
sent Hadoram his son to king David, to
enquire of his
welfare, and to
congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and
smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
he
sent his son Hadoram to
greet King David and
bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze,
And David said, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David
sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of
Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David
sent messengers to
console Hanun concerning his father. But when David’s servants arrived in the land of the
Ammonites to
console him,
But the princes of the children of
Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath
sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to
spy out the land?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun, “Just because David has
sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Have not his servants come to you to
explore the land,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and
shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and
sent them away.
So Hanun took David’s servants,
shaved their beards, cut off their garments at the hips, and
sent them away.
Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he
sent to meet them: for the men were greatly
ashamed. And the king said,
Tarry at
Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
When someone came and told David about his men, he
sent messengers to meet them, since the men had been thoroughly
humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in
Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then return.”
And when the children of
Ammon saw that they had made themselves
odious to David, Hanun and the children of
Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to
hire them
chariots and
horsemen out of
Mesopotamia, and out of Syria-maachah, and out of Zobah.
And when David heard of it, he
sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
On hearing this, David
sent Joab and the entire army of mighty men.
And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers to bring more Arameans from beyond the Euphrates, with Shophach the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that
sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the LORD—days of plague upon the land, with the angel of the LORD
ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who
sent me.”
So the LORD
sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.
And God
sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD
beheld, and he
repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then God
sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem, but as the angel was doing so, the LORD saw it and relented from the
calamity, and He said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD was standing by the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And Solomon
sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou
didst deal with David my father, and
didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
Then Solomon
sent word to
Hiram king of Tyre: “Do for me as you did for my father David when you
sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
Send me now therefore a man
cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and
crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the
cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
Send me, therefore, a
craftsman skilled in engraving to work with gold and silver, with bronze and iron, and with purple,
crimson, and blue yarn. He will work with my
craftsmen in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided.
Send me also
cedar trees,
fir trees, and
algum trees, out of
Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in
Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
Send me also
cedar,
cypress, and
algum logs from
Lebanon, for I know that your servants have skill to cut timber there. And indeed, my servants will work with yours
Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.
Then
Hiram king of Tyre wrote a letter in reply to Solomon: “Because the LORD loves His people, He has set you over them as king.”
And now I have
sent a
cunning man,
endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s,
So now I am sending you Huram-abi, a skillful man endowed with creativity.
Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:
Now let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, olive oil, and wine he promised.
Then hear thou from heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and
send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You
send rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;
When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You in the direction of the city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name,
Yet if they
bethink themselves in the land
whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have done
amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
and when they come to their
senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
And on the three and
twentieth day of the seventh month he
sent the people away into their tents,
glad and
merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.
On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon
sent the people away to their homes, joyful and
glad of heart for the good things that the LORD had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.
If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to
devour the land, or if I
send pestilence among my people;
If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the
locust to
devour the land, or if I
send a plague among My people,
And Huram
sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they went with the servants of Solomon to
Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.
So
Hiram sent him ships captained by his servants, along with crews of experienced sailors. They went with Solomon’s servants to
Ophir and acquired from there 450 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.
And they
sent and called him. So
Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to
Rehoboam, saying,
And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we
send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
Then king
Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
Now
Jeroboam had
sent troops around to
ambush from the rear, so that while he was in front of Judah, the
ambush was behind them.
Then
Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king’s house, and
sent to Ben-
hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
So
Asa withdrew the silver and gold from the
treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he
sent it with this message to Ben-
hadad king of
Aram, who was ruling in Damascus:
There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have
sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with
Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
“Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. See, I have
sent you silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with
Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.”
Also in the third year of his reign he
sent to his princes, even to Ben-
hail, and to
Obadiah, and to
Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
And with them he
sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and
Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and
Tob-adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah,
Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and
Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and
whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said,
Slay her not in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada the priest
sent out the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, saying, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to the sword
anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said, “She must not be put to death in the house of the LORD.”
Yet he
sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they
testified against them: but they would not give ear.
Nevertheless, the LORD
sent prophets to bring the people back to Him and to
testify against them; but they would not
listen.
And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and
sent all the
spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.
In the spring, the army of
Aram went to war against
Joash. They entered Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the leaders of the people, and they
sent all the
plunder to their king in Damascus.
Then
Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly
kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.
So
Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and
sent them home. And they were
furious with Judah and returned home in great anger.
But the soldiers of the army which
Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and
smote three thousand of them, and took much
spoil.
Meanwhile the troops that
Amaziah had dismissed from battle
raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon. They struck down 3,000 people and carried off a great deal of
plunder.
Wherefore the anger of the LORD was
kindled against
Amaziah, and he
sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
Therefore the anger of the LORD burned against
Amaziah, and He
sent him a prophet, who said, “Why have you sought this people’s gods, which could not deliver them from your hand?”
Then
Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and
sent to
Joash, the son of
Jehoahaz, the son of
Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.
Then
Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and
sent word to the king of Israel Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz, the son of
Jehu. “Come, let us meet face to face,” he said.
Now after the time that
Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a
conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to
Lachish: but they
sent to
Lachish after him, and
slew him there.
From the time that
Amaziah turned from following the LORD, a
conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to
Lachish. But men were
sent after him to
Lachish, and they killed him there.
At that time did king
Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
At that time King
Ahaz sent for help from the king of Assyria.
And
Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and
Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel.
Then
Hezekiah sent word throughout all Israel and Judah, and he also wrote letters to Ephraim and
Manasseh inviting them to come to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel.
After these things, and the establishment thereof,
Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and
encamped against the
fenced cities, and thought to
win them for himself.
After all these acts of faithfulness,
Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah. He laid siege to the fortified cities, intending to
conquer them for himself.
And when
Hezekiah saw that
Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
After this did
Sennacherib king of Assyria
send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against
Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto
Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
Later, as
Sennacherib king of Assyria and all his forces besieged
Lachish, he
sent his servants to Jerusalem with a message for King
Hezekiah of Judah and all the people of Judah who were in Jerusalem:
“This is what
Sennacherib king of Assyria says: What is the basis of your confidence, that you remain in Jerusalem under siege?
And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant
Hezekiah.
And the servants of
Sennacherib spoke further against the LORD God and against His servant
Hezekiah.
And the LORD
sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD
sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
Thus the LORD saved
Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of
Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.
So the LORD saved
Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hands of King
Sennacherib of Assyria and all the others, and He gave them rest on every side.
Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who
sent unto him to
enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
And so when ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon were
sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone to test him, that He might know all that was in
