These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that
whosoever killeth any person at unawares might
flee thither, and not die by the hand of the
avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
These are the cities appointed for all the Israelites and foreigners among them, so that
anyone who kills a person
unintentionally may
flee there and not die by the hand of the
avenger of blood prior to standing
trial before the assembly.
Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto
Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of
Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the
tribes of the children of Israel;
Now the family heads of the Levites approached
Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of
Nun, and the heads of the other
tribes of Israel
And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the
tribe of Judah, and out of the
tribe of
Simeon, and out of the
tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.
The first lot came out for the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received thirteen cities by lot from the
tribes of Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.
And the rest of the children of
Kohath had by lot out of the families of the
tribe of Ephraim, and out of the
tribe of

tribe of
Manasseh, ten cities.
The remaining descendants of
Kohath received ten cities by lot from the
tribes of Ephraim,
Dan, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh.
And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the
tribe of

Bashan, thirteen cities.
The children of Merari by their families had out of the
tribe of
Reuben, and out of the
tribe of
Gad, and out of the
tribe of
Zebulun, twelve cities.
And the descendants of Merari received twelve cities from the
tribes of
Reuben,
Gad, and
Zebulun.
And they gave out of the
tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the
tribe of the children of
Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name,
From the
tribes of Judah and
Simeon, they designated these cities by name
And
Ain with her suburbs, and Juttah with her suburbs, and Beth-shemesh with her suburbs; nine cities out of those two
tribes.
Ain, Juttah, and Beth-shemesh—nine cities from these two
tribes, together with their pasturelands.
And out of the
tribe of Benjamin,
Gibeon with her suburbs, Geba with her suburbs,
And from the
tribe of Benjamin they gave them
Gibeon, Geba,
And the families of the children of
Kohath, the Levites which remained of the children of
Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the
tribe of Ephraim.
The remaining Kohathite clans of the Levites were
allotted these cities:
For they gave them
Shechem with her suburbs in mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and
Gezer with her suburbs,
From the
tribe of Ephraim they were given
Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim (a city of refuge for the
manslayer),
Gezer,
And out of the
tribe of
Dan, Eltekeh with her suburbs, Gibbethon with her suburbs,
From the
tribe of
Dan they were given Elteke, Gibbethon,
And out of the half
tribe of
Manasseh, Tanach with her suburbs, and
Gath-
rimmon with her suburbs; two cities.
And from the half-
tribe of
Manasseh they were given Taanach and
Gath-
rimmon—two cities, together with their pasturelands.
And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half
tribe of
Manasseh they gave Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and Beesh-terah with her suburbs; two cities.
This is what the
Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: From the half-
tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan, a city of refuge for the
manslayer, and Beeshterah—two cities, together with their pasturelands.
And out of the
tribe of
Issachar,
Kishon with her suburbs, Dabareh with her suburbs,
From the
tribe of
Issachar they were given Kishion, Daberath,
And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with her suburbs, Abdon with her suburbs,
From the tribe of Asher they were given Mishal, Abdon,
And out of the
tribe of
Naphtali, Kedesh in
Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and Hammoth-
dor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities.

tribe of
Naphtali they were given Kedesh in
Galilee (a city of refuge for the
manslayer), Hammoth-
dor, and Kartan—three cities, together with their pasturelands.
And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the
tribe of
Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,
This is what the Merarite clan (the rest of the Levites) were given:
Dimnah with her suburbs, Nahalal with her suburbs; four cities.
From the
tribe of
Zebulun they were given Jokneam, Kartah, Dimnah, and Nahalal—four cities, together with their pasturelands.
And out of the
tribe of
Reuben,
Bezer with her suburbs, and Jahazah with her suburbs,
Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half
tribe of
Manasseh,
Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh Now to the one half of the
tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given possession in
Bashan: but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,
(To the half-
tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given land in
Bashan, and to the other half Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan among their brothers.) When Joshua sent them to their homes he blessed them,
And the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half
tribe of
Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of
Shiloh, which is in the land of
Canaan, to go unto the country of
Gilead, to the land of their possession,
whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh left the Israelites at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan to return to their own land of
Gilead, which they had acquired according to the command of the LORD through Moses.
And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of
Canaan, the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half
tribe of
Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to.
And when they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of
Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.
And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half
tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of
Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.
Then the Israelites received the report: “Behold, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar on the border of the land of
Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the
Israelite side.”
And with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was an head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.
With him they sent ten chiefs—one family leader from each tribe of Israel, each the head of a family among the clans of Israel.
And they came unto the children of
Reuben, and to the children of
Gad, and to the half
tribe of
Manasseh, unto the land of
Gilead, and they spake with them, saying,
They went to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh in the land of
Gilead and said to them,
Then the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half
tribe of
Manasseh answered, and said unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,
Then the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-
tribe of
Manasseh answered the leaders of the clans of Israel:
Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward.
See, I have
allotted as an inheritance to your
tribes these remaining nations, including all the nations I have already cut off, from the Jordan westward to the Great Sea.
And Joshua gathered all the
tribes of Israel to
Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
Then Joshua assembled all the
tribes of Israel at
Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.
And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the
Canaanites to
tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
When Israel became stronger, they pressed the
Canaanites into forced labor, but they never drove them out completely.
Neither did
Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the
Canaanites dwelt among them, and became
tributaries.
Zebulun failed to drive out the inhabitants of Kitron and Nahalol; so the
Canaanites lived among them and served as forced laborers.
Neither did
Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the
Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became
tributaries unto them.
Naphtali failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath. So the Naphtalites also lived among the
Canaanite inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath served them as forced laborers.
But the
Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in
Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became
tributaries.
And the
Amorites were determined to dwell in Mount Heres,
Aijalon, and Shaalbim. But when the house of Joseph grew in strength, they pressed the
Amorites into forced labor.
But when the children of Israel
cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of
Gera, a
Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto
Eglon the king of Moab.
And again they
cried out to the LORD, and He raised up Ehud son of
Gera, a left-handed
Benjamite, as their deliverer. So they sent him with
tribute to
Eglon king of Moab.
And he brought the present unto
Eglon king of Moab: and
Eglon was a very fat man.
and brought the
tribute to
Eglon king of Moab, who was an
obese man.
And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.
After Ehud had finished presenting the
tribute, he
ushered out those who had carried it.
And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.
So
Gideon told the men of Penuel, “When I return in
triumph, I will
tear down this tower!”
Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your
tribulation.
Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you in your time of trouble.”
Then it shall be, that
whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of
Ammon, shall surely be the LORD’S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.
then whatever comes out the door of my house to
greet me on my
triumphant return from the
Ammonites will belong to the LORD, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.”
In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.
In those days there was no king in Israel, and the tribe of the Danites was looking for territory to occupy. For up to that time they had not come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?
“Be quiet,” they told him. “Put your hand over your mouth and come with us and be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be a priest for the house of one person or a priest for a tribe and family in Israel?”
And the children of
Dan set up the
graven image: and
Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of
Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the
tribe of
Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
The Danites set up idols for themselves, and
Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the
tribe of
Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
And the chief of all the people, even of all the
tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand
footmen that drew sword.
The leaders of all the people and all the tribes of Israel presented themselves in the assembly of God’s people: 400,000 men on foot, armed with swords.
And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the
tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to
fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the
tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to supply provisions for the army when they go to Gibeah in Benjamin to
punish them for the
atrocity they have committed in Israel.”
And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?
And the tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?
And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?
“Why, O LORD God of Israel,” they
cried out, “has this happened in Israel?
Today in Israel one
tribe is missing!”
And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.
The Israelites asked, “Who among all the
tribes of Israel did not come to the assembly before the LORD?” For they had taken a solemn oath that
anyone who failed to come up before the LORD at
Mizpah would surely be put to death.
And the children of Israel
repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one
tribe cut off from Israel this day.
And the Israelites
grieved for their brothers, the Benjamites, and said, “
Today a
tribe is cut off from Israel.
And they said, What one is there of the
tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from
Jabesh-
gilead to the assembly.
So they asked, “Which one of the
tribes of Israel failed to come up before the LORD at
Mizpah?” And, in fact, no one from
Jabesh-
gilead had come to the camp for the assembly.
And the people
repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the
tribes of Israel.
The people
grieved for Benjamin, because the LORD had made a void in the
tribes of Israel.
And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.
They added, “There must be heirs for the survivors of Benjamin, so that a
tribe of Israel will not be
wiped out.
And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.
And at that time, each of the Israelites returned from there to his own tribe and clan, each to his own inheritance.
And did I choose him out of all the
tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an
ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
And out of all the
tribes of Israel I selected your father to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an
ephod in My presence. I also gave to the house of your father all the offerings of the Israelites made by fire.
And Saul answered and said, Am not I a
Benjamite, of the smallest of the
tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the
tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
Saul replied, “Am I not a
Benjamite from the smallest
tribe of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of Benjamin? So why would you say such a thing to me?”
And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your
adversities and your
tribulations; and ye have said unto him,
Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present
yourselves before the LORD by your
tribes, and by your thousands.
But
today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and afflictions, and you have said to Him, ‘No, set a king over us.’ Now therefore present
yourselves before the LORD by your
tribes and clans.”
And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
Thus Samuel had all the tribes of Israel come forward, and the tribe of Benjamin was selected.
When he had caused the
tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of
Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.
Then he had the
tribe of Benjamin come forward by its clans, and the clan of Matri was selected. Finally, Saul son of
Kish was selected. But when they looked for him, they could not find him.
And Samuel said, When thou
wast little in thine own sight,
wast thou not made the head of the
tribes of Israel, and the LORD
anointed thee king over Israel?
And Samuel said, “Although you were once small in your own eyes, have you not become the head of the
tribes of Israel? The LORD
anointed you king over Israel
And David
girded his sword upon his armour, and he
assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
David
strapped his sword over the
tunic and
tried to walk, but he was not accustomed to them. “I cannot walk in these,” David said to Saul. “I am not accustomed to them.” So David took them off.
And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
But when Saul’s servants relayed these words to David, he replied, “Does it seem
trivial in your sight to be the son-in-law of the king? I am a poor man and lightly esteemed.”
And Saul sought to
smite David even to the wall with the
javelin; but he
slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he
smote the
javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.
Saul
tried to pin him to the wall with his
spear. But the
spear struck the wall and David
eluded him, ran away, and escaped that night.
And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they
prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they
prophesied also.
When this was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they began to
prophesy as well. So Saul
tried again and sent messengers a third time, and even they began to
prophesy.
And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all
tribulation.
As surely as I valued your life
today, so may the LORD value my life and
rescue me from all trouble.”
And Saul’s son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of
Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin:
Saul’s son had two men who were leaders of
raiding parties. One was named Baanah and the other Rechab; they were sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite of the
tribe of Benjamin—Beeroth is considered part of Benjamin,
Then came all the
tribes of Israel to David unto
Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
Then all the
tribes of Israel came to David at
Hebron and said, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood.
In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the
tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of
cedar?
In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to
shepherd My people Israel, ‘Why
haven’t you built Me a house of
cedar?’
And he
smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.
David also defeated the Moabites, made them lie down on the ground, and measured them off with a cord. He measured off with two lengths those to be put to death, and with one length those to be
spared. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him
tribute.
Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him
tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And
Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then
Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the
tribes of Israel.
He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate. Whenever
anyone had a
grievance to bring before the king for a decision,
Absalom would call out and ask, “What city are you from?” And if he replied, “Your servant is from one of the
tribes of Israel,”
Then
Absalom sent
spies throughout the
tribes of Israel with this message: “When you hear the sound of the horn, you are to say, ‘
Absalom reigns in
Hebron!’”
And all the people were at
strife throughout all the
tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for
Absalom.
And all the people throughout the
tribes of Israel were
arguing, “The king
rescued us from the hand of our enemies and delivered us from the hand of the Philistines, but now he has fled the land because of
Absalom.
And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor
trimmed his
beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
Then Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, went down to meet the king. He had not cared for his feet or
trimmed his
mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king had left until the day he returned safely.
And he went through all the
tribes of Israel unto
Abel, and to Beth-maachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
Sheba passed through all the
tribes of Israel to
Abel-beth-
maacah and through the entire region of the Berites, who gathered together and followed him.
And Adoram was over the
tribute: and
Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder:
Adoram was in charge of the forced labor;
Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is
tried: he is a
buckler to all them that trust in him.
As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is
flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
For the king said to
Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the
tribes of Israel, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.
So the king said to
Joab the commander of his army, who was with him, “Go now throughout the
tribes of Israel from
Dan to
Beersheba and register the troops, so that I may know their number.”
And Ahishar was over the household: and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the tribute.
Ahishar was in charge of the palace; and Adoniram son of Abda was in charge of the forced labor.
And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And he built the inner court with three rows of
hewed stone, and a row of
cedar beams.
All these were of costly stones, according to the measures of
hewed stones, sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation unto the
coping, and so on the outside toward the great court.
All these buildings were constructed with costly stones, cut to size and
trimmed with saws inside and out from the foundation to the
eaves, and from the outside to the great
courtyard.
And the great court round about was with three rows of
hewed stones, and a row of
cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the
porch of the house.
He was a widow’s son of the
tribe of
Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and
cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.
He was the son of a widow from the
tribe of
Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a
craftsman in bronze. Huram had great skill, understanding, and knowledge for every kind of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and carried out all his work.
And the
bowls, and the
snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple.
the pure gold basins,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, ladles, and censers; and the gold hinges for the doors of the inner temple (that is, the Most Holy Place) as well as for the doors of the main hall of the temple.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the
tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled before him in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.
‘Since the day I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there. But I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon
levy a
tribute of
bondservice unto this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to
devote to destruction—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armour, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
Year after year, each
visitor would bring his
tribute: articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
Howbeit I will not
rend away all the kingdom; but will give one
tribe to thy son for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.
Yet I will not
tear the whole kingdom away from him. I will give one
tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”
And he said to
Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will
rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten
tribes to thee:
and said to
Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for
yourself, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will
tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and I will give you ten
tribes.
(But he shall have one tribe for my servant David’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:)
But one tribe will remain for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.
But I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes.
But I will take ten tribes of the kingdom from the hand of his son and give them to you.
And unto his son will I give one
tribe, that David my servant may have a light
alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.
I will give one tribe to his son, so that My servant David will always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put My Name.
Then king
Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the
tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.

Rehoboam sent out Adoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his

When all Israel heard that
Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. Only the

And when
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the whole house of Judah and the
tribe of Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against the house of Israel and restore the kingdom to
Rehoboam son of Solomon.
And
Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah.
Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the
tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
