So he
went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and
drank water.
but the man of God
went back with him,
ate bread in his house, and
drank water.
But camest back, and hast eaten bread and
drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy
carcase shall not come unto the
sepulchre of thy fathers.
but you
went back and
ate bread and
drank water in the place where He told you not to do so, your body shall never reach the tomb of your fathers.’”
And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and
slew him: and his
carcase was cast in the way, and the
ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the
carcase.
As he
went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body was left lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it.
And, behold, men passed by, and saw the
carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the
carcase: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
And there were men passing by who saw the body lying in the road with the lion standing beside it, and they went and reported this in the city where the old prophet lived.
and he
went and found the body lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had not eaten the body or
mauled the
donkey.
And
Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and
went to
Shiloh, and came to the house of
Ahijah. But
Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.
And it was so, when the king went into the house of the LORD, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would bear the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
And
Baasha king of Israel
went up against Judah, and built
Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go out or come in to
Asa king of Judah.
Baasha king of Israel
went to war against Judah and fortified
Ramah to prevent
anyone from leaving or entering the territory of
Asa king of Judah.
And Zimri
went in and
smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of
Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his
stead.
So in the twenty-seventh year of
Asa’s reign over Judah, Zimri
went in, struck Elah down, and killed him. And Zimri reigned in his place.
And Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.
Then Omri and all the Israelites marched up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.
And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king’s house, and burnt the king’s house over him with fire, and died,
When Zimri saw that the city was captured, he entered the citadel of the royal palace and burned it down upon himself. So he died
And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife
Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and
went and served
Baal, and worshipped him.
And as if it were not enough for him to walk in the sins of
Jeroboam son of Nebat, he even married
Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and he then proceeded to serve and worship
Baal.
So he
went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he
went and dwelt by the
brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
So
Elijah did what the LORD had told him, and he
went and lived by the
Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.
So he arose and
went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said,
Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
So
Elijah got up and
went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.
Elijah called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, so that I may drink.”
And she
went and did according to the saying of
Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
So she
went and did according to the word of
Elijah, and there was food every day for
Elijah and the woman and her household.
So
Elijah went to present himself to
Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria,
So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it:
Ahab went one way by himself, and
Obadiah went another way by himself.
So they divided the land to
explore.
Ahab went one way by himself, and
Obadiah went the other way by himself.
And as
Obadiah was in the way, behold,
Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord
Elijah?
Now as
Obadiah went on his way,
Elijah suddenly met him. When
Obadiah recognized him, he fell facedown and said, “Is it you, my lord
Elijah?”
So
Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And
Elijah went up to the top of
Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
So
Ahab went up to eat and drink. But
Elijah climbed to the summit of
Carmel, bent down on the ground, and put his face between his knees.
And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
“Go and look toward the sea,” he said to his servant. So the servant
went and looked, and he said, “There is nothing there.” Seven times
Elijah said, “Go back.”
And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And
Ahab rode, and
went to
Jezreel.
Meanwhile, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and a heavy rain began to fall. So
Ahab rode away and
went to
Jezreel.
And when he saw that, he arose, and
went for his life, and came to Beer-
sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
And
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to
Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there,
But he himself
went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a
juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
while he himself traveled on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a
broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and
went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto
Horeb the mount of God.
So he got up and
ate and
drank. And strengthened by that food, he walked forty days and forty nights until he reached
Horeb, the mountain of God.
And it was so, when
Elijah heard it, that he
wrapped his face in his
mantle, and
went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here,
Elijah?
When
Elijah heard it, he
wrapped his face in his
cloak and
went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here,
Elijah?”
And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and
slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and
went after
Elijah, and ministered unto him.
So
Elisha turned back from him, took his pair of oxen, and slaughtered them. With the oxen’s
equipment, he
cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they
ate. Then he set out to follow and serve
Elijah.
And Ben-
hadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and
chariots: and he
went up and besieged Samaria, and
warred against it.
Now Ben-
hadad king of
Aram assembled his entire army. Accompanied by thirty-two kings with their horses and
chariots, he marched up, besieged Samaria, and
waged war against it.
And they
went out at
noon. But Ben-
hadad was drinking himself
drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
They marched out at
noon while Ben-
hadad and the 32 kings allied with him were in their tents getting
drunk.
And the young men of the princes of the provinces
went out first; and Ben-
hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
And the young officers of the district governors marched out first. Now Ben-
hadad had sent out scouts, who reported to him, “Men are marching out of Samaria.”
And the king of Israel
went out, and
smote the horses and
chariots, and
slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
Then the king of Israel marched out and attacked the horses and
chariots,
inflicting a great slaughter on the Arameans.
And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-
hadad numbered the Syrians, and
went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
In the spring, Ben-
hadad mobilized the Arameans and
went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.
And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
The Israelites also
mobilized, gathered supplies, and marched out to meet them. The Israelites camped before them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the
countryside.
So they
girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-
hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
So with
sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they
went to the king of Israel and said, “Your servant Ben-
hadad says, ‘Please
spare my life.’” And the king answered, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”
So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and
disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
and the prophet
went and waited on the road for the king,
disguising himself with a
bandage over his eyes.
And as the king passed by, he
cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant
went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
As the king passed by, he
cried out to the king: “Your servant had marched out into the middle of the battle, when suddenly a man came over with a
captive and told me, ‘Guard this man! If he goes missing for any reason, your life will be exchanged for his life, or you will
weigh out a talent of silver.’
And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
Sullen and
angry, the king of Israel
went home to Samaria.
And
Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which
Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
So
Ahab went to his palace,
sullen and
angry because
Naboth the Jezreelite had told him, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He lay down on his bed, turned his face away, and refused to eat.
And it came to pass, when
Ahab heard that
Naboth was dead, that
Ahab rose up to go down to the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.
And when
Ahab heard that
Naboth was dead, he got up and
went down to take possession of the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite.
And it came to pass, when
Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put
sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in
sackcloth, and
went softly.
And it came to pass in the third year, that
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
However, in the third year,
Jehoshaphat king of Judah
went down to visit the king of Israel,
But
Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah
went near, and
smote Micaiah on the
cheek, and said, Which way
went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
Then
Zedekiah son of Chenaanah
went up, struck Micaiah in the face, and demanded, “Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go when He departed from me to speak with you?”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, I will
disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel
disguised himself, and
went into the battle.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “I will
disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel
disguised himself and
went into battle.
And there
went a
proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
As the sun was setting, the cry
rang out in the army: “Every man to his own city, and every man to his own land!”
Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to
Ophir for gold: but they
went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-
geber.
Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.
Then King
Ahaziah sent to
Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. So the captain
went up to
Elijah, who was sitting on top of a hill, and said to him, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down!’”
And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty
went up, and came and fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. And the third captain
went up, fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
begged him, “Man of God, may my life and the lives of these fifty servants please be precious in your sight.
And the angel of the LORD said unto
Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and
went down with him unto the king.
Then the angel of the LORD said to
Elijah, “Go down with him. Do not be afraid of him.” So
Elijah got up and
went down with him to the king.
And
Elijah said unto
Elisha,
Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to
Bethel. And
Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they
went down to
Bethel.
and
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to
Bethel.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they
went down to
Bethel.
And
Elijah said unto him,
Elisha,
tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to
Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to
Jericho.
And
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to
Jericho.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they
went to
Jericho.
And
Elijah said unto him,
Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two
went on.
And
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them
went on.
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets
went, and stood to view
afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
Then a company of fifty of the sons of the prophets
went and stood at a distance, facing
Elijah and
Elisha as the two of them stood by the Jordan.
And
Elijah took his
mantle, and
wrapped it together, and
smote the waters, and they were divided
hither and thither, so that they two
went over on dry ground.
And
Elijah took his
cloak, rolled it up, and struck the waters, which parted to the right and to the left, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
And it came to pass, as they still
went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a
chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both
asunder; and
Elijah went up by a
whirlwind into heaven.
As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a
chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and
Elijah went up into heaven in a
whirlwind.
He took up also the
mantle of
Elijah that fell from him, and
went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
And he took the
mantle of
Elijah that fell from him, and
smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of
Elijah? and when he also had
smitten the waters, they parted
hither and thither: and
Elisha went over.
Then he took the
cloak of
Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters. “Where now is the LORD, the God of
Elijah?” he asked. And when he had struck the waters, they parted to the right and to the left, and
Elisha crossed over.
And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at
Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of
Elijah doth rest on
Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
When the sons of the prophets who were facing him from
Jericho saw what had happened, they said, “The spirit of
Elijah rests on
Elisha.” And they
went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.
And he
went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have
healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
and
Elisha went out to the spring, cast the salt into it, and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have
healed this water. No longer will it cause death or unfruitfulness.’”
And he
went up from thence unto
Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and
mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou
bald head; go up, thou
bald head.
And he
went from thence to mount
Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
And
Elisha went on to Mount
Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.
So at that time King Jehoram set out from Samaria and
mobilized all Israel.
And he
went and sent to
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me:
wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
And he sent a message to
Jehoshaphat king of Judah: “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” “I will go,” replied
Jehoshaphat. “I am like you, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
So the king of Israel
went, and the king of Judah, and the king of
Edom: and they
fetched a compass of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.
So the king of Israel, the king of Judah, and the king of
Edom set out, and after they had traveled a
roundabout route for seven days, they had no water for their army or for their animals.
And
Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat and the king of
Edom went down to him.
And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and
smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they
went forward
smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and attacked them, and they fled before them. So the Israelites invaded their land and struck down the Moabites.
And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof;
howbeit the slingers
went about it, and
smote it.
They destroyed the cities, and each man threw stones on every good field until it was covered. They stopped up every spring and cut down every good tree. Only Kir-haraseth was left with stones in place, but men with
slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.
So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
So she left him, and after she had shut the door behind her and her sons, they kept bringing jars to her, and she kept pouring.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt. Then you and your sons can live on the remainder.”
And it fell on a day, that
Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she
constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as
oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
One day
Elisha went to Shunem, and a prominent woman who lived there persuaded him to have a meal. So whenever he would pass by, he would stop there to eat.
And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.
One day
Elisha came to visit and
went to his upper room to lie down.
And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.
And the child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the harvesters.
And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.
And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God. Then she shut the door and went out.
So she
went and came unto the man of God to mount
Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her
afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold,
yonder is that Shunammite:
So she set out and
went to the man of God at Mount
Carmel. When the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, there is the Shunammite woman.
And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he
went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not
awaked.
Gehazi
went on
ahead of them and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or
response. So he
went back to meet
Elisha and told him, “The boy has not
awakened.”
He
went in therefore, and shut the door upon them
twain, and prayed unto the LORD.
So he went in, closed the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
Then
Elisha got on the bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eye to eye, and hand to hand. As he stretched himself out over him, the boy’s body became warm.
Then he returned, and walked in the house to and
fro; and
went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child
sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
Elisha turned away and
paced back and forth across the room. Then he got on the bed and stretched himself out over the boy again, and the boy
sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
She came in, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground. Then she
picked up her son and
went out.
And one
went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his
lap full, and came and
shred them into the pot of
pottage: for they knew them not.
One of them
went out to the field to gather herbs, and he found a wild vine from which he gathered as many wild gourds as his garment could hold. Then he came back and cut them up into the pot of
stew, though no one knew what they were.
And one
went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the
maid that is of the land of Israel.
And
Naaman went and told his master what the
girl from the land of Israel had said.
But
Naaman was
wroth, and
went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the
leper.
But
Naaman went away
angry, saying, “I thought that he would surely come out, stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the spot to cure my
leprosy.
Are not
Abana and
Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and
went away in a
rage.
Are not the Abanah and
Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not have washed in them and been
cleansed?” So he turned and
went away in a
rage.
Then
went he down, and
dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
So
Naaman went down and
dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored and became like that of a little child, and he was clean.
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
Then
Naaman and all his attendants
went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, “Now I know for sure that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
But he
went in, and stood before his master. And
Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant
went no
whither.
When Gehazi
went in and stood before his master,
Elisha asked him, “Gehazi, where have you been?” “Your servant did not go
anywhere,” he replied.
And he said unto him,
Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his
chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?
But
Elisha questioned him, “Did not my spirit go with you when the man got down from his
chariot to meet you? Is this the time to accept money and clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants and maidservants?
The
leprosy therefore of
Naaman shall
cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he
went out from his presence a
leper as white as snow.
So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
So
Elisha went with them, and when they came to the Jordan, they began to cut down some trees.
Therefore sent he thither horses, and
chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
the king of
Aram sent horses,
chariots, and a great army. They
went there by night and surrounded the city.
And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and
chariots. And his servant said unto him,
Alas, my master! how shall we do?
When the servant of the man of God got up and
went out early in the morning, an army with horses and
chariots had surrounded the city. So he asked
Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?”
And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and
drunk, he sent them away, and they
went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
So the king prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they returned to their master. And the
Aramean raiders did not come into the land of Israel again.
And it came to pass after this, that Ben-
hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and
went up, and besieged Samaria.
Some time later, Ben-
hadad king of
Aram assembled his entire army and marched up to
besiege Samaria.
And they rose up in the
twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the
uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.
So they arose at
twilight and
went to the camp of the Arameans. But when they came to the outskirts of the camp, there was not a man to be found.
And when these lepers came to the
uttermost part of the camp, they
went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and
raiment, and
went and
hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and
went and
hid it.
When the lepers reached the edge of the camp, they
went into a tent to eat and drink. Then they carried off the silver, gold, and clothing, and
went and
hid them. On returning, they entered another tent, carried off some items from there, and
hid them.
So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses
tied, and
asses tied, and the tents as they were.
So they
went and called out to the gatekeepers of the city, saying, “We
went to the
Aramean camp and no one was there—not a trace—only
tethered horses and
donkeys, and the tents were
intact.”
And they
went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their
haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.
And they
tracked them as far as the Jordan, and indeed, the whole way was
littered with the clothing and
equipment the Arameans had thrown off in
haste. So the scouts returned and told the king.
And the people
went out, and
spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
Then the people
went out and
plundered the camp of the Arameans. It was then that a
seah of fine flour sold for a
shekel, and two seahs of barley sold for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she
went with her household, and
sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
So the woman had proceeded to do as the man of God had
instructed. And she and her household lived as foreigners for seven years in the land of the Philistines.
