Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
For six days you may gather, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, it will not be there.”
And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.
Yet on the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they did not find anything.
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in
Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
Then the whole congregation of Israel left the Desert of Sin, moving from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at
Rephidim,
but there was no water for the people to drink.
And the people
thirsted there for water; and the people
murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with
thirst?
But the people
thirsted for water there, and they grumbled against Moses: “Why have you brought us out of Egypt—to make us and our children and
livestock die of
thirst?”
And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
As long as Moses held up his hands, Israel prevailed; but when he lowered them, Amalek prevailed.
But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat
thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
When Moses’ hands grew heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held his hands up, one on each side, so that his hands remained steady until the sun went down.
And Moses’ father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
But Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “What you are doing is not good.
And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee,
but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for
thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.
Have these men judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you any major issue,
but all minor cases they can judge on their own, so that your load may be
lightened as they share it with you.
And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
And they judged the people at all times; they would bring the difficult cases to Moses, but any minor issue they would judge themselves.
There shall not an hand touch it,
but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the
trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.
No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows—whether man or beast, he must not live.’ Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast may they approach the mountain.”
And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount
Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and
sanctify it.
But Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up Mount
Sinai, for You solemnly
warned us, ‘Put a boundary around the mountain and set it apart as holy.’”
And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.
And the LORD replied, “Go down and bring Aaron with you. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break out against them.”
And
shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy
manservant, nor thy
maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your
manservant or
maidservant or
livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates.
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and
hallowed it.
For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day He rested. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
“Speak to us
yourself and we will
listen,” they said to Moses. “
But do not let God speak to us, or we will die.”
If thou
buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
If you
buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years.
But in the seventh year, he shall go free without paying anything.
And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children; I do not want to go free,’
And if a man lie not in wait,
but God deliver him into his hand; then I will
appoint thee a place
whither he shall
flee.
If, however, he did not lie in wait,
but God allowed it to happen, then I will
appoint for you a place where he may
flee.
But if a man come
presumptuously upon his neighbour, to
slay him with
guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
But if a man schemes and acts
willfully against his
neighbor to kill him, you must take him away from My altar to be put to death.
And if men
strive together, and one
smite another with a stone, or with his
fist, and he die not,
but keepeth his bed:
If men are quarreling and one strikes the other with a stone or a
fist, and he does not die
but is confined to bed,
If men
strive, and
hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
If men who are fighting strike a
pregnant woman and her child is born
prematurely,
but there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband demands and as the court allows.
And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
But if a serious injury results, then you must require a life for a life—
If an ox
gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten;
but the owner of the ox shall be
quit.
If an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox must surely be stoned, and its meat must not be eaten. But the owner of the ox shall not be held responsible.
But if the ox were
wont to
push with his horn in time past, and it hath been
testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in,
but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.
But if the ox has a habit of
goring, and its owner has been
warned yet does not restrain it, and it kills a man or woman, then the ox must be stoned and its owner must also be put to death.
Or if it be known that the ox hath used to
push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.
But if it was known that the ox had a habit of
goring, yet its owner failed to restrain it, he shall pay full compensation, ox for ox, and the dead animal will be his.
If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full
restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his
theft.
If a man deliver unto his neighbour an
ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be
hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:
If a man gives a
donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any other animal to be cared for by his
neighbor,
but it dies or is injured or
stolen while no one is watching,
But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an
hired thing, it came for his
hire.
If the owner was present, no
restitution is required. If the animal was rented, the fee covers the loss.
Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his
dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.
You shall do likewise with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but on the eighth day you are to give them to Me.
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy
vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie
fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the field and the wild animals may
consume what they leave. Do the same with your
vineyard and olive
grove.
Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine
ass may rest, and the son of thy
handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.
For six days you are to do your work,
but on the seventh day you must cease, so that your ox and your
donkey may rest and the son of your
maidservant may be refreshed, as well as the foreign resident.
But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an
adversary unto thine
adversaries.
But if you will
listen carefully to his voice and do everything I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a
foe to your foes.
Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.
You must not bow down to their gods or serve them or follow their practices. Instead, you are to
demolish them and
smash their sacred stones to pieces.
And Moses alone shall come near the LORD:
but they shall not come
nigh; neither shall the people go up with him.
Moses alone shall approach the LORD, but the others must not come near. And the people may not go up with him.”
And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
But God did not lay His hand on the nobles of Israel; they saw Him, and they
ate and
drank.
But the flesh of the
bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin offering.
But burn the flesh of the bull and its hide and dung outside the camp; it is a sin offering.
They must eat those things by which
atonement was made for their
ordination and
consecration.
But no outsider may eat them, because these things are sacred.
Six days may work be done;
but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD:
whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
For six days work may be done,
but the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD.
Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must surely be put to death.
It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
It is a sign between Me and the Israelites
forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth,
but on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
And Moses
besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why
doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God, saying, “O LORD, why does Your anger burn against Your people, whom You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
And he said, It is not the voice of them that
shout for
mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome:
but the noise of them that sing do I hear.
But Moses replied: “It is neither the cry of victory nor the cry of defeat; I hear the sound of singing!”
Yet now, if thou
wilt forgive their sin—; and if not,
blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
Yet now, if You would only
forgive their sin....
But if not, please
blot me out of the book that You have written.”
Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
Now go, lead the people to the place I described. Behold, My angel shall go before you.
But on the day I settle accounts, I will
punish them for their sin.”
Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I
consume thee in the way.
Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp:
but his servant Joshua, the son of
Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
Thus the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp,
but his young assistant Joshua son of
Nun would not leave the tent.
And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou
wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
Then Moses said to the LORD, “Look, You have been telling me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor in My sight.’
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
But He added, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.”
And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
Then I will take My hand away, and you will see My back; but My face must not be seen.”
But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:
Rather, you must
tear down their altars,
smash their sacred stones, and
chop down their Asherah poles.
But the
firstling of an
ass thou shalt
redeem with a lamb: and if thou
redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the
firstborn of thy sons thou shalt
redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.
Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.
Six days you shall labor,
but on the seventh day you shall rest; even in the seasons of
plowing and harvesting, you must rest.
And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
But Moses called out to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke to them.
But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the
vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
But whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with Him, he would remove the
veil until he came out. And when he came out, he would tell the Israelites what he had been commanded,
Six days shall work be done,
but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD:
whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
For six days work may be done,
but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of complete rest to the LORD.
Whoever does any work on that day must be put to death.
And the five pillars of it with their hooks: and he overlaid their chapiters and their fillets with gold: but their five sockets were of brass.
together with five posts and their hooks. He overlaid the tops of the posts and their bands with gold, and their five bases were bronze.
But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.
If the cloud was not lifted, they would not set out until the day it was taken up.
But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
The
entrails and legs must be washed with water, and the priest shall burn all of it on the altar as a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it upon the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
The
entrails and legs must be washed with water, and the priest shall bring all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
And he shall
cleave it with the wings thereof,
but shall not divide it
asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
He shall
tear it open by its wings, without dividing the bird completely. And the priest is to burn it on the altar
atop the burning wood. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
And that which is left of the meat offering shall be Aaron’s and his sons’: it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
But the remainder of the grain offering shall belong to Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the offerings made by fire to the LORD.
As for the
oblation of the firstfruits, ye shall offer them unto the LORD:
but they shall not be burnt on the altar for a sweet savour.
You may bring them to the LORD as an offering of firstfruits,
but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing
aroma.
And the skin of the
bullock, and all his flesh, with his head, and with his legs, and his inwards, and his dung,
But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, with its head and legs and its
entrails and dung—
And he shall bring them unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin offering first, and
wring off his head from his neck,
but shall not divide it
asunder:
He is to bring them to the priest, who shall first present the one for the sin offering. He is to twist its head at the front of its neck without severing it;
But if he be not able to bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he that
sinned shall bring for his offering the tenth part of an
ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any
frankincense thereon: for it is a sin offering.
But if he cannot afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons, he may bring a tenth of an
ephah of fine flour as a sin offering. He must not put olive oil or
frankincense on it, because it is a sin offering.
The clay pot in which the sin offering is boiled must be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze pot, the pot must be
scoured and
rinsed with water.
And no sin offering,
whereof any of the blood is brought into the tabernacle of the congregation to
reconcile withal in the holy place, shall be eaten: it shall be burnt in the fire.
But no sin offering may be eaten if its blood has been brought into the Tent of Meeting to make
atonement in the Holy Place; it must be burned.
But if the sacrifice of his offering be a
vow, or a voluntary offering, it shall be eaten the same day that he offereth his sacrifice: and on the
morrow also the remainder of it shall be eaten:
If, however, the sacrifice he offers is a
vow or a
freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day he presents his sacrifice,
but the remainder may be eaten on the next day.
But the remainder of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt with fire.
But any meat of the sacrifice remaining until the third day must be burned up.
But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that
pertain unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.
But if
anyone who is unclean eats meat from the peace offering that belongs to the LORD, that person must be cut off from his people.
And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is
torn with beasts, may be used in any other use:
but ye shall in no wise eat of it.
The fat of an animal found dead or
mauled by wild beasts may be used for any other purpose,
but you must not eat it.
And the priest shall burn the fat upon the altar: but the breast shall be Aaron’s and his sons’.
The priest is to burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons.
But the
bullock, and his hide, his flesh, and his dung, he burnt with fire without the camp; as the LORD commanded Moses.
But the bull with its hide, flesh, and dung he burned outside the camp, as the LORD had commanded him.
But the fat, and the
kidneys, and the
caul above the liver of the sin offering, he burnt upon the altar; as the LORD commanded Moses.
On the altar he burned the fat, the
kidneys, and the
lobe of the liver from the sin offering, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And the flesh and the hide he burnt with fire without the camp.
But he burned up the flesh and the hide outside the camp.
And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave offering before the LORD; as Moses commanded.
but he waved the breasts and the right
thigh as a wave offering before the LORD, as Moses had commanded.
Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be
sanctified in them that come
nigh me, and before all the people I will be
glorified. And Aaron held his peace.
Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD meant when He said: ‘To those who come near Me I will show My
holiness, and in the sight of all the people I will
reveal My glory.’”
But Aaron remained silent.
And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto
Eleazar and unto
Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither
rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people:
but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel,
bewail the burning which the LORD hath
kindled.
Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons
Eleazar and
Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become
disheveled and do not
tear your garments, or else you will die, and the LORD will be
angry with the whole congregation.
But your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may
mourn on account of the fire that the LORD has
ignited.
And Aaron said unto Moses, Behold, this day have they offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD; and such things have
befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering to day, should it have been accepted in the sight of the LORD?
But Aaron replied to Moses, “Behold, this very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD. Since these things have happened to me, if I had eaten the sin offering
today, would it have been acceptable in the sight of the LORD?”
Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that
chew the
cud, or of them that divide the
hoof: as the
camel, because he cheweth the
cud,
but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
But of those that only
chew the
cud or only have a divided
hoof, you are not to eat the following: The
camel, though it chews the
cud, does not have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
And the
coney, because he cheweth the
cud,
but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
The rock
badger, though it chews the
cud, does not have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
And the
hare, because he cheweth the
cud,
but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
The
rabbit, though it chews the
cud, does not have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an
abomination unto you:
But the following among all the
teeming life and creatures in the water are
detestable to you: everything in the seas or streams that does not have fins and scales.
They shall be even an
abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh,
but ye shall have their carcases in
abomination.
All other flying insects that have four legs are
detestable to you.
Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is
plenty of water, shall be clean:
but that which toucheth their
carcase shall be unclean.
Nevertheless, a spring or
cistern containing water will remain clean,
but one who touches a
carcass in it will be unclean.
But if any water be put upon the seed, and any part of their
carcase fall
thereon, it shall be unclean unto you.
but if water has been put on the seed and a
carcass falls on it, it is unclean for you.
But if she bear a
maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her
purifying threescore and six days.
If, however, she gives birth to a daughter, the woman will be unclean for two weeks as she is during her
menstruation. Then she must continue in
purification from her
bleeding for sixty-six days.
And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an
atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
But if she cannot afford a lamb, she shall bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. Then the priest will make
atonement for her, and she will be clean.’”
And the priest shall look on him again the seventh day: and, behold, if the plague be somewhat dark, and the plague spread not in the skin, the priest shall
pronounce him clean: it is
but a
scab: and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean.
The priest will examine him again on the seventh day, and if the
sore has
faded and has not spread on the skin, the priest shall
pronounce him clean; it is a
rash. The person must wash his clothes and be clean.
But if the
scab spread much abroad in the skin, after that he hath been seen of the priest for his
cleansing, he shall be seen of the priest again:
But if the
rash spreads further on his skin after he has shown himself to the priest for his
cleansing, he must present himself again to the priest.
And if a
leprosy break out abroad in the skin, and the
leprosy cover all the skin of him that hath the plague from his head even to his foot,
wheresoever the priest looketh;
But if the skin disease breaks out all over his skin so that it covers all the skin of the
infected person from head to foot, as far as the priest can see,
But when raw flesh appeareth in him, he shall be unclean.
But whenever raw flesh appears on someone, he will be unclean.
Or if the raw flesh turn again, and be changed unto white, he shall come unto the priest;
But if the raw flesh changes and turns white, he must go to the priest.
But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hairs therein, and if it be not lower than the skin, but be somewhat dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days:
But when the priest examines it, if there is no white hair in it, and it is not beneath the skin and has
faded, the priest shall
isolate him for seven days.
But if the bright spot stay in his place, and spread not, it is a burning
boil; and the priest shall
pronounce him clean.
But if the spot remains unchanged and does not spread, it is only the
scar from the
boil, and the priest shall
pronounce him clean.
But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hair in the bright spot, and it be no lower than the other skin, but be somewhat dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days:
But if the priest examines it and there is no white hair in the spot, and it is not beneath the skin
but has
faded, the priest shall
isolate him for seven days.
And if the bright spot stay in his place, and spread not in the skin,
but it be somewhat dark; it is a rising of the burning, and the priest shall
pronounce him clean: for it is an inflammation of the burning.
But if the spot is unchanged and has not spread on the skin
but has
faded, it is a swelling from the burn, and the priest is to
pronounce him clean; for it is only the
scar from the burn.
And if the priest look on the plague of the
scall, and, behold, it be not in sight deeper than the skin, and that there is no black hair in it; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague of the
scall seven days:
But if the priest examines the
scaly infection and it does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and there is no black hair in it, the priest shall
isolate the
infected person for seven days.
