And he brought his household man by man; and
Achan, the son of
Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
And he had the family of Zabdi come forward man by man, and
Achan son of
Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.
And thou shalt do to
Ai and her king as thou
didst unto
Jericho and her king: only the
spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto
yourselves: lay thee an
ambush for the city behind it.
And the king of
Ai he
hanged on a tree until
eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his
carcase down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise
thereon a great
heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day.
He hung the king of
Ai on a tree until evening, and at
sunset Joshua commanded that they take down the body from the tree and throw it down at the entrance of the city gate. And over it they raised a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day.
And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount
Gerizim, and half of them over against mount
Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should
bless the people of Israel.
All Israel, foreigners and citizens alike, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the LORD facing the
Levitical priests who
carried it. Half of the people stood in front of Mount
Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount
Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded earlier, to
bless the people of Israel.
They did work
wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their
asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;
And the princes said unto them, Let them live; but let them be hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation; as the princes had promised them.
They continued, “Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for the whole congregation.” So the leaders kept their promise.
Now therefore ye are
cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being
bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.
Now therefore you are under a
curse and will perpetually serve as woodcutters and water
carriers for the house of my God.”
And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the LORD, even unto this day, in the place which he should choose.
On that day he made them woodcutters and water carriers, as they are to this day for the congregation of the LORD and for the altar at the place He would choose.
The king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam of
Carmel, one;
the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in
Carmel, one;
Maon,
Carmel, and Ziph, and Juttah,
And Alammelech, and Amad, and Misheal; and reacheth to
Carmel westward, and to Shihor-libnath;
Allammelech, Amad, and Mishal. On the west the border touched
Carmel and Shihor-libnath,
But take
diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to
cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
But be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Take good
heed therefore unto
yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.
Therefore watch
yourselves carefully, that you love the LORD your God.
And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.
After Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he
ushered out those who had
carried it.
And
Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and
smote the host: for the host was secure.
And
Gideon went up by way of the
caravan route east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and he attacked their army, taking them by surprise.
Now therefore
beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
Now please be careful not to drink wine or strong drink, and not to eat anything unclean.
And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the
carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a
swarm of bees and honey in the
carcase of the lion.
When
Samson returned later to take her, he left the road to see the lion’s
carcass, and in it was a
swarm of bees, along with their honey.
And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the
carcase of the lion.
So he
scooped some honey into his hands and
ate it as he went along. And when he returned to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they
ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion’s
carcass.
And
Samson lay till
midnight, and arose at
midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and
carried them up to the top of an hill that is before
Hebron.
But
Samson lay there only until
midnight, when he got up, took hold of the doors of the city gate and both gateposts, and pulled them out, bar and all. Then he put them on his shoulders and took them to the top of the mountain overlooking
Hebron.
Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of
Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
Then
Samson’s brothers and his father’s family came down,
carried him back, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of his father
Manoah. And he had judged Israel twenty years.
Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.
So the five men departed and came to Laish, where they saw that the people were living securely, like the Sidonians,
tranquil and
unsuspecting. There was nothing lacking in the land and no
oppressive ruler. And they were far away from the Sidonians and had no alliance with
anyone.
And these went into
Micah’s house, and
fetched the
carved image, the
ephod, and the
teraphim, and the
molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?
When they entered
Micah’s house and took the
graven image, the
ephod, the household idols, and the
molten idol, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”
So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.
Putting their small children, their
livestock, and their possessions in front of them, they turned and departed.
And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.
The Benjamites did as
instructed and
carried away the number of women they needed from the dancers they caught. They went back to their own inheritance, rebuilt their cities, and settled in them.
In that day I will perform against
Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
On that day I will
carry out against
Eli everything I have spoken about his family, from beginning to end.
When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of
Dagon, and set it by
Dagon.
carried it into the temple of
Dagon, and set it beside his statue.
They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be
carried about unto
Gath. And they
carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” “It must be moved to
Gath,” they replied. So they
carried away the ark of the God of Israel.
And it was so, that, after they had
carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he
smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had
emerods in their secret parts.
But after they had moved the ark to
Gath, the LORD’s hand was also against that city, throwing it into great confusion and
afflicting the men of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.
Now therefore make a new
cart, and take two
milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and
tie the
kine to the
cart, and bring their
calves home from them:
Now, therefore, prepare one new
cart with two milk cows that have never been yoked.
Hitch the cows to the
cart, but take their
calves away and pen them up.
And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the
cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a
trespass offering, in a
coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.
Take the ark of the LORD, set it on the
cart, and in a chest beside it put the gold objects you are sending Him as a guilt offering. Then send the ark on its way,
And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the
cart, and the
coffer with the
mice of gold and the images of their
emerods.
Then they put the ark of the LORD on the
cart, along with the chest containing the gold rats and the images of the tumors.
And the
cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth-
shemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they
clave the wood of the
cart, and offered the
kine a burnt offering unto the LORD.
The
cart came to the field of Joshua of Beth-shemesh and stopped there near a large rock. The people
chopped up the
cart and offered the cows as a burnt offering to the LORD.
And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and
smote them, until they came under Beth-
car.
Then the men of Israel charged out of
Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, striking them down all the way to an area below Beth-
car.
And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave
caring for the
asses, and take thought for us.
When they reached the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant, “Come, let us go back, or my father will stop
worrying about the
donkeys and start
worrying about us.”
When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by
Rachel’s
sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The
asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the
care of the
asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
When you leave me
today, you will find two men at
Rachel’s tomb in Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, ‘The
donkeys you seek have been found, and now your father has stopped
worrying about the
donkeys and started
worrying about you, asking, “What should I do about my son?”’
Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of
Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to
Bethel, one
carrying three kids, and another
carrying three
loaves of bread, and another
carrying a
bottle of wine:
Then you will go on from there until you come to the Oak of
Tabor. Three men going up to God at
Bethel will meet you there, one
carrying three young goats, another
carrying three
loaves of bread, and another
carrying a skin of wine.
It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it
grieved Samuel; and he
cried unto the LORD all night.
“I
regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from following Me and has not
carried out My instructions.” And Samuel was distressed and
cried out to the LORD all that night.
And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to
Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to
Gilgal.
Early in the morning Samuel got up to
confront Saul, but he was told, “Saul has gone to
Carmel, and behold, he has set up a monument for himself and has turned and gone down to
Gilgal.”
And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.
When Samuel reached him, Saul said to him, “May the LORD
bless you. I have
carried out the LORD’s instructions.”
And
carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren
fare, and take their
pledge.
Take also these ten portions of
cheese to the commander of their unit. Check on the
welfare of your brothers and bring back an assurance from them.
And David left his
carriage in the hand of the keeper of the
carriage, and ran into the army, and came and
saluted his brethren.
Then David left his supplies in the
care of the
quartermaster and ran to the battle line. When he arrived, he asked his brothers how they were doing.
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
David replied, “Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep, and whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock,
This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will
smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the
carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand. This day I will strike you down, cut off your head, and give the
carcasses of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the creatures of the earth. Then the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
And
Jonathan gave his artillery unto his
lad, and said unto him, Go,
carry them to the city.
Then
Jonathan gave his
equipment to the boy and said, “Go, take it back to the city.”
And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.
So he left them in the
care of the king of Moab, and they stayed with him the whole time David was in the
stronghold.
So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and
smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
Then David and his men went to Keilah, fought against the Philistines, and
carried off their
livestock, striking them with a mighty blow. So David saved the people of Keilah.
Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his
haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very
subtilly.
Please go and prepare further.
Investigate and watch
carefully where he goes and who has seen him there, for I am told that he is extremely
cunning.
And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in
Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in
Carmel.
Now there was a man in Maon whose business was in
Carmel. He was a very wealthy man with a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing in
Carmel.
And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to
Carmel, and go to Nabal, and
greet him in my name:
And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy
shepherds which were with us, we
hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in
Carmel.
Now I hear that it is time for shearing. When your
shepherds were with us, we did not
harass them, and nothing of theirs was missing the whole time they were in
Carmel.
Now therefore know and consider what thou
wilt do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of
Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.
Now consider
carefully what you must do, because
disaster looms over our master and all his household. For he is such a
scoundrel that
nobody can speak to him!”
And when the servants of David were come to
Abigail to
Carmel, they spake unto her, saying, David sent us unto thee to take thee to him to wife.
When his servants came to
Abigail at
Carmel, they said, “David has sent us to take you as his wife.”
And David dwelt with Achish at
Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and
Abigail the
Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
David and his men settled in
Gath with Achish. Each man had his family with him, and David had his two wives: Ahinoam of
Jezreel and
Abigail of
Carmel, the widow of Nabal.
Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
Because you did not obey the LORD or
carry out His burning anger against Amalek, the LORD has done this to you
today.
And had taken the women
captives, that were therein: they
slew not any, either great or small, but
carried them away, and went on their way.
They had taken
captive the women and all who were there, both young and old. They had not killed
anyone, but had
carried them off as they went on their way.
And David recovered all that the
Amalekites had
carried away: and David
rescued his two wives.
So David recovered everything the
Amalekites had taken, including his two wives.
So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and
Abigail Nabal’s wife the
Carmelite.
So David went there with his two wives, Ahinoam of
Jezreel and
Abigail the widow of Nabal of
Carmel.
And his second, Chileab, of
Abigail the wife of Nabal the
Carmelite; and the third,
Absalom the son of
Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
his second was Chileab, by
Abigail the widow of Nabal of
Carmel; his third was
Absalom, the son of
Maacah daughter of King Talmai of Geshur;
And
Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and
cedar trees, and
carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.
Now
Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with
cedar logs,
carpenters, and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David.
And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
There the Philistines abandoned their idols, and David and his men carried them away.
And they set the ark of God upon a new
cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab,
drave the new
cart.
They set the ark of God on a new
cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new
cart,
So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David
carried it aside into the house of Obed-
edom the Gittite.
So he was unwilling to move the ark of the LORD to the City of David; instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-
edom the Gittite.
And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
When those
carrying the ark of the LORD had advanced six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a
fattened calf.
And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.
Then the king set out, and his entire household followed him. But he left behind ten concubines to take care of the palace.
And lo
Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and
Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
Zadok was also there, and all the Levites with him were
carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and
Abiathar offered sacrifices until the people had passed out of the city.
And the king said unto
Zadok,
Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and
shew me both it, and his
habitation:
Then the king said to
Zadok, “Return the ark of God to the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back and let me see both it and His dwelling place again.
So
Zadok and
Abiathar returned the ark of God to Jerusalem and stayed there.
And when Hushai was come to
Absalom,
Absalom spake unto him, saying,
Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.
So Hushai came to
Absalom, who told him, “
Ahithophel has spoken this proposal. Should we
carry it out? If not, what do you say?”
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we
flee away, they will not
care for us; neither if half of us die, will they
care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
But the people
pleaded, “You must not go out! For if we have to
flee, they will pay no attention to us. Even if half of us die, they will not
care; but you are worth ten thousand of us. It is better for now if you support us from the city.”
And ten young men who
carried Joab’s
armor surrounded
Absalom, struck him, and killed him.
And there went over a
ferry boat to
carry over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of
Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;
and crossed at the
ford to
carry over the king’s household and to do what was good in his sight. When Shimei son of
Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell down before the king
And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor
trimmed his
beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
Then Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, went down to meet the king. He had not
cared for his feet or
trimmed his
mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king had left until the day he returned safely.
And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in
widowhood.
When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to
care for the palace, and he placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer
slept with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.
Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
“Go and tell David that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am offering you three options. Choose one of them, and I will carry it out against you.’”
Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her
cherish him, and let her lie in thy
bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
So his servants said to him, “Let us search for a young virgin for our lord the king, to attend to him and care for him and lie by his side to keep him warm.”
And the
damsel was very fair, and
cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.
The
girl was unsurpassed in beauty; she
cared for the king and served him, but he had no relations with her.
Even as I
sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my
stead; even so will I certainly do this day.
I will
carry out this very day exactly what I
swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”
And unto
Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD before David my father, and because thou hast been
afflicted in all wherein my father was
afflicted.
Then the king said to
Abiathar the priest, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth. Even though you deserve to die, I will not put you to death at this time, since you
carried the ark of the Lord GOD before my father David, and you suffered through all that my father suffered.”
Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou
wilt walk in my statutes, and
execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
“As for this temple you are building, if you walk in My statutes,
carry out My ordinances, and keep all My commandments by walking in them, I will
fulfill through you the promise I made to your father David.
And the
cedar of the house within was
carved with knops and open flowers: all was
cedar; there was no stone seen.
The
cedar paneling inside the temple was
carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was
cedar; not a stone could be seen.
And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.
Then he
carved the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer
sanctuaries, with
carved engravings of
cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers.
The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.
The double doors were made of olive wood, and he
carved into them
cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers and overlaid the
cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold.
And he
carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the
carved work.
He
carved into them
cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold, hammered evenly over the
carvings.
He was a widow’s son of the tribe of
Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and
cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.
He was the son of a widow from the tribe of
Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a
craftsman in bronze. Huram had great skill, understanding, and knowledge for every kind of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and
carried out all his work.
And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up.
and they brought up the ark of the LORD and the Tent of Meeting with all its sacred furnishings. So the priests and Levites carried them up.
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they
carry them away
captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to his own land, whether far or near,
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
May You
forgive Your people who have
sinned against You and all the transgressions they have committed against You, and may You grant them
compassion in the eyes of their captors to show them mercy.
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in great abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke to him all that was on her mind.
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on the throne of Israel. Because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel, He has made you king to carry out justice and righteousness.”
But camest back, and hast eaten bread and
drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy
carcase shall not come unto the
sepulchre of thy fathers.
but you went back and
ate bread and
drank water in the place where He told you not to do so, your body shall never reach the tomb of your fathers.’”
And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and
slew him: and his
carcase was cast in the way, and the
ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the
carcase.
As he went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body was left lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it.
And, behold, men passed by, and saw the
carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the
carcase: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
And there were men passing by who saw the body lying in the road with the lion standing beside it, and they went and reported this in the city where the old prophet lived.
and he went and found the body lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had not eaten the body or
mauled the
donkey.
And the prophet took up the
carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the
ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to
mourn and to
bury him.
So the old prophet lifted up the body of the man of God, laid it on the
donkey, and brought it back to his own city to
mourn for him and
bury him.
And he laid his
carcase in his own grave; and they
mourned over him, saying,
Alas, my brother!
Then he laid the body in his own tomb, and they
lamented over him, “Oh, my brother!”
