Abimelech. Then they piled the branches against the inner chamber and set it on fire above them, killing
everyone in the tower of

slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he

Where thou
diest, will I
die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Where you
die, I will
die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD
punish me, and ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.”
And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to
consume thine eyes, and to
grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall
die in the flower of their age.

grieve. All your descendants will
die by the sword of men.
And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on

died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.
They
pleaded with Samuel, “Pray to the LORD your God for your servants so that we will not
die! For we have added to all our sins the evil of asking for a king.”
For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in
Jonathan my son, he shall surely
die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.
As surely as the LORD who saves Israel lives, even if it is my son
Jonathan, he must
die!” But not one of the troops said a word.
Then Saul said to
Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And
Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must
die.
“Tell me what you have done,” Saul commanded him. So
Jonathan told him, “I only tasted a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. And now I must
die?”
And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely
die,
Jonathan.
And Saul declared, “May God
punish me, and ever so severely, if you,
Jonathan, do not surely
die!”
And the people said unto Saul, Shall
Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God
forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people
rescued Jonathan, that he
died not.
But the people said to Saul, “Must
Jonathan die—he who accomplished such a great
deliverance for Israel? Never! As surely as the LORD lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for with God’s help he has accomplished this
today.” So the people
rescued Jonathan, and he did not
die.
And he said unto him, God
forbid; thou shalt not
die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will
shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
“Far from it!”
Jonathan replied. “You will not
die. Indeed, my father does nothing, great or small, without telling me. So why would he hide this matter from me? This cannot be true!”
And thou shalt not only while yet I live
shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I
die not:
And as long as I live, treat me with the LORD’s loving devotion, that I may not die,
For as long as the son of
Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and
fetch him unto me, for he shall surely
die.
For as long as the son of
Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your
kingship shall be established. Now send for him and bring him to me, for he must surely
die!”
And the king said, Thou shalt surely
die,
Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father’s house.
But the king replied, “You will surely
die,
Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!”
And Samuel
died; and all the Israelites were gathered together, and
lamented him, and buried him in his house at
Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of
Paran.
When Samuel
died, all Israel gathered to
mourn for him; and they buried him at his home in
Ramah. Then David set out and went down to the Wilderness of
Paran.
But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
In the morning when Nabal was
sober, his wife told him about these events, and his heart failed within him and he became like a stone.
And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD
smote Nabal, that he
died.
About ten days later, the LORD struck Nabal dead.
David said
furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall
smite him; or his day shall come to
die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.
David added, “As surely as the LORD lives, the LORD Himself will strike him down; either his day will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.
This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to
die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD’S
anointed. And now see where the king’s
spear is, and the
cruse of water that was at his
bolster.
This thing you have done is not good. As surely as the LORD lives, all of you deserve to
die, since you did not protect your lord, the LORD’s
anointed. Now look around. Where are the king’s
spear and water
jug that were by his head?”
Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had
lamented him, and buried him in
Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
Now by this time Samuel had
died, and all Israel had
mourned for him and buried him in
Ramah, his own city. And Saul had removed the mediums and spiritists from the land.
And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a
snare for my life, to cause me to
die?
But the woman replied, “Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has killed the mediums and spiritists in the land. Why have you set a
trap to get me killed?”
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
When his
armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and
died with him.
So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
So Saul, his three sons, his
armor-bearer, and all his men
died together that same day.
And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they
forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
When the Israelites along the valley and those on the other side of the Jordan saw that the army of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.
And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and
Jonathan his son are dead also.
“What was the outcome?” David asked. “Please tell me.” “The troops fled from the battle,” he replied. “Many of them fell and
died. And Saul and his son
Jonathan are also dead.”
And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he
smote him that he
died.
Then David summoned one of the young men and said, “Go,
execute him!” So the young man struck him down, and he
died.
Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore
Abner with the hinder end of the
spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the
spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and
died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where
Asahel fell down and
died stood still.
But
Asahel refused to turn away; so
Abner thrust the
butt of his
spear into his stomach, and it came out his back, and he fell dead on the spot. And every man
paused when he came to the place where
Asahel had fallen and
died.
But the servants of David had
smitten of Benjamin, and of
Abner’s men, so that three hundred and
threescore men
died.
but they had struck down 360 Benjamites who were with
Abner.
And when
Abner was returned to
Hebron,
Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and
smote him there under the fifth rib, that he
died, for the blood of
Asahel his brother.
And when Saul’s son heard that
Abner was dead in
Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.
Now when
Ish-bosheth son of Saul heard that
Abner had
died in
Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel was dismayed.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Uzzah; and God
smote him there for his error; and there he
died by the ark of God.
And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down on the spot for his
irreverence, and he
died there beside the ark of God.
And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of
Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his
stead.
Some time later, the king of the
Ammonites died and was succeeded by his son Hanun.
And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David
slew the men of seven hundred
chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand
horsemen, and
smote Shobach the captain of their host, who
died there.
But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also struck down Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.
And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the
forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be
smitten, and
die.
In the letter he wrote: “Put Uriah at the front of the fiercest battle; then withdraw from him, so that he may be struck down and killed.”
And the men of the city went out, and fought with
Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite
died also.
And when the men of the city came out and fought against
Joab, some of David’s servants fell, and Uriah the Hittite also
died.
Who
smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a
millstone upon him from the wall, that he
died in Thebez? why went ye
nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
Who was the one to strike
Abimelech son of Jerubbesheth? Was it not a woman who dropped an upper
millstone on him from the wall, so that he
died in Thebez? Why did you get so close to the wall?’ If so, then you are to say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead as well.’”
And David’s anger was greatly
kindled against the man; and he said to
Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely
die:
David burned with anger against the man and said to
Nathan: “As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to
die!
And David said unto
Nathan, I have
sinned against the LORD. And
Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not
die.
Then David said to
Nathan, “I have
sinned against the LORD.” “The LORD has taken away your sin,”
Nathan replied. “You will not
die.
Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to
blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely
die.
Nevertheless, because by this deed you have shown utter contempt for the word of the LORD, the son born to you will surely die.”
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child
died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not
hearken unto our voice: how will he then
vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
On the seventh day the child
died. But David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Look, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not
listen to us. So how can we tell him the child is dead? He may even
harm himself.”
Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou
didst fast and
weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou
didst rise and eat bread.
“What is this you have done?” his servants asked. “While the child was alive, you fasted and
wept, but when he
died, you got up and
ate.”
For we must needs
die, and are as water
spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither
doth God respect any person: yet
doth he
devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.
For surely we will die and be like water poured out on the ground, which cannot be recovered. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises ways that the banished one may not be cast out from Him.
And when
Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he
saddled his
ass, and arose, and
gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and
hanged himself, and
died, and was buried in the
sepulchre of his father.
When
Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he
saddled his
donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his affairs in order and
hanged himself. So he
died and was buried in his father’s tomb.
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we
flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us
die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
But the people
pleaded, “You must not go out! For if we have to
flee, they will pay no attention to us. Even if half of us
die, they will not care; but you are worth ten thousand of us. It is better for now if you support us from the city.”
And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and
wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son
Absalom, my son, my son
Absalom! would God I had
died for thee, O
Absalom, my son, my son!
The king was
shaken and went up to the gate chamber and
wept. And as he walked, he
cried out, “O my son
Absalom! My son, my son
Absalom! If only I had
died instead of you, O
Absalom, my son, my son!”
In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if
Absalom had lived, and all we had
died this day, then it had pleased thee well.
You love those who
hate you and
hate those who love you! For you have made it clear
today that the commanders and soldiers mean nothing to you. I know
today that if
Absalom were alive and all of us were dead, it would have pleased you!
And
Absalom, whom we
anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?
But
Absalom, the man we
anointed over us, has
died in battle. So why do you say nothing about restoring the king?”
Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not
die. And the king
sware unto him.
So the king said to Shimei, “You shall not
die.” And the king
swore an oath to him.
Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
Please let your servant return, that I may die in my own city near the tomb of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what is good in your sight.”
But
Amasa took no
heed to the sword that was in
Joab’s hand: so he
smote him
therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his
bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he
died. So
Joab and
Abishai his brother pursued after
Sheba the son of Bichri.
So the LORD sent a
pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there
died of the people from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba seventy thousand men.
So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand of the people from
Dan to
Beersheba died.
And Solomon said, If he will
shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall
die.
And Solomon replied, “If he is a man of character, not a single hair of his will fall to the ground. But if evil is found in him, he will die.”
Now the days of David drew
nigh that he should
die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,
As the time drew near for David to die, he charged his son Solomon,
And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died.
So King Solomon sent the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who struck down Adonijah, and he died.
And unto
Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD before David my father, and because thou hast been
afflicted in all wherein my father was
afflicted.
Then the king said to
Abiathar the priest, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth. Even though you deserve to
die, I will not put you to death at this time, since you carried the ark of the Lord GOD before my father David, and you suffered through all that my father suffered.”
And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come forth. And he said,
Nay; but I will
die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said
Joab, and thus he answered me.
And Benaiah entered the tent of the LORD and said to
Joab, “The king says, ‘Come out!’” But
Joab replied, “No, I will
die here.” So Benaiah relayed the message to the king, saying, “This is how
Joab answered me.”
For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the
brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely
die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.
On the day you go out and cross the Kidron Valley, know for sure that you will die; your blood will be on your own head.”
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to
swear by the LORD, and
protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any
whither, that thou shalt surely
die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you
swear by the LORD and
warn you, ‘On the day you leave and go elsewhere, know for sure that you will
die’? And you told me, ‘The sentence is fair; I will
comply.’
So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
Then the king commanded Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down, and he died. Thus the kingdom was firmly established in the hand of Solomon.
And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
During the night this woman’s son died because she rolled over on him.
Then king
Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he
died. Therefore king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Adoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then
bury me in the
sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones:
After he had buried him, the prophet said to his sons, “When I
die, you must
bury me in the tomb where the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones,
Him that
dieth of
Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that
dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the LORD hath spoken it.
Anyone belonging to
Jeroboam who
dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and
anyone who
dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the air.’ For the LORD has spoken.
Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.
As for you, get up and go home. When your feet enter the city, the child will die.
And
Jeroboam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the
threshold of the door, the child
died;
Then
Jeroboam’s wife got up and departed for Tirzah, and as soon as she
stepped over the
threshold of the house, the boy
died.
Him that
dieth of
Baasha in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that
dieth of his in the fields shall the fowls of the air eat.
Anyone belonging to
Baasha who
dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and
anyone who
dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the air.”
And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king’s house, and burnt the king’s house over him with fire, and died,
When Zimri saw that the city was captured, he entered the citadel of the royal palace and burned it down upon himself. So he died
But the people that followed Omri prevailed against the people that followed Tibni the son of Ginath: so Tibni died, and Omri reigned.
But the followers of Omri proved stronger than those of Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.
And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a
cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a
cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and
die.
But she replied, “As surely as the LORD your God lives, I have no bread—only a handful of flour in a
jar and a little oil in a
jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks to take home and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so that we may eat it and
die.”
And he
cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I
sojourn, by
slaying her son?
Then he
cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy on this widow who has opened her home to me, by causing her son to
die?”
But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a
juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might
die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
while he himself traveled on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a
broom tree and prayed that he might
die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
And set two men, sons of
Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou
didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may
die.
But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them
testify, ‘You have
cursed both God and the king!’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”
And there came in two men, children of
Belial, and sat before him: and the men of
Belial witnessed against him, even against
Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying,
Naboth did
blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he
died.
And the two scoundrels came in and sat opposite
Naboth, and these men
testified against him before the people, saying, “
Naboth has
cursed both God and the king!” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.
Him that
dieth of
Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that
dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.
Anyone belonging to
Ahab who
dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and
anyone who
dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the air.”
And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his
chariot against the Syrians, and
died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the
chariot.
The battle
raged throughout that day, and the king was
propped up in his
chariot facing the Arameans. And the blood from his wound ran out
onto the floor of the
chariot, and that evening he
died.
So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
So the king died and was brought to Samaria, where they buried him.
Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely
die. And
Elijah departed.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘You will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely
die.’” So
Elijah departed.
And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely
die.
They replied, “A man came up to meet us and said, ‘Go back to the king who sent you and tell him that this is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending these men to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely
die.’”
