So
Zedekiah the king
sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not
put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
But King
Zedekiah swore secretly to Jeremiah, “As surely as the LORD lives, who has given us this life, I will not kill you, nor will I deliver you into the hands of these men who are seeking your life.”
But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
If the officials hear that I have spoken with you, and they come and demand of you, ‘Tell us what you said to the king and what he said to you; do not hide it from us, or we will kill you,’
Moreover he
put out
Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.
Then he
put out
Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with bronze chains to take him to Babylon.
For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD.
For I will surely
rescue you so that you do not fall by the sword. Because you have trusted in Me, you will escape with your life like a
spoil of war, declares the LORD.’”
Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away
captive to Babylon;
When all the commanders and men of the armies in the field heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam over the land and that he had
put him in charge of the men, women, and children who were the poorest of the land and had not been exiled to Babylon,
As for me, behold, I will dwell at
Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and
put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.
As for me, I will stay in
Mizpah to represent you before the Chaldeans who come to us. As for you, gather wine grapes, summer fruit, and oil, place them in your
storage jars, and live in the cities you have taken.”
But
Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might
put us to death, and carry us away
captives into Babylon.
Rather,
Baruch son of Neriah is
inciting you against us to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, so that they may
put us to death or exile us to Babylon!”
And I will
kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away
captives: and he shall
array himself with the land of Egypt, as a
shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace.
I will
kindle a fire in the temples of the gods of Egypt, and
Nebuchadnezzar will burn those temples and take their gods as
captives. So he will
wrap himself with the land of Egypt as a
shepherd wraps himself in his garment, and he will depart from there unscathed.
Harness the horses; and get up, ye
horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets;
furbish the spears, and
put on the brigandines.
Harness the horses; mount the steeds; take your positions with helmets on! Polish your spears;
put on
armor!
Come up, ye horses; and
rage, ye
chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.
Advance, O horses! Race
furiously, O
chariots! Let the warriors come forth—
Cush and
Put carrying their shields, men of
Lydia drawing the bow.
The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
The Daughter of Egypt will be put to shame; she will be delivered into the hands of the people of the north.”
O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be
ere thou be quiet?
put up
thyself into thy
scabbard, rest, and be still.
‘
Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your
sheath; cease and be still!’
Give wings unto Moab, that it may
flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be
desolate, without any to dwell therein.
Put salt on Moab, for she will be laid waste; her cities will become
desolate, with no one to dwell in them.
Moab is confounded; for it is broken down:
howl and cry; and tell ye it in
Arnon, that Moab is
spoiled,
Moab is
put to shame, for it has been
shattered.
Wail and cry out! Declare by the
Arnon that Moab is destroyed.
Howl, O
Heshbon, for
Ai is
spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah,
gird you with
sackcloth;
lament, and run to and
fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, and his priests and his princes together.
Wail, O
Heshbon, for
Ai has been destroyed; cry out, O daughters of Rabbah!
Put on
sackcloth and
mourn; run back and forth within your walls, for Milcom will go into exile together with his priests and officials.
Concerning Damascus.
Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil
tidings: they are
fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
Concerning Damascus: “
Hamath and Arpad are
put to shame, for they have heard a bad report; they are
agitated like the sea; their
anxiety cannot be calmed.
Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is
put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
Put yourselves in
array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her,
spare no arrows: for she hath
sinned against the LORD.
Line up in formation around Babylon, all you who draw the bow! Shoot at her!
Spare no arrows! For she has
sinned against the LORD.
They shall hold the bow and the
lance: they are cruel, and will not
shew mercy: their voice shall
roar like the sea, and they shall
ride upon horses, every one
put in
array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
They
grasp the bow and
spear; they are cruel and
merciless. Their voice roars like the sea, and they
ride upon horses, lined up like men in formation against you, O Daughter of Babylon.
Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his
brigandine: and
spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.
Do not let the archer bend his bow or
put on his
armor. Do not
spare her young men;
devote all her army to destruction!
Every man is
brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the
graven image: for his
molten image is
falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
Every man is senseless and devoid of knowledge; every
goldsmith is
put to shame by his idols. For his
molten images are a
fraud, and there is no breath in them.
Then he
put out the eyes of
Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and
put him in prison till the day of his death.
Then he
put out
Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him with bronze
shackles, and took him to Babylon, where he kept him in
custody until his dying day.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and
put them to death in Riblah in the land of
Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away
captive out of his own land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and
put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.
The elders of the daughter of
Zion sit upon the ground, and keep silence: they have cast up dust upon their heads; they have
girded themselves with
sackcloth: the virgins of Jerusalem
hang down their heads to the ground.
The elders of the Daughter of
Zion sit on the ground in silence. They have thrown dust on their heads and
put on
sackcloth. The young women of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.
He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.
Let him
bury his face in the dust— perhaps there is still hope.
Give them sorrow of heart, thy
curse unto them.
Again, When a righteous man
doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Now if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I
put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will hold you responsible for his blood.
But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:
And you, son of man, they will
tie with ropes, and you will be bound so that you cannot go out among the people.
Take thou also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and
millet, and
fitches, and
put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and
ninety days shalt thou eat thereof.
But take wheat, barley, beans, lentils,
millet, and
spelt;
put them in a single container and make them into bread for
yourself. This is what you are to eat during the 390 days you lie on your side.
They shall also
gird themselves with
sackcloth, and
horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and
baldness upon all their heads.
They will
put on
sackcloth, and terror will
overwhelm them. Shame will cover all their faces, and all their heads will be
shaved.
And he
put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a
lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.
He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the
idol that provokes jealousy was seated.
Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to
provoke me to anger: and, lo, they
put the branch to their nose.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and continually
provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even
putting the branch to their nose!
And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that
sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
“Go throughout the city of Jerusalem,” said the LORD, “and
put a mark on the foreheads of the men
sighing and
groaning over all the abominations committed there.”
And one
cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and
put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went out.
Then one of the
cherubim reached out his hand and took some of the fire that was among them. And he
put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who received it and went out.
And I will give them one heart, and I will
put a new spirit within you; and I will take the
stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh,
Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will make this
proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a
proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will
put an end to this
proverb, and in Israel they will no longer
recite it.’ But say to them: ‘The days are at hand when every vision will be fulfilled.
Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
“Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and
put wicked
stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I
consult with them in any way?
Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
Therefore speak to them and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When any
Israelite sets up idols in his heart and
puts a wicked
stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him according to his great
idolatry,
For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and
putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to
enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
For when any
Israelite or any foreigner dwelling in Israel separates himself from Me, sets up idols in his heart, and
puts a wicked
stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of Me, I the LORD will answer him Myself.
I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.
I adorned you with
jewelry, and I
put bracelets on your wrists and a chain around your neck.
And I
put a
jewel on thy
forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.
I put a ring in your nose, earrings on your ears, and a beautiful crown upon your head.
And thy
renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my
comeliness, which I had
put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
Your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, for it was perfect in the
splendor I bestowed on you, declares the Lord GOD.
And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and
execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the
harlot, and thou also shalt give no
hire any more.
Then they will burn down your houses and
execute judgment against you in the sight of many women. I will
put an end to your
prostitution, and you will never again pay your lovers.
Son of man,
put forth a
riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;
“Son of man,
pose a
riddle; speak a parable to the house of Israel
And hath taken of the king’s seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:
He took a member of the royal family and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. Then he carried away the leading men of the land,
And they put him in ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.
With hooks they
caged him and brought him to the king of Babylon. They brought him into captivity so that his
roar was heard no longer on the mountains of Israel.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they
despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly
polluted: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them in the wilderness, to
consume them.
Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness. They did not follow My statutes and they rejected My ordinances—though the man who does these things will live by them—and they utterly
profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
put an end to them in the wilderness.
Her priests have
violated my law, and have
profaned mine holy things: they have
put no difference between the holy and
profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have
hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am
profaned among them.
Her priests do violence to My law and
profane My holy things. They make no distinction between the holy and the common, and they fail to distinguish between the clean and the unclean. They disregard My Sabbaths, so that I am
profaned among them.
These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and her daughters, and
slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon her.
They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and
put her to the sword. Thus she became a
byword among women, and they executed judgment against her.
Thus will I make thy
lewdness to cease from thee, and thy
whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: so that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.
So I will
put an end to your
indecency and
prostitution, which began in the land of Egypt, and you will not lift your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.’
Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.
Because you have followed the path of your sister, I will put her cup into your hand.’
And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men of the common sort were brought
Sabeans from the wilderness, which
put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.
accompanied by the sound of a carefree crowd. Drunkards were brought in from the desert along with men from the
rabble, who
put bracelets on your wrists and beautiful crowns on your head.
Thus will I cause
lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your
lewdness.
And utter a parable unto the
rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:
Now speak a parable to this
rebellious house and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘
Put the pot on the fire;
put it on and pour in the water.
Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the
thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.
Put in the pieces of meat, every good piece—
thigh and shoulder— fill it with choice bones.
Forbear to cry, make no
mourning for the dead, bind the
tire of thine head upon thee, and
put on thy
shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.
Groan quietly; do not
mourn for the dead.
Put on your
turban and
strap your
sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips or eat the bread of mourners.”
Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and
put off their
broidered garments: they shall
clothe themselves with
trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall
tremble at every moment, and be
astonished at thee.
All the princes of the sea will descend from their thrones, remove their robes, and strip off their
embroidered garments. Clothed with terror, they will sit on the ground,
trembling every moment,
appalled over you.
They of Persia and of Lud and of
Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they
hanged the shield and
helmet in thee; they set forth thy
comeliness.
Men of Persia,
Lydia, and
Put served as warriors in your army. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls; they gave you
splendor.
But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales.
But I will
put hooks in your jaws and cause the fish of your streams to
cling to your scales. I will
haul you up out of your rivers, and all the fish of your streams will
cling to your scales.
Ethiopia, and
Libya, and
Lydia, and all the mingled people, and
Chub, and the men of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword.
Cush,
Put, and Lud, and all the various peoples, as well as
Libya and the men of the covenant land, will fall with Egypt by the sword.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also make the multitude of Egypt to cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon.
This is what the Lord GOD says: I will
put an end to the hordes of Egypt by the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease out of
Noph; and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: and I will
put a fear in the land of Egypt.
This is what the Lord GOD says: I will destroy the idols and
put an end to the images in
Memphis. There will no longer be a prince in Egypt, and I will instill fear in that land.
Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it shall not be bound up to be
healed, to
put a roller to bind it, to make it strong to hold the sword.
“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. See, it has not been bound up for
healing, or
splinted for strength to hold the sword.
And I will
strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and
put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall
groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man.
I will
strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place My sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, who will
groan before him like a
mortally wounded man.
But I will
strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall
put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt.
I will
strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king, but Pharaoh’s arms will fall
limp. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I place My sword in the hand of Babylon’s king, and he wields it against the land of Egypt.
And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height.
I will put your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains.
And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
When I
extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and
darken their stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them
uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is
put in the midst of them that be slain.
Among the slain they prepare a resting place for
Elam with all her hordes, with her graves all around her. All of them are
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, although their terror was once spread in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit. They are placed among the slain.
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they
shew much love, but their heart goeth after their
covetousness.
So My people come to you as usual, sit before you, and hear your words; but they do not
put them into practice. Although they express love with their mouths, their hearts pursue
dishonest gain.
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
Indeed, you are to them like a singer of love songs with a beautiful voice, who
skillfully plays an instrument. They hear your words but do not
put them into practice.
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I
put within you: and I will take away the
stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes and to carefully observe My ordinances.
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will
attach tendons to you and make flesh grow upon you and cover you with skin. I will
put breath within you so that you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
I will put My Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will do it, declares the LORD.’”
Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel associated with him, and I will put them together with the stick of Judah. I will make them into a single stick, and they will become one in My hand.’
And I will turn thee back, and
put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and
horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
I will turn you around,
put hooks in your jaws, and bring you out with all your army—your horses, your
horsemen in full
armor, and a great company armed with shields and bucklers, all
brandishing their swords.
Persia,
Cush, and
Put will
accompany them, all with shields and helmets,
When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.
Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach the places that are for the people.”
Now let them
put away their
whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever.
Now let them remove far from Me their
prostitution and the funeral offerings for their kings, and I will dwell among them
forever.
And thou shalt take of the blood thereof, and
put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt thou
cleanse and
purge it.
You are to take some of its blood and
put it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of the
ledge, and all around the
rim; thus you will
cleanse the altar and make
atonement for it.
And when they go forth into the utter court, even into the utter court to the people, they shall
put off their garments wherein they ministered, and lay them in the holy chambers, and they shall
put on other garments; and they shall not
sanctify the people with their garments.
When they go out to the outer court, to the people, they are to take off the garments in which they have ministered, leave them in the holy chambers, and dress in other clothes so that they do not
transmit holiness to the people with their garments.
Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.
And they shall not marry a widow or a
divorced woman, but must marry a virgin of the descendants of the house of Israel, or a widow of a priest.
And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering, and put it upon the posts of the house, and upon the four corners of the settle of the altar, and upon the posts of the gate of the inner court.
And the priest is to take some of the blood from the sin offering and
put it on the doorposts of the temple, on the four corners of the
ledge of the altar, and on the gateposts of the inner court.
And the Lord gave
Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of
Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the
treasure house of his god.
And the Lord delivered into his hand
Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with some of the articles from the house of God. He carried these off to the land of
Shinar, to the house of his god, where he
put them in the treasury of his god.
And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages,
trembled and feared before him: whom he would he
slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he
put down.
Because of the greatness that He bestowed on him, the people of every nation and language
trembled in fear before him. He killed whom he wished and kept alive whom he wished; he
exalted whom he wished and humbled whom he wished.
Then commanded
Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and
put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a
proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Then
Belshazzar gave the command, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a gold chain around his neck, and proclaimed him the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the
transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make
reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in
everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to
anoint the most Holy.
Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and your holy city to stop their
transgression, to
put an end to sin, to make
atonement for iniquity, to bring in
everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to
anoint the Most Holy Place.
And he shall
confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it
desolate, even until the
consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the
desolate.
And he will
confirm a covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will
put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of the temple will come the
abomination that causes
desolation, until the decreed destruction is poured out upon him.”
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.
Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will put an end to his reproach and will turn it back upon him.
And the LORD said unto him, Call his name
Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will
avenge the blood of
Jezreel upon the house of
Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
Then the LORD said to
Hosea, “Name him
Jezreel, for soon I will bring the
bloodshed of
Jezreel upon the house of
Jehu, and I will
put an end to the kingdom of Israel.
Plead with your mother,
plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore
put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her
adulteries from between her breasts;
Rebuke your mother,
rebuke her, for she is not My wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the
adultery from her face and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.
I will also cause all her
mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.
I will
put an end to all her
exultation: her feasts, New Moons, and Sabbaths— all her appointed feasts.
Set the
trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have
transgressed my covenant, and
trespassed against my law.
Put the ram’s horn to your lips! An eagle looms over the house of the LORD, because the people have
transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.
It is in my desire that I should
chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.
Gird yourselves, and
lament, ye priests:
howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in
sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is
withholden from the house of your God.
Put on
sackcloth and
lament, O priests;
wail, O ministers of the altar. Come,
spend the night in
sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because the grain and drink offerings are
withheld from the house of your God.
And ye shall eat in
plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt
wondrously with you: and my people shall never be
ashamed.
You will have
plenty to eat, until you are satisfied. You will praise the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders for you. My people will never again be
put to shame.
And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be
ashamed.
Then you will know that I am present in Israel and that I am the LORD your God, and there is no other. My people will never again be put to shame.
Put ye in the
sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
Swing the
sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come,
trample the grapes, for the winepress is full; the wine vats overflow because their wickedness is great.
Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
You dismiss the day of
calamity and bring near a reign of violence.
So the people of
Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and
put on
sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
And the Ninevites believed God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in
sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.
