And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.
Then she brought the pan and set it down before him, but he refused to eat. “
Send everyone away!” said Amnon. And
everyone went out.
And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in
sending me away is greater than the other that thou
didst unto me. But he would not
hearken unto her.
“No,” she replied, “
sending me away is worse than this great wrong you have already done to me!” But he refused to
listen to her.
But
Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.
But
Absalom urged him, so the king
sent Amnon and the rest of his sons.
So
Joab sent to Tekoa to bring a wise woman from there. He told her, “Please pretend to be a
mourner; put on clothes for
mourning and do not
anoint yourself with oil. Act like a woman who has
mourned for the dead a long time.
Therefore
Absalom sent for
Joab, to have
sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: and when he
sent again the second time, he would not come.
Then he
sent for
Joab to
send him to the king, but
Joab refused to come to him. So
Absalom sent a second time, but
Joab still would not come.
And
Absalom answered
Joab, Behold, I
sent unto thee, saying, Come
hither, that I may
send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.
“Look,” said
Absalom, “I
sent for you and said, ‘Come here. I want to
send you to the king to ask: Why have I come back from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there.’ So now, let me see the king’s face, and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me.”
Then
Absalom sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel with this message: “When you hear the sound of the horn, you are to say, ‘
Absalom reigns in
Hebron!’”
And
Absalom sent for
Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the
conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with
Absalom.
Behold, they have there with them their two sons,
Ahimaaz Zadok’s son, and
Jonathan Abiathar’s son; and by them ye shall
send unto me every thing that ye can hear.
Now therefore
send quickly, and tell David, saying,
Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be
swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
Now
send quickly and tell David, ‘Do not
spend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but be sure to cross over. Otherwise the king and all the people with him will be
swallowed up.’”
And David
sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of
Joab, and a third part under the hand of
Abishai the son of Zeruiah,
Joab’s brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
He
sent out the troops, a third under
Joab, a third under
Joab’s brother
Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the troops, “I will surely march out with you as well.”
And the king said, Is the young man
Absalom safe? And
Ahimaaz answered, When
Joab sent the king’s servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great
tumult, but I knew not what it was.
The king asked, “Is the young man
Absalom all right?” And
Ahimaaz replied, “When
Joab sent the king’s servant and your servant, I saw a great
tumult, but I do not know what it was.”
And king David
sent to
Zadok and to
Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, even to his house.
Then King David
sent this message to
Zadok and
Abiathar, the priests: “Say to the elders of Judah, ‘Why should you be the last to restore the king to his palace, since the talk of all Israel has reached the king at his quarters?
And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.
So he
swayed the hearts of all the men of Judah as though they were one man, and they
sent word to the king: “Return, you and all your servants.”
And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.
Now Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan with the king and send him on his way from there.
He shot His arrows and scattered the foes; He
hurled lightning and routed them.
He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.
So
Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or
wilt thou
flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’
pestilence in thy land? now
advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that
sent me.
So
Gad went and said to David, “Do you choose to
endure three years of famine in your land, three months of
fleeing the pursuit of your enemies, or three days of plague upon your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should reply to Him who
sent me.”
So the LORD
sent a
pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba seventy thousand men.
So the LORD
sent a plague upon Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand of the people from
Dan to
Beersheba died.
And the king hath
sent with him
Zadok the priest, and
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to
ride upon the king’s
mule:
And with Solomon, the king has
sent Zadok the priest,
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, along with the Cherethites and Pelethites, and they have set him on the king’s
mule.
So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
So King Solomon summoned Adonijah down from the altar, and he came and bowed down before King Solomon, who said to him, “Go to your home.”
And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died.
So King Solomon sent the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who struck down Adonijah, and he died.
And it was told king Solomon that
Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, he is by the altar. Then Solomon
sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.
It was reported to King Solomon: “
Joab has fled to the tent of the LORD and is now beside the altar.” So Solomon
sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, “Go, strike him down!”
And the king
sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any
whither.
Then the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for
yourself in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go
anywhere else.
And Shimei said unto the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
“The sentence is fair,” Shimei replied. “Your servant will do as my lord the king has spoken.” And Shimei lived in Jerusalem for a long time.
And the king
sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to
swear by the LORD, and
protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any
whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you
swear by the LORD and
warn you, ‘On the day you leave and go elsewhere, know for sure that you will die’? And you told me, ‘The
sentence is fair; I will
comply.’
And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
So men of all nations came to
listen to Solomon’s wisdom,
sent by all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.
And
Hiram king of Tyre
sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had
anointed him king in the room of his father: for
Hiram was ever a lover of David.
Now when
Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been
anointed king in his father’s place, he
sent envoys to Solomon; for
Hiram had always been a friend of David.
And Solomon
sent to
Hiram, saying,
And Solomon relayed this message to
Hiram:
And
Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou
sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of
cedar, and concerning timber of
fir.
Then
Hiram sent a reply to Solomon, saying: “I have received your message; I will do all you desire regarding the
cedar and
cypress timber.
And he
sent them to
Lebanon ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in
Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the
levy.
He
sent them to
Lebanon in monthly shifts of 10,000 men, so that they would
spend one month in
Lebanon and two months at home. And Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor.
Now King Solomon sent to bring Huram from Tyre.
Then hear thou in heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You
send rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
If thy people go out to battle against their enemy,
whithersoever thou shalt
send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name:
When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to the LORD in the direction of the city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name,
and when they come to their
senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
On the eighth day he
sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and
glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
On the
fifteenth day Solomon
sent the people away. So they blessed the king and went home, joyful and
glad in heart for all the good things that the LORD had done for His servant David and for His people Israel.
And
Hiram had
sent the king 120 talents of gold.
And
Hiram sent in the navy his servants,
shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
And
Hiram sent his servants, men who knew the sea, to serve in the fleet with Solomon’s servants.
That they
sent and called him. And
Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto
Rehoboam, saying,
So they
sent for
Jeroboam, and he and the whole assembly of Israel came to
Rehoboam and said,
And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we
send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
Then king
Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Adoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that
Jeroboam was come again, that they
sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
When all Israel heard that
Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. Only the tribe of Judah followed the house of David.
And it was so, when
Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of
Jeroboam; why feignest thou
thyself to be another? for I am
sent to thee with heavy
tidings.
So when
Ahijah heard the sound of her feet entering the door, he said, “Come in, wife of
Jeroboam! Why are you
disguised? For I have been
sent to you with bad news.
Then
Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king
Asa sent them to Ben-
hadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
So
Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace. He entrusted it to his servants and
sent them with this message to Ben-
hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion king of
Aram, who was ruling in Damascus:
There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have
sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with
Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
“Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. See, I have
sent you a gift of silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with
Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.”
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the
cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD
sendeth rain upon the earth.
for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The
jar of flour will not be exhausted and the
jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD
sends rain upon the face of the earth.’”
And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to
Elijah in the third year, saying, Go,
shew thyself unto
Ahab; and I will
send rain upon the earth.
After a long time, in the third year of the
drought, the word of the LORD came to
Elijah: “Go and present
yourself to
Ahab, and I will
send rain upon the face of the earth.”
As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom,
whither my lord hath not
sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.
As surely as the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not
sent someone to search for you. When they said, ‘He is not here,’ he made that kingdom or nation
swear that they had not found you.
Now therefore
send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount
Carmel, and the prophets of
Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at
Jezebel’s table.
Now
summon all Israel to meet me on Mount
Carmel, along with the four hundred and fifty prophets of
Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah who eat at
Jezebel’s table.”
So
Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount
Carmel.
So
Ahab summoned all the Israelites and assembled the prophets on Mount
Carmel.
Then
Jezebel sent a
messenger unto
Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to
morrow about this time.
So
Jezebel sent a
messenger to
Elijah, saying, “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely, if by this time
tomorrow I do not make your life like the lives of those you killed!”
And he
sent messengers to
Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Ben-
hadad,
Then he
sent messengers into the city to
Ahab king of Israel,
And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Ben-
hadad, saying, Although I have
sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
The messengers came back and said, “This is what Ben-
hadad says: ‘I have
sent to you to demand your silver, your gold, your wives, and your children.
Yet I will
send my servants unto thee to
morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that
whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
But about this time
tomorrow I will
send my servants to search your palace and the houses of your servants. They will seize and carry away all that is precious to you.’”
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
Then the king of Israel summoned all the elders of the land and said, “Please take note and see that this man is looking for trouble, for when he demanded my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold, I did not deny him.”
Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-
hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou
didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
So
Ahab answered the messengers of Ben-
hadad, “Tell my lord the king, ‘All that you demanded of your servant the first time I will do, but this thing I cannot do.’” So the messengers departed and relayed the message to Ben-
hadad.
And Ben-
hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
Then Ben-
hadad sent another message to
Ahab: “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely, if enough dust remains of Samaria for each of my men to have a handful.”
And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-
hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
And the young officers of the district governors marched out first. Now Ben-
hadad had
sent out scouts, who reported to him, “Men are marching out of Samaria.”
And Ben-
hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said
Ahab, I will
send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and
sent him away.
Ben-
hadad said to him, “I will restore the cities my father took from your father; you may set up your own marketplaces in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.” “By this treaty I release you,”
Ahab replied. So he made a treaty with him and
sent him away.
So she wrote letters in
Ahab’s name, and sealed them with his seal, and
sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with
Naboth.
Then
Jezebel wrote letters in
Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and
sent them to the elders and nobles who lived with
Naboth in his city.
And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as
Jezebel had
sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had
sent unto them.
So the elders and nobles who lived in
Naboth’s city did as
Jezebel had
instructed in the letters she had written to them.
Then they
sent to
Jezebel, saying,
Naboth is stoned, and is dead.
Then they
sent word to
Jezebel: “
Naboth has been stoned to death.”
And
Ahaziah fell down through a
lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he
sent messengers, and said unto them, Go,
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.
Now
Ahaziah had fallen through the
lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he
sent messengers and
instructed them: “Go inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron, whether I will recover from this injury.”
And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that
sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou
sendest to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
They replied, “A man came up to meet us and said, ‘Go back to the king who
sent you and tell him that this is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are
sending these men to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.’”
Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.
Then King
Ahaziah sent to
Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. So the captain went up to
Elijah, who was sitting on top of a hill, and said to him, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down!’”
Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.
So the king
sent to
Elijah another captain with his fifty men. And the captain said to
Elijah, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down at once!’”
And he
sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
So the king
sent a third captain with his fifty men. And the third captain went up, fell on his knees before
Elijah, and
begged him, “Man of God, may my life and the lives of these fifty servants please be precious in your sight.
And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD,
Forasmuch as thou hast
sent messengers to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to
enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
And
Elijah said to King
Ahaziah, “This is what the LORD says: Is there really no God in Israel for you to inquire of His word? Is that why you have
sent messengers to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.”
And
Elijah said unto
Elisha,
Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath
sent me to
Bethel. And
Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to
Bethel.
and
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has
sent me on to
Bethel.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to
Bethel.
And
Elijah said unto him,
Elisha,
tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath
sent me to
Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to
Jericho.
And
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has
sent me on to
Jericho.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went to
Jericho.
And
Elijah said unto him,
Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath
sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
And
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has
sent me on to the Jordan.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest
peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not
send.
“Look now,” they said to
Elisha, “we your servants have fifty
valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not
send them,”
Elisha replied.
And when they urged him till he was
ashamed, he said,
Send. They
sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
But when they pressed him to the point of
embarrassment, he said, “
Send them.” And they
sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find
Elijah.
And he went and
sent to
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me:
wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
And he
sent a message to
Jehoshaphat king of Judah: “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” “I will go,” replied
Jehoshaphat. “I am like you, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
And she called unto her husband, and said,
Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the
asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
And the woman called her husband and said, “Please
send me one of the servants and one of the
donkeys, that I may go quickly to the man of God and return.”
And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will
send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of
raiment.
“Go now,” said the king of
Aram, “and I will
send you with a letter to the king of Israel.” So
Naaman departed, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten sets of clothing.
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have
therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his
leprosy.
And the letter that he took to the king of Israel stated: “With this letter I am
sending my servant
Naaman, so that you may cure him of his
leprosy.”
And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man
doth send unto me to recover a man of his
leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
When the king of Israel read the letter, he
tore his clothes and asked, “Am I God, killing and giving life, that this man expects me to cure a
leper? Surely you can see that he is seeking a quarrel with me!”
And it was so, when
Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he
sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.
Now when
Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had
torn his clothes, he
sent a message to the king: “Why have you
torn your clothes? Please let the man come to me, and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel.”
And
Elisha sent a
messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.
Then
Elisha sent him a
messenger, who said, “Go and wash
yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored, and you will be clean.”
And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.
“Everything is all right,” Gehazi replied. “My master has sent me to say, ‘I have just now discovered that two young men from the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.’”
And the man of God
sent unto the king of Israel, saying,
Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
Then the man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Be careful passing by this place, for the Arameans are going down there.”
And the king of Israel
sent to the place which the man of God told him and
warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
So the king of Israel
sent word to the place the man of God had pointed out. Time and again
Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places.
And he said, Go and
spy where he is, that I may
send and
fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
So the king said, “Go and see where he is, that I may
send men to capture him.” On receiving the report, “
Elisha is in Dothan,”
Therefore
sent he thither horses, and
chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
the king of
Aram sent horses,
chariots, and a great army. They went there by night and surrounded the city.
And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and
drunk, he
sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
So the king prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he
sent them away, and they returned to their master. And the
Aramean raiders did not come into the land of Israel again.
But
Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king
sent a man from before him: but
ere the
messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath
sent to take away mine head? look, when the
messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?
Now
Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king
sent a
messenger ahead, but before he arrived,
Elisha said to the elders, “Do you see how this murderer has
sent someone to cut off my head? Look, when the
messenger comes, shut the door to keep him out. Is not the sound of his master’s footsteps behind him?”
And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.
But one of his servants replied, “Please, have scouts take five of the horses that remain in the city. Their
plight will be no worse than all the Israelites who are left here. You can see that all the Israelites here are
doomed. So let us
send them and find out.”
They took therefore two
chariot horses; and the king
sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.
Then the scouts took two
chariots with horses, and the king
sent them after the
Aramean army, saying, “Go and see.”
So
Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-
hadad king of Syria hath
sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
So
Hazael went to meet
Elisha, taking with him a gift of forty
camel loads of every good thing from Damascus. And he went in and stood before him and said, “Your son Ben-
hadad king of
Aram has
sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
And there stood a
watchman on the tower in
Jezreel, and he
spied the company of
Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And
Joram said, Take an
horseman, and
send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
Now the
watchman standing on the tower in
Jezreel saw
Jehu’s troops approaching, and he called out, “I see a company of troops!” “Choose a rider,”
Joram commanded. “
Send him out to meet them and ask, ‘Have you come in peace?’”
Then he
sent out a second on
horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And
Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.
So the king
sent out a second
horseman, who went to them and said, “This is what the king asks: ‘Have you come in peace?’” “What do you know about peace?”
Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.”
And
Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And
Jehu wrote letters, and
sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of
Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up
Ahab’s children, saying,
Now
Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. So
Jehu wrote letters and
sent them to Samaria to the officials of
Jezreel, to the elders, and to the guardians of the sons of
Ahab, saying:
And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children,
sent to
Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt
bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
So the palace
administrator, the
overseer of the city, the elders, and the guardians
sent a message to
Jehu: “We are your servants, and we will do whatever you say. We will not make
anyone king. Do whatever is good in your sight.”
And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and
slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and
sent him them to
Jezreel.
And when the letter arrived, they took the sons of the king and slaughtered all seventy of them. They put their heads in baskets and
sent them to
Jehu at
Jezreel.
And
Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of
Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of
Baal; and the house of
Baal was full from one end to another.
Then
Jehu sent word throughout Israel, and all the servants of
Baal came; there was not a man who failed to show. They entered the temple of
Baal, and it was filled from end to end.
And the seventh year Jehoiada
sent and
fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shewed them the king’s son.
Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards, and had them brought into the house of the LORD. There he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son
And Jehoash king of Judah took all the
hallowed things that
Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and
Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own
hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king’s house, and
sent it to
Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.
So King
Joash of Judah took all the sacred objects dedicated by his fathers—
Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and
Ahaziah, the kings of Judah—along with his own consecrated items and all the gold found in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he
sent them to
Hazael king of
Aram. So
Hazael withdrew from Jerusalem.
Then
Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of
Jehoahaz son of
Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
Then
Amaziah sent messengers to the king of Israel Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz, the son of
Jehu. “Come, let us meet face to face,” he said.
