Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass,
that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the
skirt of him
that is a
Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard
that God is with you.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue will
tightly grasp the
robe of a
Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard
that God is with you.’”
And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he
that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and
Ekron as a Jebusite.
I will remove the blood from their mouths and the abominations from between their teeth. Then they too will become a
remnant for our God; they will become like a clan in Judah, and
Ekron will be like the Jebusites.
And I will
encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him
that passeth by, and because of him
that returneth: and no
oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.
But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of those who march to and
fro, and never again will an
oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch with My own eyes.
Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;
Return to your
stronghold, O prisoners of hope; even
today I declare
that I will restore to you double.
And the LORD their God shall save them in
that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an
ensign upon his land.
On
that day the LORD their God will save them as the flock of His people; for like jewels in a crown they will
sparkle over His land.
Whose possessors
slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they
that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own
shepherds pity them not.
whose buyers slaughter them without
remorse. Those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the LORD, for I am rich!’ Even their own
shepherds have no
compassion on them.
Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.
Then I said, “I will no longer
shepherd you. Let the dying die, and the perishing perish; and let those who remain
devour one another’s flesh.”
And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it
asunder,
that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.
Next I took my staff called Favor and cut it in two,
revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations.
And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
It was
revoked on
that day, and so the
afflicted of the flock who were watching me knew
that it was the word of the LORD.
And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the
potter: a goodly price
that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the
potter in the house of the LORD.
And the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the
potter”—this magnificent price at which they valued me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the
potter in the house of the LORD.
Then I cut
asunder mine other staff, even Bands,
that I might break the
brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
Then I cut in two my second staff called Union, breaking the
brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
For, lo, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those
that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor
heal that that is broken, nor feed
that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and
tear their claws in pieces.
For behold, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land who will neither care for the lost, nor seek the young, nor
heal the broken, nor
sustain the healthy, but he will
devour the flesh of the choice sheep and
tear off their
hooves.
Woe to the
idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly
darkened.
Woe to the worthless
shepherd, who deserts the flock! May a sword strike his arm and his right eye! May his arm be completely
withered and his right eye utterly blinded!”
And in
that day will I make Jerusalem a
burdensome stone for all people: all
that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
On
that day, when all the nations of the earth gather against her, I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who would
heave it away will be severely injured.
In
that day, saith the LORD, I will
smite every horse with
astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will
smite every horse of the people with blindness.
On
that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse with
panic, and every rider with madness. I will keep a watchful eye on the house of Judah, but I will strike with blindness all the horses of the nations.
In
that day will I make the governors of Judah like an
hearth of fire among the wood, and like a
torch of fire in a
sheaf; and they shall
devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.
On
that day I will make the clans of Judah like a
firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming
torch among the
sheaves; they will
consume all the peoples around them on the right and on the left, while the people of Jerusalem remain secure there.
The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first,
that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not
magnify themselves against Judah.
The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and of the people of Jerusalem may not be greater than that of Judah.
In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.
On that day the LORD will defend the people of Jerusalem, so that the weakest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the LORD going before them.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
So on that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall
mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one
that is in bitterness for his
firstborn.
Then I will pour out on the house of David and on the people of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and prayer, and they will look on Me, the One they have pierced. They will
mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child, and
grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a
firstborn son.
In
that day shall there be a great
mourning in Jerusalem, as the
mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.
All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.
and all the remaining clans and their wives.
In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
“On
that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the people of Jerusalem, to
cleanse them from sin and impurity.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.
And on
that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will
erase the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will also remove the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.
And it shall come to pass,
that when any shall yet
prophesy, then his father and his mother
that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother
that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.
And if
anyone still prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You shall not remain alive, because you have spoken falsely in the name of the LORD.’ When he prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will
pierce him through.
And it shall come to pass in
that day,
that the prophets shall be
ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath
prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to
deceive:
And on
that day every prophet who prophesies will be
ashamed of his vision, and he will not put on a
hairy cloak in order to
deceive.
Awake, O sword, against my
shepherd, and against the man
that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts:
smite the
shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
Awake, O sword, against My
Shepherd, against the man who is My Companion, declares the LORD of Hosts. Strike the
Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn My hand against the little ones.
And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
And in all the land, declares the LORD, two-thirds will be cut off and perish, but a third will be left in it.
And his feet shall stand in
that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall
cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half the mountain moving to the north and half to the south.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
On
that day there will be no light, no cold or
frost.
But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
It will be a day known only to the LORD, without day or night; but when evening comes, there will be light.
And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
And on that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it toward the Eastern Sea and the other half toward the Western Sea, in summer and winter alike.
And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
On that day the LORD will become King over all the earth—the LORD alone, and His name alone.
And this shall be the plague
wherewith the LORD will
smite all the people
that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall
consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall
consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall
consume away in their mouth.
And this will be the plague with which the LORD strikes all the peoples who have
warred against Jerusalem: Their flesh will
rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will
rot in their sockets, and their tongues will
rot in their mouths.
And it shall come to pass in
that day,
that a great
tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
On
that day a great
panic from the LORD will come upon them, so
that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of one will rise against the other.
And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the
mule, of the
camel, and of the
ass, and of all the beasts
that shall be in these tents, as this plague.
And a similar plague will strike the horses and mules, camels and
donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.
And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
Then all the survivors from the nations
that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, and to
celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
And it shall be,
that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
And should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, then the rain will not fall on them.
And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not,
that have no rain; there shall be the plague,
wherewith the LORD will
smite the heathen
that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
And if the people of Egypt will not go up and enter in, then the rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations who do not go up to
celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
This will be the punishment of Egypt and of all the nations
that do not go up to
celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
In
that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses,
HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD’S house shall be like the
bowls before the altar.
On
that day, HOLY TO THE LORD will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the
cooking pots in the house of the LORD will be like the
sprinkling bowls before the altar.
Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be
holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they
that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and
seethe therein: and in
that day there shall be no more the
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
Indeed, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the LORD of Hosts, and all who sacrifice will come and take some pots and
cook in them. And on
that day there will no longer be a
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of Hosts.
A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests,
that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we
despised thy name?
“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. But if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is your fear of Me?” says the LORD of Hosts to you priests who
despise My name. “But you ask, ‘How have we
despised Your name?’
Ye offer
polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we
polluted thee? In
that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
By presenting
defiled food on My altar. But you ask, ‘How have we
defiled You?’ By saying
that the table of the LORD is contemptible.
And now, I pray you,
beseech God
that he will be
gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
“But ask now for God’s favor. Will He be
gracious? Since this has come from your hands, will He show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
Who is there even among you
that would shut the doors for
nought? neither do ye
kindle fire on mine altar for
nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
“Oh,
that one of you would shut the temple doors, so
that you would no longer
kindle useless fires on My altar! I take no pleasure in you,” says the LORD of Hosts, “and I will accept no offering from your hands.
But ye have
profaned it, in
that ye say, The table of the LORD is
polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.
“But you
profane it when you say, ‘The table of the Lord is
defiled, and as for its fruit, its food is contemptible.’
Ye said also, Behold, what a
weariness is it! and ye have
snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought
that which was
torn, and the
lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
You also say: ‘Oh, what a
nuisance!’ And you turn up your nose at it,” says the LORD of Hosts. “You bring offerings
that are
stolen,
lame, or sick! Should I accept these from your hands?” asks the LORD.
And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
Then you will know that I have sent you this commandment so that My covenant with Levi may continue,” says the LORD of Hosts.
The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.
As for the man who does this, may the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob
everyone who is
awake and aware—even if he brings an offering to the LORD of Hosts.
And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping, and with crying out,
insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.
And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping and
groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or receives them
gladly from your hands.
And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one?
That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take
heed to your spirit, and let none deal
treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit? And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard
yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.
For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith
that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take
heed to your spirit,
that ye deal not
treacherously.
“For I
hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “He who divorces his wife covers his garment with violence,” says the LORD of Hosts. So guard
yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith.
Ye have
wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we
wearied him? When ye say, Every one
that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?
You have
wearied the LORD with your words; yet you ask, “How have we
wearied Him?” By saying, “All who do evil are good in the sight of the LORD, and in them He delights,” or, “Where is the God of justice?”
And he shall sit as a refiner and
purifier of silver: and he shall
purify the sons of Levi, and
purge them as gold and silver,
that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
And He will sit as a refiner and
purifier of silver; He will
purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver. Then they will present offerings to the LORD in righteousness.
And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those
that oppress the
hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and
that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. And I will be a swift witness against sorcerers and adulterers and perjurers, against oppressors of the widowed and fatherless, and against those who
defraud laborers of their wages and deny justice to the foreigner but do not fear Me,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Bring ye all the
tithes into the
storehouse,
that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now
herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing,
that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Bring the full
tithe into the
storehouse, so
that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.
And I will
rebuke the
devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
I will
rebuke the
devourer for you, so
that it will not destroy the fruits of your land, and the vine in your field will not fail to produce fruit,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it
that we have kept his
ordinance, and
that we have walked
mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
You have said, ‘It is
futile to serve God. What have we gained by keeping His requirements and walking
mournfully before the LORD of Hosts?
And now we call the proud happy;
yea, they
that work wickedness are set up;
yea, they
that tempt God are even delivered.
So now we call the
arrogant blessed. Not only do evildoers
prosper, they even test God and escape.’”
Then they
that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD
hearkened, and heard it, and a book of
remembrance was written before him for them
that feared the LORD, and
that thought upon his name.
At
that time those who feared the LORD spoke with one another, and the LORD
listened and heard them. So a
scroll of
remembrance was written before Him regarding those who feared the LORD and honored His name.
And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in
that day when I make up my jewels; and I will
spare them, as a man spareth his own son
that serveth him.
“They will be Mine,” says the LORD of Hosts, “on the day when I prepare My
treasured possession. And I will
spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.
Then shall ye return, and
discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him
that serveth God and him
that serveth him not.
So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”
For, behold, the day cometh,
that shall burn as an
oven; and all the proud,
yea, and all
that do wickedly, shall be
stubble: and the day
that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts,
that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
“For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the
arrogant and every
evildoer will be
stubble; the day is coming when I will set them
ablaze,” says the LORD of Hosts. “Not a root or branch will be left to them.”
But unto you
that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with
healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as
calves of the
stall.
“But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with
healing in its wings, and you will go out and
leap like
calves from the
stall.
And ye shall
tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day
that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
Then you will
trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the LORD of Hosts.
And
Jesse begat David the king; and David the king
begat Solomon of her
that had been the wife of Urias;
and
Jesse the father of David the king. Next: David was the father of Solomon by Uriah’s wife,
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
But after he had
pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
All this took place to
fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
And thou
Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor,
that shall rule my people Israel.
‘But you,
Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will be the
shepherd of My people Israel.’”
And he sent them to
Bethlehem, and said, Go and search
diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again,
that I may come and worship him also.
And sending them to
Bethlehem, he said: “Go and search carefully for the Child, and when you find Him, report to me, so
that I too may go and worship Him.”
And being
warned of God in a dream
that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
And having been
warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another route.
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
Then Herod, when he saw
that he was
mocked of the wise men, was exceeding
wroth, and sent forth, and
slew all the children
that were in
Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had
diligently enquired of the wise men.
When Herod saw
that he had been outwitted by the
Magi, he was filled with
rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in
Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the
Magi.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
Then what was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:
But when he heard
that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being
warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of
Galilee:
But when he learned
that Archelaus was reigning in
Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And having been
warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of
Galilee,
And he came and dwelt in a city called
Nazareth:
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a
Nazarene.
and he went and lived in a town called
Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a
Nazarene.”
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’”
And think not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you,
that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
And do not
presume to say to
yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you
that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
And now also the
axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is
hewn down, and cast into the fire.
The
axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree
that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
I indeed
baptize you with water unto
repentance: but he
that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose
shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall
baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
I
baptize you with water for
repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose
sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
And when the
tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command
that these stones be made bread.
The
tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast
thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou
dash thy foot against a stone.
“If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw
Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so
that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
Now when Jesus had heard
that John was cast into prison, he departed into
Galilee;
When Jesus heard
that John had been imprisoned, He withdrew to
Galilee.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
From
that time Jesus began to
preach, and to say,
Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
From
that time on Jesus began to
preach, “
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people
that were taken with
divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those
that had the
palsy; and he
healed them.
News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering acute pain, the
demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the
paralyzed—and He
healed them.
And there followed him great multitudes of people from
Galilee, and from
Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
The large crowds
that followed Him came from
Galilee, the
Decapolis, Jerusalem,
Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
Blessed are they
that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are those who
mourn, for they will be comforted.
Ye are the light of the world. A city
that is set on an hill cannot be
hid.
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do men light a
candle, and put it under a
bushel, but on a
candlestick; and it giveth light unto all
that are in the house.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a
basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to
everyone in the house.
Let your light so
shine before men,
that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven.
In the same way, let your light
shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds and
glorify your Father in heaven.
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Do not think
that I have come to
abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to
abolish them, but to
fulfill them.
For I say unto you,
That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the
scribes and
Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
For I tell you
that unless your righteousness exceeds
that of the
scribes and
Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Ye have heard
that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and
whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
You have heard
that it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not murder’ and ‘
Anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’
But I say unto you,
That whosoever is
angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and
whosoever shall say to his brother,
Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but
whosoever shall say, Thou
fool, shall be in danger of
hell fire.
But I tell you
that anyone who is
angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again,
anyone who says to his brother, ‘
Raca,’ will be subject to the
Sanhedrin. But
anyone who says, ‘You
fool!’ will be subject to the fire of
hell.
