Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well
with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also know that it will go well
with those who fear God, who are
reverent in His presence.
But it shall not be well
with the wicked, neither shall he
prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well
with them, and their days will not
lengthen like a shadow.
Then I
commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be
merry: for that shall
abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
So I
commended the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be
merry. For this joy will
accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.
When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night
seeth sleep
with his eyes:)
When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the task that one performs on the earth—though his eyes do not see sleep in the day or even in the night—
Go thy way, eat thy bread
with joy, and drink thy wine
with a
merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
Go, eat your bread
with joy, and drink your wine
with a
cheerful heart, for God has already approved your works:
Live
joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Enjoy life with your beloved wife all the days of the fleeting life that God has given you under the sun—all your fleeting days. For this is your portion in life and in your labor under the sun.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it
with thy might; for there is no work, nor
device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave,
whither thou goest.
Whatever you find to do
with your hands, do it
with all your might, for in
Sheol, where you are going, there is no work or
planning or knowledge or wisdom.
There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
There was a small city with few men. A mighty king came against it, surrounded it, and built large siege ramps against it.
If the
snake bites before it is charmed, there is no profit for the charmer.
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the
womb of her that is
with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s
womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.
In the morning
sow thy seed, and in the evening
withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall
prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
Sow your seed in the morning, and do not rest your hands in the evening, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or if both will equally
prosper.
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, along with every hidden thing, whether good or evil.
Let him
kiss me
with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.
Let him
kiss me
with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is more delightful than wine.
Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be
glad and
rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.
Take me away
with you—let us
hurry! May the king bring me to his chambers. We will
rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. It is only right that they
adore you.
Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were
angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own
vineyard have I not kept.
Do not
stare because I am dark, for the sun has
gazed upon me. My mother’s sons were
angry with me; they made me a keeper of the vineyards, but my own
vineyard I have neglected.
Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.
Your cheeks are beautiful with ornaments, your neck with strings of jewels.
We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.
We will make you ornaments of gold,
studded with beads of silver.
As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love.
My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
My beloved calls to me, “Arise, my
darling. Come away
with me, my beautiful one.
The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines
with the tender
grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.
The fig tree ripens its figs; the
blossoming vines spread their
fragrance. Arise, come away, my
darling; come away
with me, my beautiful one.”
Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke,
perfumed with myrrh and
frankincense,
with all powders of the merchant?
Who is this coming up from the wilderness like a column of smoke,
scented with myrrh and
frankincense from all the spices of the merchant?
They all hold swords, being
expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his
thigh because of fear in the night.
All are skilled with the sword, experienced in warfare. Each has his sword at his side prepared for the terror of the night.
He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being
paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.
He has made its posts of silver, its base of gold, its seat of purple
fabric. Its interior is inlaid
with love by the daughters of Jerusalem.
Go forth, O ye daughters of
Zion, and behold king Solomon
with the crown
wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his
espousals, and in the day of the
gladness of his heart.
Come out, O daughters of
Zion, and
gaze at King Solomon, wearing the crown his mother bestowed on the day of his
wedding— the day of his heart’s
rejoicing.
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes
within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount
Gilead.
How beautiful you are, my
darling— how very beautiful! Your eyes are like doves behind your
veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats streaming down Mount
Gilead.
Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a
pomegranate within thy locks.
Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury,
whereon there
hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.
Your neck is like the tower of David, built
with rows of stones; on it
hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors.
Come
with me from
Lebanon, my
spouse,
with me from
Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and
Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.
Come
with me from
Lebanon, my
bride, come
with me from
Lebanon! Descend from the
peak of Amana, from the summits of Senir and
Hermon, from the dens of the lions, from the mountains of the leopards.
Thou hast
ravished my heart, my sister, my
spouse; thou hast
ravished my heart
with one of thine eyes,
with one chain of thy neck.
You have captured my heart, my sister, my
bride; you have
stolen my heart
with one
glance of your eyes,
with one
jewel of your neck.
Your branches are an
orchard of pomegranates
with the choicest of fruits,
with henna and
nard,
I am come into my garden, my sister, my
spouse: I have gathered my
myrrh with my
spice; I have eaten my
honeycomb with my honey; I have
drunk my wine
with my milk: eat, O friends; drink,
yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.
I have come to my garden, my sister, my
bride; I have gathered my
myrrh with my
spice. I have eaten my
honeycomb with my honey; I have
drunk my wine
with my milk. Eat, O friends, and drink; drink freely, O beloved.
I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my
dove, my
undefiled: for my head is filled
with dew, and my locks
with the drops of the night.
I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped
with myrrh, and my fingers
with sweet smelling
myrrh, upon the handles of the
lock.
I rose up to open for my beloved. My hands
dripped with myrrh, my fingers
with flowing
myrrh on the handles of the
bolt.
I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.
I opened for my beloved, but he had turned and gone. My heart
sank at his departure. I sought him, but did not find him. I called, but he did not answer.
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.
O daughters of Jerusalem, I
adjure you, if you find my beloved, tell him I am sick
with love.
His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set.
His eyes are like doves beside the streams of water, bathed in milk and mounted like jewels.
His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like
lilies,
dropping sweet smelling
myrrh.
His hands are as gold rings set
with the
beryl: his
belly is as bright ivory overlaid
with sapphires.
His arms are rods of gold set
with beryl. His body is an ivory
panel bedecked with sapphires.
Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women?
whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him
with thee.
Where has your beloved gone, O most beautiful among women? Which way has he turned? We will seek him with you.
Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.
You are as beautiful, my
darling, as Tirzah, as lovely as Jerusalem, as
majestic as troops
with banners.
As a piece of a
pomegranate are thy temples
within thy locks.
There are sixty queens and eighty concubines, and maidens without number,
Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?
Who is this who shines like the
dawn, as fair as the moon, as bright as the sun, as
majestic as the stars in
procession?
How beautiful are thy feet
with shoes, O prince’s daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a
cunning workman.
How beautiful are your
sandaled feet, O daughter of the prince! The curves of your thighs are like jewels, the
handiwork of a master.
How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!
How fair and pleasant you are, O love, with your delights!
O that thou
wert as my brother, that
sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee
without, I would
kiss thee;
yea, I should not be
despised.
O that you were to me like a brother who
nursed at my mother’s breasts! If I found you outdoors, I would
kiss you, and no one would
despise me.
If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her
with boards of
cedar.
If she is a wall, we will build a tower of silver upon her. If she is a door, we will
enclose her
with panels of
cedar.
Ah sinful nation, a people
laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have
forsaken the LORD, they have
provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
Alas, O sinful nation, a people
laden with iniquity, a
brood of evildoers, children of
depravity! They have
forsaken the LORD; they have
despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on Him.
From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither
mollified with ointment.
From the sole of your foot to the top of your head, there is no soundness— only wounds and welts and
festering sores neither
cleansed nor
bandaged nor
soothed with oil.
Your country is
desolate, your cities are burned
with fire: your land, strangers
devour it in your presence, and it is
desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an
abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of
assemblies, I cannot away
with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
Bring your worthless offerings no more; your incense is
detestable to Me— your New Moons, Sabbaths, and convocations. I cannot
endure iniquity in a solemn assembly.
And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you:
yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you multiply your prayers, I will not
listen. Your hands are covered
with blood.
But if ye refuse and
rebel, ye shall be
devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
But if you resist and
rebel, you will be
devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
How is the faithful city become an
harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness
lodged in it; but now murderers.
See how the faithful city has become a
harlot! She once was full of justice; righteousness resided
within her, but now only murderers!
Thy silver is become
dross, thy wine mixed
with water:
Your silver has become
dross; your fine wine is
diluted with water.
Zion shall be redeemed
with judgment, and her converts
with righteousness.
Zion will be redeemed
with justice, her
repentant ones
with righteousness.
For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
For you will become like an oak whose leaves are
withered, like a garden
without water.
And the strong shall be as
tow, and the maker of it as a
spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall
quench them.
The strong man will become
tinder and his work will be a
spark; both will burn together,
with no one to
quench the flames.
Therefore thou hast
forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be
replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.
For You have abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled with influences from the east; they are soothsayers like the Philistines; they strike hands with the children of foreigners.
Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their
chariots:
Their land is full of silver and gold,
with no limit to their treasures; their land is full of horses,
with no limit to their
chariots.
When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:
A man will seize his brother
within his father’s house: “You have a
cloak—you be our leader! Take charge of this
heap of
rubble.”
The
shew of their countenance
doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as
Sodom, they hide it not.
Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
The expression on their faces testifies against them, and like
Sodom they
flaunt their sin; they do not
conceal it.
Woe to them, for they have brought
disaster upon themselves.
Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their labor.
Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill
with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
Woe to the wicked;
disaster is upon them! For they will be repaid
with what their hands have done.
The LORD will enter into judgment
with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the
vineyard; the
spoil of the poor is in your houses.
The LORD brings this charge against the elders and leaders of His people: “You have
devoured the
vineyard; the
plunder of the poor is in your houses.
Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of
Zion are
haughty, and walk
with stretched forth necks and
wanton eyes, walking and
mincing as they go, and making a
tinkling with their feet:
Therefore the LORD will
smite with a
scab the crown of the head of the daughters of
Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.
the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the daughters of
Zion, and the LORD will make their foreheads bare.”
And he
fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it
with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
He
dug it up and cleared the stones and planted the finest vines. He built a
watchtower in the middle and
dug out a winepress as well. He waited for the
vineyard to yield good grapes, but the fruit it produced was
sour!
In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be
desolate, even great and fair,
without inhabitant.
I heard the LORD of Hosts declare: “Surely many houses will become
desolate, great mansions left unoccupied.
Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are
famished, and their multitude dried up
with thirst.
Therefore
hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth
without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their
pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.
Therefore
Sheol enlarges its throat and opens wide its enormous jaws, and down go
Zion’s nobles and masses, her revelers and carousers!
Woe unto them that draw iniquity
with cords of vanity, and sin as it were
with a
cart rope:
Woe to those who draw iniquity
with cords of
deceit and pull sin along
with cart ropes,
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness to light and light to darkness, who replace bitter
with sweet and sweet
with bitter.
And he will lift up an
ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come
with speed swiftly:
He lifts a
banner for the distant nations and whistles for those at the ends of the earth. Behold—how speedily and swiftly they come!
Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings;
with twain he covered his face, and
with twain he covered his feet, and
with twain he did fly.
Above Him stood
seraphim, each having six wings:
With two wings they covered their faces,
with two they covered their feet, and
with two they were flying.
And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that
cried, and the house was filled
with smoke.
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds
shook, and the temple was filled
with smoke.
Then
flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken
with the
tongs from off the altar:
And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin
purged.
And
with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is
atoned for.”
Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see
with their eyes, and hear
with their ears, and understand
with their heart, and convert, and be
healed.
Make the hearts of this people calloused;
deafen their ears and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see
with their eyes, hear
with their ears, understand
with their hearts, and turn and be
healed.”
Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted
without inhabitant, and the houses
without man, and the land be utterly
desolate,
Then I asked: “How long, O Lord?” And He replied: “Until the cities lie ruined and
without inhabitant, until the houses are left unoccupied and the land is
desolate and
ravaged,
And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is
confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved
with the wind.
When it was reported to the house of David that
Aram was in league
with Ephraim, the hearts of
Ahaz and his people
trembled like trees in the forest
shaken by the wind.
Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet
Ahaz, thou, and
Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the
conduit of the upper
pool in the
highway of the fuller’s field;
Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out
with your son
Shear-jashub to meet
Ahaz at the end of the
aqueduct that feeds the upper
pool, on the road to the
Launderer’s Field,
And say unto him, Take
heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be
fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin
with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
and say to him: Calm down and be quiet. Do not be afraid or
disheartened over these two
smoldering stubs of
firewood—over the fierce anger of Rezin and
Aram and of the son of Remaliah.
Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
For
Aram, along
with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has
plotted your ruin, saying:
For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and
within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.
For the head of
Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin.
Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be
shattered as a people.
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be
with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him
Immanuel.
In the same day shall the Lord
shave with a
razor that is
hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also
consume the
beard.
On that day the Lord will use a
razor hired from beyond the Euphrates—the king of Assyria—to
shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to remove your
beard as well.
With arrows and with bows shall men come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns.
Men will go there
with bow and
arrow, for the land will be covered
with briers and thorns.
And on all hills that shall be
digged with the
mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the
treading of lesser cattle.
For fear of the briers and thorns, you will no longer
traverse the hills once tilled by the
hoe; they will become places for oxen to
graze and sheep to
trample.
Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it
with a man’s pen concerning Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
Then the LORD said to me, “Take a large
scroll and write on it
with an ordinary
stylus: Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
And I took unto me faithful
witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and
Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
And I went unto the
prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
And I had relations
with the
prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. The LORD said to me, “Name him Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
Take counsel together, and it shall come to
nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is
with us.
Devise a plan, but it will be
thwarted; state a proposal, but it will not happen. For God is
with us.”
For the LORD spake thus to me
with a strong hand, and
instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
For this is what the LORD has spoken to me
with a strong hand,
instructing me not to walk in the way of this people:
For every battle of the
warrior is
with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be
with burning and fuel of fire.
For every
trampling boot of battle and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and
sustain it
with justice and righteousness from that time and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will
accomplish this.
And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and
stoutness of heart,
All the people will know it— Ephraim and the dwellers of Samaria.
With pride and
arrogance of heart they will say:
