The word which Jeremiah the prophet
commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with
Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.
This is the message that Jeremiah the prophet gave to the
quartermaster Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with King
Zedekiah of Judah in the fourth year of
Zedekiah’s reign.
The
adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou
didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
The
adversary has seized all her treasures. For she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary— those You had forbidden to enter Your assembly.
Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath
commanded concerning Jacob, that his
adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a
menstruous woman among them.
Zion stretches out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The LORD has decreed against Jacob that his neighbors become his foes. Jerusalem has become an unclean thing among them.
The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against His
command.
Listen, all you people; look upon my suffering. My young men and maidens have gone into captivity.
The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had
commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not
pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to
rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine
adversaries.
The LORD has done what He
planned; He has accomplished His decree, which He ordained in days of old; He has overthrown you without
pity. He has let the enemy
gloat over you and
exalted the horn of your foes.
Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?
Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has ordained it?
And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the
inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast
commanded me.
Then the man clothed in linen with the writing
kit at his side reported back, “I have done as You
commanded.”
And it came to pass, that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels.
When the LORD
commanded the man clothed in linen, saying, “Take fire from within the
wheelwork, from among the
cherubim,” the man went in and stood beside a wheel.
And I did so as I was
commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for captivity, and in the even I
digged through the wall with mine hand; I brought it forth in the
twilight, and I bare it upon my shoulder in their sight.
So I did as I was
commanded. I brought out my bags for exile by day, and in the evening I
dug through the wall by hand. I took my belongings out at
dusk, carrying them on my shoulder as they watched.
Which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men,
horsemen riding upon horses.
clothed in blue, governors and
commanders, all desirable young men,
horsemen mounted on steeds.
She
doted upon the Assyrians her neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most
gorgeously,
horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.
She too
lusted after the Assyrians—governors and
commanders, warriors dressed in
splendor,
horsemen riding on steeds, all desirable young men.
The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and
renowned, all of them riding upon horses.
the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, the men of Pekod, Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them—all desirable young men, governors and
commanders, officers and men of
renown, mounted on horses.
So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.
So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. And the next morning I did as I had been commanded.
So I
prophesied as I was
commanded: and as I
prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a
shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.
So I
prophesied as I had been
commanded. And as I
prophesied, there was suddenly a noise, a
rattling, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
So I
prophesied as he
commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.
So I
prophesied as He had
commanded me, and the breath entered them, and they came to life and stood on their feet—a vast army.
Then the king
commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to
shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
So the king gave orders to
summon the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers to explain his dreams. When they came and stood before the king,
For this cause the king was
angry and very
furious, and
commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
This
response made the king so
furious with anger that he gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to
slay the wise men of Babylon:
When Arioch, the
commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to
execute the wise men of Babylon, Daniel replied with
discretion and
tact.
Then the king
Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and
commanded that they should offer an
oblation and sweet odours unto him.
At this, King
Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, paid
homage to Daniel, and ordered that an offering of incense be presented to him.
Then an
herald cried aloud, To you it is
commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
Then the
herald loudly proclaimed, “O people of every nation and language, this is what you are
commanded:
Then was
Nebuchadnezzar full of
fury, and the form of his
visage was changed against
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and
commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was
wont to be heated.
At this,
Nebuchadnezzar was filled with
rage, and the expression on his face changed toward
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego. He gave orders to heat the furnace seven times hotter than usual,
And he
commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning
fiery furnace.
Therefore because the king’s
commandment was
urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire
slew those men that took up
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego.
The king’s
command was so
urgent and the furnace so hot that the
fiery flames killed the men who carried up
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego.
Then
Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
Nebuchadnezzar declared, “Blessed be the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him. They
violated the king’s
command and risked their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.
And whereas they
commanded to leave the
stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.
As for the
command to leave the
stump of the tree with its roots, your kingdom will be restored to you as soon as you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine,
commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father
Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
Under the influence of the wine,
Belshazzar gave orders to bring in the gold and silver vessels that
Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king could drink from them, along with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines.
Then
commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a
proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Then
Belshazzar gave the
command, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a gold chain around his neck, and proclaimed him the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the den of lions. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!”
Then was the king exceeding
glad for him, and
commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of
hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den, and when Daniel was lifted out of the den, no wounds
whatsoever were found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
And the king
commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the
mastery of them, and
brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
At the
command of the king, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought and thrown into the den of lions—they and their children and wives. And before they had reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and
crushed all their bones.
And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and
dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his
commandments;
And I prayed to the LORD my God and
confessed, “O, Lord, the great and
awesome God, who keeps His covenant of loving devotion to those who love Him and keep His
commandments,
We have
sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
we have
sinned and done wrong. We have acted wickedly and rebelled. We have turned away from Your
commandments and ordinances.
At the beginning of thy supplications the
commandment came forth, and I am come to
shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.
At the beginning of your petitions, an answer went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are highly precious. So consider the message and understand the vision:
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the
commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the
Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and
threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in
troublous times.
Know and understand this: From the
issuance of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until the
Messiah, the Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be rebuilt with streets and a
trench, but in times of distress.
And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
The king of the South will grow strong, but one of his commanders will grow even stronger and will rule his own kingdom with great authority.
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.
Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will put an end to his reproach and will turn it back upon him.
Ephraim is
oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the
commandment.
Ephraim is
oppressed,
crushed in judgment, for he is determined to follow worthless idols.
And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can
abide it?
The LORD raises His voice in the presence of His army. Indeed, His camp is very large, for mighty are those who obey His
command. For the Day of the LORD is great and very
dreadful. Who can
endure it?
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his
commandments, and their lies caused them to
err, after the which their fathers have walked:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Judah, even four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they
reject the Law of the LORD and fail to keep His statutes; they are led
astray by the lies in which their fathers walked.
But ye gave the
Nazarites wine to drink; and
commanded the prophets, saying,
Prophesy not.
“But you made the Nazirites drink wine and
commanded the prophets not to
prophesy.
For, behold, the LORD
commandeth, and he will
smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
For the LORD gives a
command: “The great house will be
smashed to pieces, and the small house to
rubble.”
And though they hide themselves in the top of
Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be
hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I
command the serpent, and he shall
bite them:
Though they hide themselves
atop Carmel, there I will
track them and seize them; and though they hide from Me at the bottom of the sea, there I will
command the serpent to
bite them.
And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I
command the sword, and it shall
slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.
Though they are driven by their enemies into captivity, there I will
command the sword to
slay them. I will fix My eyes upon them for
harm and not for good.”
For, lo, I will
command, and I will
sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is
sifted in a
sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.
“For surely I will give the
command, and I will
shake the house of Israel among all the nations as grain is
sifted in a
sieve; but not a
pebble will reach the ground.
And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it
vomited out
Jonah upon the dry land.
And the LORD hath given a
commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the
graven image and the
molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art
vile.
The LORD has issued a
command concerning you, O
Nineveh: “There will be no descendants to carry on your name. I will cut off the carved image and cast
idol from the house of your gods; I will prepare your grave, for you are contemptible.”
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
But did not My words and My statutes, which I
commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your fathers? They
repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and deeds, so He has done to us.’”
And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.
“And now this decree is for you, O priests:
And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
Then you will know that I have sent you this commandment so that My covenant with Levi may continue,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I
commanded unto him in
Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
“Remember the law of My servant Moses, the statutes and ordinances I
commanded him for all Israel at
Horeb.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had
bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
When Joseph
woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had
commanded him, and embraced Mary as his wife.
And when the
tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God,
command that these stones be made bread.
The
tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast
thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou
dash thy foot against a stone.
“If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw
Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will
command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least
commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but
whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
So then,
whoever breaks one of the least of these
commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but
whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses
commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Then Jesus
instructed him, “See that you don’t tell
anyone. But go, show
yourself to the priest and offer the gift prescribed by Moses, as a testimony to them.”
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
When Jesus saw a large crowd around Him, He gave orders to cross to the other side of the sea.
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and
commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the
Samaritans enter ye not:
These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go
onto the road of the Gentiles or enter any town of the
Samaritans.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of
commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to
preach in their cities.
After Jesus had finished
instructing His twelve disciples, He went on from there to teach and
preach in their cities.
And the king was
sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he
commanded it to be given her.
The king was
grieved, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered that her wish be granted
And he
commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five
loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and
brake, and gave the
loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
And He directed the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five
loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He spoke a blessing. Then He broke the
loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou,
bid me come unto thee on the water.
“Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.”
But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also
transgress the
commandment of God by your tradition?
Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘
Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’
And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you
nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’”
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
And He
instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground.
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus
commanded them, “Do not tell
anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
But
forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord
commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Since the man was unable to pay, the master ordered that he be sold to pay his debt, along with his wife and children and everything he owned.
They say unto him, Why did Moses then
command to give a writing of
divorcement, and to put her away?
“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses order a man to give his wife a
certificate of
divorce and send her away?”
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou
wilt enter into life, keep the
commandments.
“Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
So the disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
“Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law?”
This is the first and great commandment.
This is the first and greatest commandment.
On these two
commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
All the Law and the Prophets
hang on these two
commandments.”
And gave them for the
potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
and they gave them for the
potter’s field, as the Lord had
commanded me.”
He went to
Pilate, and
begged the body of Jesus. Then
Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
He went to
Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus, and
Pilate ordered that it be given to him.
Command therefore that the
sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and
steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
So give the order that the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and
steal Him away and tell the people He has risen from the dead. And this last
deception would be worse than the first.”
Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have
commanded you: and, lo, I am with you
alway, even unto the end of the world.
Amen.
and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
And they were all
amazed,
insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority
commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
All the people were
amazed and began to ask one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He
commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him!”
And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy
cleansing those things which Moses
commanded, for a testimony unto them.
“See that you don’t tell
anyone. But go, show
yourself to the priest and present the offering Moses prescribed for your
cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
And he arose, and
rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Then Jesus got up and
rebuked the wind and the sea. “Silence!” He
commanded. “Be still!” And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm.
And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
Then Jesus gave strict orders that no one should know about this, and He told them to give her something to eat.
And
commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no
scrip, no bread, no money in their
purse:
He
instructed them to take nothing but a staff for the journey—no bread, no
bag, no money in their belts—
And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his
birthday made a
supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of
Galilee;
On Herod’s
birthday, her opportunity arose. Herod held a
banquet for his nobles and military
commanders and the leading men of
Galilee.
And immediately the king sent an executioner, and
commanded his head to be brought: and he went and
beheaded him in the prison,
So without delay, the king
commanded that John’s head be brought in. He sent an executioner, who went and
beheaded him in the prison.
And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
Then Jesus directed them to have the people sit in groups on the green grass.
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the
commandments of men.
They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
You have disregarded the commandment of God to keep the tradition of men.”
And he said unto them, Full well ye
reject the
commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
He went on to say, “You
neatly set aside the
command of God to maintain your own tradition.
And he
commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven
loaves, and gave
thanks, and
brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
And He
instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then He took the seven
loaves, gave
thanks and broke them, and gave them to His disciples to set before the people. And they distributed them to the crowd.
And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
They also had a few small fish, and Jesus blessed them and ordered that these be set before them as well.
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he
rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou
dumb and
deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He
rebuked the unclean spirit. “You
deaf and
mute spirit,” He said, “I
command you to come out and never enter him again.”
And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
“What did Moses command you?” He replied.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this
precept.
But Jesus told them, “Moses wrote this commandment for you because of your hardness of heart.
Thou knowest the
commandments, Do not commit
adultery, Do not kill, Do not
steal, Do not bear false witness,
Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
You know the
commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit
adultery, do not
steal, do not bear false witness, do not
cheat others, honor your father and mother.’”
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man. “Take courage!” they said. “Get up! He is calling for you.”
And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
The disciples answered as Jesus had
instructed them, and the people gave them permission.
And one of the
scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first
commandment of all?
Now one of the
scribes had come up and heard their
debate. Noticing how well Jesus had answered them, he asked Him, “Which
commandment is the most important of all?”
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Jesus replied, “This is the most important: ‘Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.
