Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants,
condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and
justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has
done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and
done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and
glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had
done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
On the
fifteenth day Solomon sent the people away. So they blessed the king and went home, joyful and
glad in heart for all the good things that the LORD had
done for His servant David and for His people Israel.
And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be
astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD
done thus unto this land, and to this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and will hiss and say, ‘Why has the LORD
done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon,
Forasmuch as this is
done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely
rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
Then the LORD said to Solomon, “Because you have
done this and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will
tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
Because that they have
forsaken me, and have worshipped
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of
Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.
For they have
forsaken Me to worship
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the
Ammonites. They have not walked in My ways, nor
done what is right in My eyes, nor kept My statutes and judgments, as Solomon’s father David did.
Now there dwelt an old prophet in
Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had
done that day in
Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
Now a certain old prophet was living in
Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the deeds that the man of God had
done that day in
Bethel. They also told their father the words that the man had spoken to the king.
And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had
drunk, that he
saddled for him the
ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
And after the man of God had finished eating and drinking, the old prophet who had brought him back
saddled the
donkey for him.
And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and
slew him: and his
carcase was cast in the way, and the
ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the
carcase.
As he went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body was left lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it.
and he went and found the body lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had not eaten the body or
mauled the
donkey.
And the prophet took up the
carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the
ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to
mourn and to
bury him.
So the old prophet lifted up the body of the man of God, laid it on the
donkey, and brought it back to his own city to
mourn for him and
bury him.
But hast
done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and
molten images, to
provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:
You have
done more evil than all who came before you. You have proceeded to make for
yourself other gods and
molten images to
provoke Me, and you have
flung Me behind your back.
And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they
provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had
done.
And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and by the sins they committed they
provoked Him to
jealous anger more than all their fathers had
done.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
And Abijam walked in all the sins that his father before him had committed, and his heart was not as fully devoted to the LORD his God as the heart of David his
forefather had been.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
And
Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father.
And
Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had
done.
And also by the hand of the prophet
Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against
Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in
provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of
Jeroboam; and because he killed him.
Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet
Jehu son of Hanani against
Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had
done in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands and becoming like the house of
Jeroboam, and also because
Baasha had struck down the house of
Jeroboam.
And she said unto
Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to
remembrance, and to
slay my son?
“O man of God,” said the woman to
Elijah, “what have you
done to me? Have you come to remind me of my iniquity and cause the death of my son?”
And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have
done all these things at thy word.
At the time of the evening sacrifice,
Elijah the prophet approached the altar and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and have
done all these things at Your command.
Now
Ahab told
Jezebel everything that
Elijah had
done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
And he left the oxen, and ran after
Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee,
kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I
done to thee?
So
Elisha left the oxen, ran after
Elijah, and said, “Please let me
kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will follow you.” “Go on back,”
Elijah replied, “for what have I
done to you?”
For he served
Baal, and worshipped him, and
provoked to anger the LORD God of Israel, according to all that his father had
done.
Ahaziah served and worshiped
Baal,
provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger, just as his father had
done.
And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of
Baal that his father had made.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as his father and mother had
done. He removed the sacred
pillar of
Baal that his father had made.
And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
and
Elisha said to Gehazi, “Now tell her, ‘Look, you have gone to all this trouble for us. What can we do for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’” “I have a home among my own people,” she replied.
And he said, What then is to be
done for her? And Gehazi answered,
Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.
So he asked, “Then what should be done for her?” “Well, she has no son,” Gehazi replied, “and her husband is old.”
And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the
asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
And the woman called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and one of the
donkeys, that I may go quickly to the man of God and return.”
Then she
saddled an
ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward;
slack not thy riding for me, except I
bid thee.
And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had
bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have
done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?
Naaman’s servants, however, approached him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have
done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be
cleansed’?”
And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an
ass’s head was sold for
fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a
cab of
dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
So there was a great famine in Samaria. Indeed, they besieged the city so long that a
donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter
cab of
dove’s dung sold for five shekels of silver.
Wherefore they arose and fled in the
twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their
asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses
tied, and
asses tied, and the tents as they were.
So they went and called out to the gatekeepers of the city, saying, “We went to the
Aramean camp and no one was there—not a trace—only
tethered horses and
donkeys, and the tents were
intact.”
And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now
shew you what the Syrians have
done to us. They know that we be
hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
So the king got up in the night and said to his servants, “Let me tell you what the Arameans have
done to us. They know we are
starving, so they have left the camp to hide in the field, thinking, ‘When they come out of the city, we will take them alive and enter the city.’”
And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that
Elisha hath
done.
Now the king had been speaking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please relate to me all the great things
Elisha has
done.”
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of
Ahab: for the daughter of
Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.
And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of
Ahab had
done. For he married a daughter of
Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD.
Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spake concerning the house of
Ahab: for the LORD hath
done that which he spake by his servant
Elijah.
Know, then, that not a word the LORD has spoken against the house of
Ahab will fail, for the LORD has
done what He promised through His servant
Elijah.”
And the LORD said unto
Jehu, Because thou hast
done well in
executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast
done unto the house of
Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
Nevertheless, the LORD said to
Jehu, “Because you have
done well in carrying out what is right in My sight and have
done to the house of
Ahab all that was in My heart, four generations of your sons will sit on the throne of Israel.”
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as
Joash his father did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not as his father David had
done. He did everything as his father
Joash had
done.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father
Amaziah had
done;
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father
Amaziah had
done.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had
done: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had
done. He did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Uzziah had done.
And the king of Assyria found
conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had
done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea had
conspired to send envoys to King So of Egypt, and that he had not paid tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years. Therefore the king of Assyria arrested Hoshea and put him in prison.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
And
Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to
Lachish, saying, I have
offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
So
Hezekiah king of Judah sent word to the king of Assyria at
Lachish, saying, “I have
done wrong; withdraw from me, and I will pay whatever you demand from me.” And the king of Assyria exacted from
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have
done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
Hast thou not heard long ago how I have
done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste
fenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
I
beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have
done that which is good in thy sight. And
Hezekiah wept sore.
“Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have
done what was good in Your sight.” And
Hezekiah wept bitterly.
For he built up again the high places which
Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for
Baal, and made a
grove, as did
Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father
Hezekiah had destroyed, and he raised up altars for
Baal. He made an Asherah pole, as King
Ahab of Israel had
done, and he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
Because
Manasseh king of Judah hath
done these abominations, and hath
done wickedly above all that the
Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:
“Since
Manasseh king of Judah has committed all these abominations, acting more wickedly than the
Amorites who preceded him, and with his idols has caused Judah to sin,
Because they have
done that which was evil in my sight, and have
provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.
because they have
done evil in My sight and have
provoked Me to anger from the day their fathers came out of Egypt until this day.’”
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh did.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh had
done.
Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the
sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast
done against the altar of
Bethel.
Then the king asked, “What is this monument I see?” And the men of the city replied, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and pronounced these things that you have
done to the altar of
Bethel.”
And all the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to
provoke the LORD to anger,
Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had
done in
Bethel.
Just as
Josiah had
done at
Bethel, so also in the cities of Samaria he removed all the shrines of the high places set up by the kings of Israel who had
provoked the LORD to anger.
Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath,
wherewith his anger was
kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that
Manasseh had
provoked him
withal.
Nevertheless, the LORD did not turn away from the
fury of His burning anger, which was
kindled against Judah because of all that
Manasseh had
done to
provoke Him to anger.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his fathers had done.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his fathers had done.
Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of
Manasseh, according to all that he did;
Surely this happened to Judah at the LORD’s command, to remove them from His presence because of the sins of
Manasseh and all that he had
done,
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his father had done.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that
Jehoiakim had
done.
And they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of
asses two thousand, and of men an hundred thousand.
They seized the
livestock of the Hagrites—50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, and 2,000
donkeys. They also took 100,000
captives,
And when all
Jabesh-
gilead heard all that the Philistines had
done to Saul,
When the people of
Jabesh-
gilead heard about everything the Philistines had
done to Saul,
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a
valiant man of Kabzeel, who had
done many acts; he
slew two
lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and
slew a lion in a pit in a
snowy day.
And Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a man of
valor from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. He struck down two champions of Moab, and on a
snowy day he went down into a pit and killed a lion.
Moreover they that were
nigh them, even unto
Issachar and
Zebulun and
Naphtali, brought bread on
asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of
raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: for there was joy in Israel.
And their neighbors from as far away as
Issachar,
Zebulun, and
Naphtali came bringing food on
donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen—abundant supplies of flour, fig cakes and
raisin cakes, wine and oil, oxen and sheep. Indeed, there was joy in Israel.
Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
Remember the wonders He has done, His marvels, and the judgments He has pronounced,
And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will
subdue all thine enemies.
Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.
and have
done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. And I will
subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you.
O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
O LORD. For the sake of Your servant and according to Your own heart, You have accomplished this great thing and revealed all Your greatness.
And David said unto God, I have
sinned greatly, because I have
done this thing: but now, I
beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have
done very
foolishly.
Then David said to God, “I have
sinned greatly because I have
done this thing. Now I
beg You to take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very
foolishly.”
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and
done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they
done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they
done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
Over the camels also was Obil the
Ishmaelite: and over the
asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite:
Obil the
Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the
donkeys.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I will establish his kingdom
forever, if he
resolutely carries out My commandments and ordinances, as is being
done this day.’
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to
consecrate his service this day unto the LORD?
But the LORD said to David my father,
Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou
didst well in that it was in thine heart:
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by
recompensing his way upon his own head; and by
justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has
done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
Yet if they
bethink themselves in the land
whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have
done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and
done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
And on the three and
twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents,
glad and
merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.
On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people away to their homes, joyful and
glad of heart for the good things that the LORD had
done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.
And this house, which is high, shall be an
astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD
done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and say, ‘Why has the LORD
done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is
done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the words of the LORD and turned back from going against
Jeroboam.
For the eyes of the LORD run to and
fro throughout the whole earth, to
shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.
Herein thou hast
done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
For the eyes of the LORD
roam to and
fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him. You have acted
foolishly in this matter. From now on, therefore, you will be at war.”
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of
Ahab: for he had the daughter of
Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.
And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of
Ahab had
done. For he married a daughter of
Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD.
And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of
sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of
Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as the house of
Ahab had
done, for to his destruction they were his counselors after the death of his father.
And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
And Jehoiada was buried with the kings in the City of David, because he had done what was good in Israel for God and His temple.
Thus
Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had
done to him, but
slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
Thus King
Joash failed to remember the kindness that
Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him. Instead,
Joash killed Jehoiada’s son. As he lay dying,
Zechariah said, “May the LORD see this and call you to account.”
And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel?
forbear; why shouldest thou be
smitten? Then the prophet
forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast
done this, and hast not
hearkened unto my counsel.
While he was still speaking, the king asked, “Have we made you the
counselor to the king? Stop! Why be struck down?” So the prophet stopped, but he said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have
done this and have not
heeded my advice.”
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father
Amaziah did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father
Amaziah had
done.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did:
howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD. And the people did yet corruptly.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Uzziah had
done. In addition, he did not enter the temple of the LORD. But the people still
behaved corruptly.
And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the
captives, and with the
spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and
arrayed them, and
shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and
anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon
asses, and brought them to
Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
Then the men who were designated by name arose, took charge of the
captives, and provided from the
plunder clothing for the naked. They clothed them, gave them
sandals and food and drink,
anointed their wounds, and put all the feeble on
donkeys. So they brought them to
Jericho, the City of Palms, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and
done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
And
Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: for the thing was
done suddenly.
Then
Hezekiah and all the people
rejoiced at what God had prepared for the people, because everything had been accomplished so quickly.
So they established a decree to make
proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan, that they should come to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not
done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.
So they established a decree to
circulate a
proclamation throughout Israel, from
Beersheba to
Dan, that the people should come to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel, in Jerusalem. For they had not observed it as a nation as prescribed.
Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?
Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Have the gods of these nations ever been able to deliver their land from my hand?
But
Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit
done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
But because his heart was proud,
Hezekiah did not repay the favor shown to him. Therefore wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to
enquire of the wonder that was
done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
And so when ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone to test him, that He might know all that was in
Hezekiah’s heart.
But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did
Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which
Manasseh his father had made, and served them;
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh had
done. Amon served and sacrificed to all the idols that his father
Manasseh had made,
And humbled not himself before the LORD, as
Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon
trespassed more and more.
but he did not humble himself before the LORD as his father
Manasseh had
done; instead, Amon increased his guilt.
Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for
passover offerings five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen.
Additionally, Conaniah and his brothers Shemaiah and Nethanel, as well as Hashabiah, Jeiel, and Jozabad, officers of the Levites,
donated to the Levites 5,000
Passover offerings and 500 bulls.
Their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their
asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.
And the God that hath caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall put to their hand to alter and to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I
Darius have made a decree; let it be
done with speed.
May God, who has caused His Name to dwell there, overthrow any king or people who lifts a hand to alter this decree or to destroy this house of God in Jerusalem. I,
Darius, have issued the decree. Let it be carried out with
diligence.
