Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
This is an evil among all things that are
done under the sun, that there is one event unto all:
yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
This is an evil in everything that is
done under the sun: There is one fate for
everyone.
Furthermore, the hearts of men are full of evil and madness while they are alive, and afterward they join the dead.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their
envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is
done under the sun.
Their love, their
hate, and their
envy have already
vanished, and they will never again have a share in all that is
done under the sun.
The ox knoweth his owner, and the
ass his master’s
crib: but Israel
doth not know, my people
doth not consider.
The ox knows its owner, and the
donkey its master’s
manger, but Israel does not know; My people do not understand.”
Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
Woe to the wicked;
disaster is upon them! For they will be repaid with what their hands have
done.
What could have been
done more to my
vineyard, that I have not
done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
What more could I have
done for My
vineyard than I already did for it? Why, when I expected sweet grapes, did it bring forth
sour fruit?
Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
and as I have done to Samaria and its idols, will I not also do to Jerusalem and her idols?”
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have
done it, and by my wisdom; for I am
prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have
robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a
valiant man:
For he says: ‘By the strength of my hand I have
done this, and by my wisdom, for I am
clever. I have removed the boundaries of nations and
plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their rulers.
Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, for He has done glorious things. Let this be known in all the earth.
When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the
shaking of an olive tree, and as the
gleaning grapes when the
vintage is
done.
So will it be on the earth and among the nations, like a harvested olive tree, like a
gleaning after a
grape harvest.
O LORD, thou art my God; I will
exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast
done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
O LORD, You are my God! I will
exalt You; I will praise Your name. For You have worked wonders— plans formed long ago— in perfect faithfulness.
LORD, thou
wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.
O LORD, You will establish peace for us. For all that we have accomplished, You have done for us.
The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and
anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the
viper and
fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young
asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.
This is the burden against the beasts of the Negev: Through a land of
hardship and distress, of
lioness and lion, of
viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of
donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people of no profit to them.
Because the palaces shall be
forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild
asses, a pasture of flocks;
Blessed are ye that
sow beside all waters, that send forth thither the feet of the ox and the
ass.
Blessed are those who
sow beside abundant waters, who let the ox and
donkey range freely.
Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might.
You who are far off, hear what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge My might.”
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have
done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have
done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
And said, Remember now, O LORD, I
beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have
done that which is good in thy sight. And
Hezekiah wept sore.
saying, “Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have
done what was good in Your sight.” And
Hezekiah wept bitterly.
What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
What can I say? He has spoken to me, and He Himself has
done this. I will walk slowly all my years because of the
anguish of my soul.
Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Who has performed this and carried it out, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD—the first and the last— I am He.”
That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
so that all may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this and the Holy One of Israel has created it.”
Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath
done it:
shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and
glorified himself in Israel.
Sing for joy, O heavens, for the LORD has
done this;
shout aloud, O depths of the earth. Break forth in song, O mountains, you forests and all your trees. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and revealed His glory in Israel.
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
I declare the end from the beginning, and ancient times from what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and all My good pleasure I will
accomplish.’
I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine
idol hath
done them, and my
graven image, and my
molten image, hath commanded them.
Therefore I declared it to you long ago; I
announced it before it came to pass, so that you could not claim, ‘My
idol has
done this; my carved image and
molten god has ordained it.’
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had
done no violence, neither was any
deceit in his mouth.
He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in His death, although He had
done no violence, nor was any
deceit in His mouth.
I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his
mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
I will make known the LORD’s loving devotion and His
praiseworthy acts, because of all that the LORD has
done for us— the many good things for the house of Israel according to His great
compassion and loving devotion.
How canst thou say, I am not
polluted, I have not gone after
Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast
done: thou art a swift
dromedary traversing her ways;
“How can you say, ‘I am not
defiled; I have not run after the Baals’? Look at your
behavior in the valley; acknowledge what you have
done. You are a swift young she-
camel galloping here and there,
A wild
ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
a wild
donkey at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the heat of her desire. Who can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will find her.
Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.
Will He be
angry forever? Will He be
indignant to the end?’ This you have spoken, but you keep doing all the evil you can.”
The LORD said also unto me in the days of
Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which
backsliding Israel hath
done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the
harlot.
Now in the days of King
Josiah, the LORD said to me, “Have you seen what faithless Israel has
done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every green tree to
prostitute herself there.
And I said after she had
done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her
treacherous sister Judah saw it.
I thought that after she had done all these things, she would return to Me. But she did not return, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
“In those days, when you multiply and increase in the land,” declares the LORD, “they will no longer
discuss the ark of the covenant of the LORD. It will never come to mind, and no one will remember it or miss it, nor will another one be made.
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
The prophets are but wind, for the word is not in them. So let their own predictions
befall them.”
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have
forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
And when the people ask, ‘For what
offense has the LORD our God
done all these things to us?’ You are to tell them, ‘Just as you have
forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your land, so will you serve foreigners in a land that is not your own.’”
And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
And now, because you have
done all these things, declares the LORD, and because I have spoken to you again and again but you would not
listen, and I have called to you but you would not answer,
Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have
done to
Shiloh.
therefore what I did to
Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears My Name, the house in which you trust, the place that I gave to you and your fathers.
For the children of Judah have
done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to
pollute it.
For the people of Judah have
done evil in My sight, declares the LORD. They have set up their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
I
hearkened and heard, but they spake not
aright: no man
repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I
done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
I have
listened and heard; they do not speak what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, asking, ‘What have I
done?’
Everyone has pursued his own course like a horse charging into battle.
For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have
done against themselves to
provoke me to anger in offering incense unto
Baal.
The LORD of Hosts, who planted you, has decreed
disaster against you on account of the evil that the house of Israel and the house of Judah have brought upon themselves,
provoking Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal.”
Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every
bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every
bottle shall be filled with wine?
Therefore you are to tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Every wineskin shall be filled with wine.’ And when they reply, ‘Don’t we surely know that every wineskin should be filled with wine?’
And the wild
asses did stand in the high places, they
snuffed up the wind like
dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
Wild
donkeys stand on barren heights; they
pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail for lack of pasture.”
Are there any among the
vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
Can the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the
skies alone send showers? Is this not by You, O LORD our God? So we put our hope in You, for You have
done all these things.
And ye have
done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not
hearken unto me:
And you have
done more evil than your fathers. See how each of you follows the
stubbornness of his evil heart instead of obeying Me.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath
done a very
horrible thing.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard things like these? Virgin Israel has done a most terrible thing.
And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?
And many nations will pass by this city and ask one another, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?’
He shall be buried with the burial of an
ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
He will be buried like a
donkey,
dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.
Why criest thou for thine
affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have
done these things unto thee.
Why do you cry out over your wound? Your pain has no cure! Because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins I have done these things to you.
The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.
The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this.
Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: “Only if the heavens above could be measured and the foundations of the earth below searched out would I
reject all of Israel’s descendants because of all they have
done,” declares the LORD.
And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:
They came in and possessed it, but they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your law. They failed to perform all that You commanded them to do, and so You have brought upon them all this
disaster.
For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only
done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only
provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.
For the children of Israel and of Judah have
done nothing but evil in My sight from their youth; indeed, they have
done nothing but
provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the LORD.
Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have
done to
provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
because of all the evil the children of Israel and of Judah have
done to
provoke Me to anger—they, their kings, their officials, their priests and prophets, the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem.
And ye were now turned, and had
done right in my sight, in
proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Recently you
repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his
neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.
But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
But we have lived in tents and have obeyed and
done exactly as our
forefather Jonadab commanded us.
And Jeremiah said unto the house of the
Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and
done according unto all that he hath commanded you:
Then Jeremiah said to the house of the
Rechabites: “This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Because you have obeyed the command of your
forefather Jonadab and have kept all his commandments and have
done all that he charged you to do,
My lord the king, these men have
done evil in all that they have
done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the
dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
“My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have
done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have dropped him into the
cistern, where he will
starve to death, for there is no more bread in the city.”
Now the LORD hath brought it, and
done according as he hath said: because ye have
sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.
and now the LORD has fulfilled it; He has
done just as He said. Because you people have
sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed His voice, this thing has happened to you.
But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had
done,
When Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him heard of all the crimes that
Ishmael son of Nethaniah had committed,
If ye will still
abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not
pluck you up: for I
repent me of the evil that I have
done unto you.
‘If you will indeed stay in this land, then I will build you up and not
tear you down; I will plant you and not
uproot you, for I will relent of the
disaster I have brought upon you.
Because of their wickedness which they have committed to
provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.
because of the evil they have
done. They
provoked Me to anger by continuing to burn incense and to serve other gods that neither they nor you nor your fathers ever knew.
But we will certainly do
whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have
done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we
plenty of
victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
Instead, we will do everything we
vowed to do: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and offer drink offerings to her, just as we, our fathers, our kings, and our officials did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had
plenty of food and good things, and we saw no
disaster.
O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and
espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is
done?
Stand by the road and watch, O dweller of Aroer! Ask the man
fleeing or the woman escaping, ‘What has happened?’
Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the
vengeance of the LORD: take
vengeance upon her; as she hath
done, do unto her.
Raise a war cry against her on every side! She has thrown up her hands in surrender; her towers have fallen; her walls are
torn down. Since this is the
vengeance of the LORD, take out your
vengeance upon her; as she has
done, do the same to her.
Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape:
recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath
done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
Summon the archers against Babylon, all who string the bow.
Encamp all around her; let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds; do to her as she has
done. For she has
defied the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the
watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and
done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.
Raise a
banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the
watchmen; prepare the
ambush. For the LORD has both devised and accomplished what He spoke against the people of Babylon.
And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of
Chaldea all their evil that they have
done in
Zion in your sight, saith the LORD.
Before your very eyes I will repay Babylon and all the dwellers of
Chaldea for all the evil they have
done in
Zion,” declares the LORD.
The violence
done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of
Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of
Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.
May the violence
done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon,” says the dweller of
Zion. “May my blood be on the dwellers of
Chaldea,” says Jerusalem.
And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that
Jehoiakim had
done.
Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is
done unto me,
wherewith the LORD hath
afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
Is this nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look around and see! Is there any sorrow like mine, which was inflicted on me, which the LORD made me suffer on the day of His fierce anger?
They have heard that I
sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that thou hast
done it: thou
wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
People have heard my
groaning, but there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that You have caused it. May You bring the day You have
announced, so that they may become like me.
Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast
done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is
faint.
Let all their wickedness come before You, and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions. For my groans are many, and my heart is
faint.
The LORD hath
done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not
pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to
rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine
adversaries.
The LORD has
done what He
planned; He has accomplished His decree, which He ordained in days of old; He has overthrown you without
pity. He has let the enemy
gloat over you and
exalted the horn of your foes.
Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
Look, O LORD, and consider: Whom have You ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring, the infants they have
nurtured? Should priests and prophets be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?
O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.
You have seen, O LORD, the wrong
done to me;
vindicate my cause!
Again, When a righteous man
doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath
done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Now if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will hold you responsible for his blood.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You have been more insubordinate than the nations around you; you have not walked in My statutes or kept My ordinances, nor have you even
conformed to the ordinances of the nations around you.’
And I will do in thee that which I have not
done, and
whereunto I will not do any more the like, because of all thine abominations.
Because of all your abominations, I will do to you what I have never done before and will never do again.
And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations
whither they shall be carried
captives, because I am broken with their
whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a
whoring after their idols: and they shall
lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.
Then in the nations to which they have been carried
captive, your survivors will remember Me—how I have been
grieved by their
adulterous hearts that turned away from Me, and by their eyes that
lusted after idols. So they will
loathe themselves for the evil they have
done and for all their abominations.
And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that
sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be
done in the midst thereof.
“Go throughout the city of Jerusalem,” said the LORD, “and put a mark on the foreheads of the men
sighing and
groaning over all the abominations committed there.”
And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the
inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have
done as thou hast commanded me.
Then the man clothed in linen with the writing
kit at his side reported back, “I have
done as You commanded.”
And ye shall know that I am the LORD: for ye have not walked in my statutes, neither executed my judgments, but have done after the manners of the heathen that are round about you.
Then you will know that I am the LORD. For you have neither followed My statutes nor practiced My ordinances, but you have
conformed to the ordinances of the nations around you.”
Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity.
You are to say, ‘I am a sign to you.’ Just as it happened here, so will it be
done to them; they will go into exile as
captives.
Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘None of My words will be delayed any longer. The message I speak will be fulfilled, declares the Lord GOD.’”
And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.
They will bring you
consolation when you see their conduct and actions, and you will know that it was not without cause that I have
done all these things within it,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor
done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou
wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.
And you not only walked in their ways and practiced their abominations, but soon you were more
depraved than they were.
As I live, saith the Lord GOD,
Sodom thy sister hath not
done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast
done, thou and thy daughters.
As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, your sister
Sodom and her daughters never did as you and your daughters have
done.
Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
Furthermore, Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have multiplied your abominations beyond theirs, and all the abominations you have committed have made your sisters appear righteous.
That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
So you will bear your disgrace and be
ashamed of all you did to comfort them.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even deal with thee as thou hast
done, which hast
despised the oath in breaking the covenant.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: I will deal with you according to your deeds, since you have
despised the oath by breaking the covenant.
That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am
pacified toward thee for all that thou hast
done, saith the Lord GOD.
so that when I make
atonement for all you have
done, you will remember and be
ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your disgrace, declares the Lord GOD.”
Seeing he
despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath
done all these things, he shall not escape.
He
despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Seeing that he gave his hand in
pledge yet did all these things, he will not escape!’
And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have
exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to
flourish: I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have
exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to
flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have
done it.
Then all the trees of the field will know that I am the LORD. I bring the tall tree down and make the low tree tall. I dry up the green tree and make the
withered tree
flourish. I, the LORD, have spoken, and I have
done it.’”
And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and
defiled his neighbour’s wife,
though the father has
done none of them: Indeed, the son eats at the mountain and defiles his
neighbor’s wife.
Hath given forth upon
usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath
done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
He engages in
usury and takes excess interest. Will this son live? He will not! Since he has committed all these abominations, he will surely die; his blood will be on his own head.
Now, lo, if he
beget a son, that
seeth all his father’s sins which he hath
done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
Now suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, considers them, and does not do likewise:
Yet say ye, Why?
doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath
done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath
done them, he shall surely live.
Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath
done shall not be mentioned: in his
trespass that he hath
trespassed, and in his sin that he hath
sinned, in them shall he die.
But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity,
committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
