Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:
When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I
ate no bread and
drank no water.
And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither
eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye
sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
Then I fell down before the LORD for forty days and forty nights, as I had done the first time. I did not
eat bread or drink water because of all the sin you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the LORD and
provoking Him to anger.
And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
And I will provide grass in the fields for your
livestock, and you will
eat and be satisfied.
And there ye shall
eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall
rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee.
There, in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your households shall
eat and
rejoice in all you do, because the LORD your God has blessed you.
Notwithstanding thou mayest kill and
eat flesh in all thy gates,
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may
eat thereof, as of the
roebuck, and as of the
hart.
But whenever you want, you may slaughter and
eat meat within any of your gates, according to the blessing the LORD your God has given you. Both the
ceremonially clean and unclean may
eat it as they would a
gazelle or deer,
Only ye shall not eat the blood; ye shall pour it upon the earth as water.
but you must not eat the blood; pour it on the ground like water.
Thou mayest not
eat within thy gates the
tithe of thy corn, or of thy wine, or of thy oil, or the firstlings of thy herds or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy
freewill offerings, or
heave offering of thine hand:
Within your gates you must not
eat the
tithe of your grain or new wine or oil, the
firstborn of your herds or flocks, any of the offerings that you have
vowed to give, or your
freewill offerings or special gifts.
But thou must
eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy
maidservant, and the
Levite that is within thy gates: and thou shalt
rejoice before the LORD thy God in all that thou puttest thine hands unto.
Instead, you must
eat them in the presence of the LORD your God at the place the LORD your God will choose—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite within your gates.
Rejoice before the LORD your God in all you do,
When the LORD thy God shall
enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will
eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to
eat flesh; thou mayest
eat flesh,
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
When the LORD your God expands your territory as He has promised, and you
crave meat and say, “I want to
eat meat,” you may
eat it whenever you want.
If the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to put his name there be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy
herd and of thy flock, which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt
eat in thy gates
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
If the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His Name is too far from you, then you may slaughter any of the
herd or flock He has given you, as I have commanded you, and you may
eat it within your gates whenever you want.
Even as the
roebuck and the
hart is
eaten, so thou shalt
eat them: the unclean and the clean shall
eat of them alike.
Indeed, you may
eat it as you would
eat a
gazelle or deer; both the
ceremonially unclean and the clean may
eat it.
Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh.
Only be sure not to eat the blood, because the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat.
Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it upon the earth as water.
You must not eat the blood; pour it on the ground like water.
Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
Do not eat it, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
And thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of the LORD thy God: and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh.
Present the meat and blood of your burnt offerings on the altar of the LORD your God. The blood of your other sacrifices must be poured out beside the altar of the LORD your God, but you may eat the meat.
These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,
These are the animals that you may eat: The ox, the sheep, the goat,
And every beast that parteth the
hoof, and cleaveth the
cleft into two claws, and cheweth the
cud among the beasts, that ye shall
eat.
You may
eat any animal that has a split
hoof divided in two and that chews the
cud.
Nevertheless these ye shall not
eat of them that
chew the
cud, or of them that divide the
cloven hoof; as the
camel, and the
hare, and the
coney: for they
chew the
cud, but divide not the
hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.
But of those that
chew the
cud or have a completely divided
hoof, you are not to
eat the following: the
camel, the
rabbit, or the rock
badger.
And the
swine, because it divideth the
hoof, yet cheweth not the
cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not
eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead
carcase.
Although they
chew the
cud, they do not have a divided
hoof. They are unclean for you, as well as the pig; though it has a divided
hoof, it does not
chew the
cud. It is unclean for you. You must not
eat its meat or touch its
carcass.
These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
Of all the creatures that live in the water, you may eat anything with fins and scales,
And
whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not
eat; it is unclean unto you.
but you may not eat anything that does not have fins and scales; it is unclean for you.
Of all clean birds ye shall eat.
You may eat any clean bird,
But these are they of which ye shall not
eat: the eagle, and
ossifrage, and the
ospray,
And every
creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be
eaten.
All flying insects are unclean for you; they may not be eaten.
But of all clean fowls ye may eat.
But you may eat any clean bird.
Ye shall not
eat of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may
eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an
alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not
seethe a
kid in his mother’s milk.
You are not to
eat any
carcass; you may give it to the foreigner residing within your gates, and he may
eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. You must not
cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
And thou shalt
eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the
tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.
And you are to
eat a tenth of your grain, new wine, and oil, and the
firstborn of your herds and flocks, in the presence of the LORD your God at the place He will choose as a dwelling for His Name, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.
And thou shalt
bestow that money for
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for
whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt
eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt
rejoice, thou, and thine household,
Then you may
spend the money on anything you desire: cattle, sheep, wine, strong drink, or anything you wish. You are to feast there in the presence of the LORD your God and
rejoice with your household.
And the
Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall
eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
Then the
Levite (because he has no portion or inheritance among you), the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your gates may come and
eat and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all the work of your hands.
Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD shall choose, thou and thy household.
Each year you and your household are to eat it before the LORD your God in the place the LORD will choose.
Thou shalt
eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall
eat it alike, as the
roebuck, and as the
hart.
Eat it within your gates; both the
ceremonially unclean and clean may
eat it as they would a
gazelle or a deer.
Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
But you must not eat the blood; pour it on the ground like water.
Thou shalt
eat no
leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou
eat unleavened bread
therewith, even the bread of
affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in
haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
You must not
eat leavened bread with it; for seven days you are to
eat with it
unleavened bread, the bread of
affliction, because you left the land of Egypt in
haste—so that you may remember for the rest of your life the day you left the land of Egypt.
And thou shalt
roast and
eat it in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents.
And you shall
roast it and
eat it in the place the LORD your God will choose, and in the morning you shall return to your tents.
Six days thou shalt
eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work therein.
For six days you must
eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day you shall hold a solemn assembly to the LORD your God, and you must not do any work.
The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.
The
Levitical priests—indeed the whole tribe of Levi—shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel. They are to
eat the offerings made by fire to the LORD; that is their inheritance.
They shall have like portions to
eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his
patrimony.
They shall eat equal portions, even though he has received money from the sale of his father’s estate.
And what man is he that hath planted a
vineyard, and hath not yet
eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man
eat of it.
Has any man planted a
vineyard and not begun to enjoy its fruit? Let him return home, or he may die in battle and another man enjoy its fruit.
But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the
spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto
thyself; and thou shalt
eat the
spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.
But the women, children,
livestock, and whatever else is in the city—all its
spoil—you may take as
plunder, and you shall use the
spoil of your enemies that the LORD your God gives you.
When thou shalt
besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an
axe against them: for thou mayest
eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:
When you lay siege to a city for an extended time while fighting against it to capture it, you must not destroy its trees by putting an
axe to them, because you can
eat their fruit. You must not cut them down. Are the trees of the field human, that you should
besiege them?
When thou comest into thy neighbour’s
vineyard, then thou mayest
eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.
When you enter your
neighbor’s
vineyard, you may
eat your fill of grapes, but you must not put any in your
basket.
When thou hast made an end of
tithing all the
tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of
tithing, and hast given it unto the
Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may
eat within thy gates, and be filled;
When you have finished laying aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the
tithe, you are to give it to the
Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may
eat and be filled within your gates.
I have not
eaten thereof in my
mourning, neither have I taken away ought thereof for any unclean use, nor given ought thereof for the dead: but I have
hearkened to the voice of the LORD my God, and have done according to all that thou hast commanded me.
I have not
eaten any of the sacred portion while in
mourning, or removed any of it while unclean, or offered any of it for the dead. I have obeyed the LORD my God; I have done everything You commanded me.
And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt
eat there, and
rejoice before the LORD thy God.
There you are to sacrifice your peace offerings,
eating them and
rejoicing in the presence of the LORD your God.
Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not
eat thereof: thine
ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to
rescue them.
Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not
eat any of it. Your
donkey will be taken away and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will save you.
The fruit of thy land, and all thy labours, shall a nation which thou knowest not
eat up; and thou shalt be only
oppressed and
crushed alway:
A people you do not know will
eat the produce of your land and of all your
toil. All your days you will be
oppressed and
crushed.
Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them.
You will plant and
cultivate vineyards, but will neither drink the wine nor gather the grapes, because worms will
eat them.
And he shall
eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy
kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee.
They will
eat the offspring of your
livestock and the produce of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain or new wine or oil, no
calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks, until they have caused you to perish.
And thou shalt
eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness,
wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
Then you will
eat the fruit of your
womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you.
So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall
eat: because he hath nothing left him in the siege, and in the straitness,
wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.
refusing to share with any of them the flesh of his children he will
eat because he has nothing left in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you within all your gates.
And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall
eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness,
wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
the
afterbirth that comes from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly
eat them for lack of anything else in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you within your gates.
Ye have not
eaten bread, neither have ye
drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.
You
ate no bread and
drank no wine or strong drink, so that you might know that I am the LORD your God.
For when I shall have brought them into the land which I
sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have
eaten and filled themselves, and
waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and
provoke me, and break my covenant.
When I have brought them into the land that I
swore to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey, they will
eat their fill and
prosper. Then they will turn to other gods and worship them, and they will
reject Me and break My covenant.
He made him
ride on the high places of the earth, that he might
eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to
suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the
flinty rock;
He made him
ride on the heights of the land and fed him the produce of the field. He
nourished him with honey from the rock and oil from the
flinty crag,
Which did
eat the fat of their sacrifices, and
drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.
which
ate the fat of their sacrifices and
drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you; let them give you shelter!
And the
manna ceased on the
morrow after they had
eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel
manna any more; but they did
eat of the fruit of the land of
Canaan that year.
And the day after they had
eaten from the produce of the land, the
manna ceased. There was no more
manna for the Israelites, so that year they began to
eat the crops of the land of
Canaan.
And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
So I gave you a land on which you did not
toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and
eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’
And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and
trode the grapes, and made
merry, and went into the house of their god, and did
eat and drink, and
cursed Abimelech.
And after they had gone out into the fields, gathered grapes from their vineyards, and
trodden them, they held a festival and went into the house of their god; and as they
ate and
drank, they
cursed Abimelech.
Now therefore
beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and
eat not any unclean thing:
Now please be careful not to drink wine or strong drink, and not to eat anything unclean.
But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither
eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a
Nazarite to God from the
womb to the day of his death.
But he said to me, ‘Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son. Now, therefore, do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not
eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a
Nazirite to God from the
womb until the day of his death.’”
She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.
She must not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor drink any wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her.”
And the angel of the LORD said unto
Manoah, Though thou
detain me, I will not
eat of thy bread: and if thou
wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For
Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.
And the angel of the LORD replied, “Even if I stay, I will not
eat your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD.” For
Manoah did not know that it was the angel of the LORD.
And he took thereof in his hands, and went on
eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did
eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the
carcase of the lion.
So he
scooped some honey into his hands and
ate it as he went along. And when he returned to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they
ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion’s
carcass.
And he said unto them, Out of the
eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days
expound the
riddle.
So he said to them: “Out of the
eater came something to
eat, and out of the strong came something sweet.” For three days they were unable to explain the
riddle.
And his father in law, the
damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did
eat and drink, and
lodged there.
His father-in-law, the
girl’s father, persuaded him to stay, so he remained with him three days,
eating, drinking, and
lodging there.
And they sat down, and did
eat and drink both of them together: for the
damsel’s father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and
tarry all night, and let thine heart be
merry.
So they sat down and the two of them
ate and
drank together. Then the
girl’s father said to the man, “Please agree to stay overnight and let your heart be
merry.”
And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the
damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they
tarried until
afternoon, and they did
eat both of them.
On the fifth day, he got up early in the morning to depart, but the
girl’s father said, “Please refresh your heart.” So they waited until late
afternoon and the two of them
ate.
So he brought him into his house, and gave
provender unto the
asses: and they washed their feet, and did
eat and drink.
So he brought him to his house and fed his
donkeys. And they washed their feet and
ate and
drank.
And Boaz said unto her, At
mealtime come thou
hither, and
eat of the bread, and dip thy
morsel in the
vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her
parched corn, and she did
eat, and was sufficed, and left.
At
mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here; have some bread and dip it into the
vinegar sauce.” So she sat down beside the harvesters, and he offered her
roasted grain, and she
ate and was satisfied and had some left over.
Wash
thyself therefore, and
anoint thee, and put thy
raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not
thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done
eating and drinking.
Therefore wash
yourself, put on
perfume, and wear your best clothes. Go down to the
threshing floor, but do not let the man know you are there until he has finished
eating and drinking.
And when Boaz had
eaten and
drunk, and his heart was
merry, he went to lie down at the end of the
heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
After Boaz had finished
eating and drinking and was in good spirits, he went to lie down at the end of the
heap of grain. Then
Ruth went in secretly, uncovered his feet, and lay down.
And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she
provoked her; therefore she
wept, and did not
eat.
And this went on year after year. Whenever
Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival
taunted her until she
wept and would not
eat.
Then said Elkanah her husband to her,
Hannah, why weepest thou? and why
eatest thou not? and why is thy heart
grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
“
Hannah, why are you crying?” her husband Elkanah asked. “Why won’t you
eat? Why is your heart so
grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
So
Hannah rose up after they had
eaten in
Shiloh, and after they had
drunk. Now
Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.
So after they had finished
eating and drinking in
Shiloh,
Hannah stood up. Now
Eli the priest was sitting on a chair by the
doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
And she said, Let thine
handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did
eat, and her countenance was no more
sad.
“May your
maidservant find favor with you,” said
Hannah. Then she went on her way, and she began
eating again, and her face was no longer
downcast.
And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and
crouch to him for a piece of silver and a
morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices, that I may
eat a piece of bread.
And
everyone left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a
morsel of bread,
pleading, “Please
appoint me to some priestly office so that I can
eat a piece of bread.”’”
As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall
straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to
eat: for the people will not
eat until he come, because he
doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they
eat that be
bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him.
As soon as you enter the city, you will find him before he goes up to the high place to
eat. The people will not
eat until he comes, because he must
bless the sacrifice; after that, the guests will
eat. Go up at once; you will find him.”
And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the
seer: go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall
eat with me to day, and to
morrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
“I am the
seer,” Samuel replied. “Go up before me to the high place, for you shall
eat with me
today. And when I send you off in the morning, I will tell you all that is in your heart.
And the
cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left! set it before thee, and
eat: for unto this time hath it been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did
eat with Samuel that day.
So the
cook picked up the leg and what was attached to it and set it before Saul. Then Samuel said, “Here is what was kept back. It was set apart for you.
Eat, for it has been kept for you for this occasion, from the time I said, ‘I have invited the people.’” So Saul
dined with Samuel that day.
And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had
adjured the people, saying,
Cursed be the man that
eateth any food until evening, that I may be
avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.
Now the men of Israel were in distress that day, for Saul had placed the troops under an oath, saying, “
Cursed is the man who
eats any food before evening, before I have taken
vengeance on my enemies.” So none of the troops tasted any food.
Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying,
Cursed be the man that
eateth any food this day. And the people were
faint.
Then one of the soldiers told him, “Your father bound the troops with a solemn oath, saying, ‘
Cursed is the man who
eats food
today.’ That is why the people are
faint.”
How much more, if
haply the people had
eaten freely to day of the
spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?
How much better it would have been if the troops had
eaten freely
today from the
plunder they took from their enemies! Would not the slaughter of the Philistines have been much greater?”
And the people
flew upon the
spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and
calves, and
slew them on the ground: and the people did
eat them with the blood.
So they
rushed greedily to the
plunder, taking sheep, cattle, and
calves. They slaughtered them on the ground and
ate meat with the blood still in it.
Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they
eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have
transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.
Then someone reported to Saul: “Look, the troops are
sinning against the LORD by
eating meat with the blood still in it.” “You have broken faith,” said Saul. “Roll a large stone over here at once.”
And Saul said,
Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me
hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and
slay them here, and
eat; and sin not against the LORD in
eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and
slew them there.
Then he said, “Go among the troops and tell them, ‘Each man must bring me his ox or his sheep, slaughter them in this place, and then
eat. Do not sin against the LORD by
eating meat with the blood still in it.’” So that night
everyone brought his ox and slaughtered it there.
And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Send and
fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come
hither.
And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,”
Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to
eat until he arrives.”
So David
hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to
eat meat.
So David
hid in the field, and when the New Moon had come, the king sat down to
eat.
So
Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did
eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was
grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.
Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger and did not
eat any food that second day of the month, for he was
grieved by his father’s shameful treatment of David.
Then Saul fell
straightway all along on the earth, and was
sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had
eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.
Immediately Saul fell flat on the ground,
terrified by the words of Samuel. And his strength was gone, because he had not
eaten anything all that day and night.
Now therefore, I pray thee,
hearken thou also unto the voice of thine
handmaid, and let me set a
morsel of bread before thee; and
eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.
Now please
listen to your servant and let me set a
morsel of bread before you so you may
eat and have the strength to go on your way.”
But he refused, and said, I will not
eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he
hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.
Saul refused, saying, “I will not
eat.” But his servants joined the woman in
urging him, and he
heeded their voice. He got up from the ground and sat on the bed.
And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.
She served it to Saul and his servants, and they
ate. And that night they got up and left.
And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;
Now his men found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David. They gave the man water to drink and food to eat—
And they gave him a piece of a
cake of figs, and two clusters of
raisins: and when he had
eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had
eaten no bread, nor
drunk any water, three days and three nights.
a piece of a fig
cake and two clusters of
raisins. So he
ate and was revived, for he had not had any food or water for three days and three nights.
And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth,
eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great
spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
So he led David down, and there were the
Amalekites spread out over all the land,
eating, drinking, and
celebrating the great amount of
plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and the land of Judah.
And when all the people came to cause David to
eat meat while it was yet day, David
sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.
Then all the people came and urged David to
eat something while it was still day, but David took an oath, saying, “May God
punish me, and ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!”
And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely
shew thee kindness for
Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt
eat bread at my table continually.
“Do not be afraid,” said David, “for surely I will show you kindness for the sake of your father
Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land of your
grandfather Saul, and you will always
eat at my table.”
Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to
eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall
eat bread
alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
You and your sons and servants are to work the ground for him and bring in the harvest, so that your master’s grandson may have food to eat. But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, is always to eat at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
