cried in the congregation.

weep.

heavily, as one that
mourneth for his mother.

paced about as for my friend or brother; I was bowed down with grief, like one

mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
For You are the God of my refuge. Why have You rejected me? Why must I walk in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?

mourn in my
complaint, and make a noise;

mourneth by reason of
affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.

weep, and a time to
laugh; a time to
mourn, and a time to dance;

laugh, a time to
mourn and a time to dance,
It is better to go to the house of
mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

mourning than a house of feasting, since death is the end of every man, and the living should take this to heart.

Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the
almond tree shall
flourish, and the
grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the
mourners go about the streets:
when men fear the heights and dangers of the road, when the
almond tree blossoms, the
grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper
berry shrivels— for then man goes to his eternal home and
mourners walk the streets.
And her gates shall
lament and
mourn; and she being
desolate shall sit upon the ground.

lament and
mourn; destitute, she will sit on the ground.

howl for Moab, every one shall
howl: for the foundations of Kir-hareseth shall ye
mourn; surely they are
stricken.

wail; let them

Moan for the
raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth, you who are utterly
stricken.
The fishers also shall
mourn, and all they that cast angle into the
brooks shall
lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall
languish.
Then the
fishermen will
mourn, all who cast a hook into the Nile will
lament, and those who spread nets on the waters will pine away.
The earth
mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the
haughty people of the earth do
languish.
The earth
mourns and
withers; the world languishes and fades; the
exalted of the earth waste away.
The new wine
mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do
sigh.
The new wine dries up, the vine
withers. All the merrymakers now
groan.
Yet I will distress
Ariel, and there shall be
heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as
Ariel.

gladness and joy; and sorrow and
mourning shall
flee away.
I have seen his ways, and will
heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his
mourners.
I have seen his ways, but I will
heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him and his
mourners,
We
roar all like bears, and
mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.
We all
growl like bears and
moan like doves. We hope for justice, but find none, for salvation, but it is far from us.
Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine
everlasting light, and the days of thy
mourning shall be ended.

everlasting light, and the days of your sorrow will cease.
To
proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of
vengeance of our God; to comfort all that
mourn;
to
proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of our God’s
vengeance, to comfort all who
mourn,
To
appoint unto them that
mourn in
Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for
mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of
heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be
glorified.
to
console the
mourners in
Zion— to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for
mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of
despair. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be
glorified.
Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be
glad with her, all ye that love her:
rejoice for joy with her, all ye that
mourn for her:
Be
glad for Jerusalem and
rejoice over her, all who love her.

mourn over her,
So put on
sackcloth,
mourn and
wail, for the fierce anger of the LORD has not turned away from us.”
For this shall the earth
mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not
repent, neither will I turn back from it.
Therefore the earth will
mourn and the heavens above will grow dark. I have spoken, I have
planned, and I will not relent or turn back.”
O daughter of my people, dress
yourselves in
sackcloth and roll in ashes.
Mourn with bitter
wailing, as you would for an only son, for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.
For the
hurt of the daughter of my people am I
hurt; I am black;
astonishment hath taken hold on me.
For the brokenness of the daughter of my people I am
crushed. I
mourn;
horror has gripped me.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the
mourning women, that they may come; and send for
cunning women, that they may come:
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Take note, and
summon the
wailing women; send for the most skillful among them.
How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
How long will the land
mourn and the grass of every field be
withered? Because of the evil of its residents, the animals and birds have been swept away, for the people have said, “He cannot see what our end will be.”
They have made it
desolate, and being
desolate it
mourneth unto me; the whole land is made
desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.
They have made it a
desolation;
desolate before Me, it
mourns. All the land is laid waste, but no man takes it to heart.
Judah
mourneth, and the gates thereof
languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
“Judah
mourns and her gates
languish. Her people
wail for the land, and a cry goes up from Jerusalem.
For who shall have
pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall
bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest?
Who will have
pity on you, O Jerusalem? Who will
mourn for you? Who will turn aside to ask about your
welfare?
They shall die of
grievous deaths; they shall not be
lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
“They will die from deadly diseases. They will not be
mourned or buried, but will lie like dung on the ground. They will be finished off by sword and famine, and their corpses will become food for the birds of the air and beasts of the earth.”
For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the house of
mourning, neither go to
lament nor
bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even lovingkindness and
mercies.
Indeed, this is what the LORD says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal. Do not go to
mourn or show sympathy, for I have removed from this people My peace, My loving devotion, and My
compassion,” declares the LORD.
Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men
lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves
bald for them:
“Both great and small will die in this land. They will not be buried or
mourned, nor will
anyone cut himself or
shave his head for them.
Neither shall men
tear themselves for them in
mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of
consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
No food will be offered to comfort those who
mourn the dead; not even a cup of
consolation will be given for the loss of a father or mother.
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: but
weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
Do not
weep for the dead king; do not
mourn his loss.
Weep bitterly for the one who is exiled, for he will never return to see his native land.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah; They shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah my brother! or,
Ah sister! they shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah lord! or,
Ah his glory!
Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah: “They will not
mourn for him: ‘
Alas, my brother!
Alas, my sister!’ They will not
mourn for him: ‘
Alas, my master!
Alas, his
splendor!’
For the land is full of adulterers; for because of
swearing the land
mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.
For the land is full of adulterers— because of the
curse, the land
mourns and the pastures of the wilderness have dried up— their course is evil and their power is misused.
And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be
lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.
Those slain by the LORD on that day will be spread from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be
mourned, gathered, or buried. They will be like dung lying on the ground.
Then shall the virgin
rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their
mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them
rejoice from their sorrow.
Then the maidens will
rejoice with dancing, young men and old as well. I will turn their
mourning into joy, and give them comfort and joy for their sorrow.
Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in
Ramah,
lamentation, and bitter
weeping;
Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.
This is what the LORD says: “A voice is heard in
Ramah,
mourning and great
weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”
