And they
set them up
Micah’s
graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in
Shiloh.
So they
set up for themselves
Micah’s
graven image, and it was there the whole time the house of God was in
Shiloh.
And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.
So they continued on their journey, and the sun set as they neared Gibeah in Benjamin.
And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an
ass, and the man rose up, and
gat him unto his place.
“Get up,” he told her. “Let us go.” But there was no
response. So the man put her on his
donkey and
set out for home.
And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.
The Israelites
set out, went up to
Bethel, and inquired of God, “Who of us shall go up first to fight against the Benjamites?” “Judah will be first,” the LORD replied.
And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and
encamped against Gibeah.
The next morning the Israelites set out and camped near Gibeah.
And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and
set their battle again in
array in the place where they put themselves in
array the first day.
But the
Israelite army took courage and again took their battle positions in the same place where they had
arrayed themselves on the first day.
And Israel set liers in wait round about Gibeah.
So Israel
set up an
ambush around Gibeah.
So the children of Benjamin saw that they were
smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had
set beside Gibeah.
Then the Benjamites realized they had been defeated. Now the men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin because they were relying on the
ambush they had
set against Gibeah.
And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and
smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of every city, as the beast, and all that came to hand: also they
set on fire all the cities that they came to.
And the men of Israel turned back against the other Benjamites and put to the sword all the cities, including the animals and everything else they found. And they burned down all the cities in their path.
And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.
The Benjamites did as
instructed and carried away the number of women they needed from the dancers they caught. They went back to their own inheritance, rebuilt their cities, and
settled in them.
And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife
Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
The man’s name was Elimelech, his wife’s name was
Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from
Bethlehem in Judah, and they entered the land of Moab and
settled there.
Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.
Accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road leading back to the land of Judah.
Then said Boaz unto his servant that was
set over the reapers, Whose
damsel is this?
And Boaz asked the
foreman of his harvesters, “Whose young woman is this?”
And the servant that was
set over the reapers answered and said, It is the
Moabitish damsel that came back with
Naomi out of the country of Moab:
He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the
beggar from the
dunghill, to
set them among princes, and to make them
inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath
set the world upon them.
He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the
needy from the ash
heap. He seats them among princes and bestows on them a throne of honor. For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s, and upon them He has
set the world.
When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of
Dagon, and
set it by
Dagon.
carried it into the temple of
Dagon, and
set it beside his statue.
And when they of
Ashdod arose early on the
morrow, behold,
Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took
Dagon, and
set him in his place again.
When the people of
Ashdod got up early the next morning, there was
Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD. So they took
Dagon and returned him to his place.
And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the
cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a
trespass offering, in a
coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.
Take the ark of the LORD,
set it on the
cart, and in a chest beside it put the gold objects you are sending Him as a guilt offering. Then send the ark on its way,
And the golden
mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of
fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of
Abel,
whereon they
set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Beth-
shemite.
The number of gold rats also corresponded to the number of
Philistine cities belonging to the five rulers—the fortified cities and their outlying villages. And the large rock on which they placed the ark of the LORD stands to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth-shemesh.
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
Afterward, Samuel took a stone and
set it up between
Mizpah and Shen. He named it
Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”
And he will
appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over
fifties; and will
set them to ear his ground, and to
reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his
chariots.
He will
appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of
fifties, and others to
plow his ground, to
reap his harvest, to make his weapons of war, and to
equip his
chariots.
Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.
“Good,” said Saul to his servant. “Come, let us go.” So they set out for the city where the man of God was.
And as for thine
asses that were lost three days ago,
set not thy mind on them; for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father’s house?
As for the
donkeys you lost three days ago, do not
worry about them, for they have been found. And upon whom is all the desire of Israel, if not upon you and all your father’s house?”
And Samuel said unto the
cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee,
Set it by thee.
And Samuel said to the
cook, “Bring the portion I gave you and told you to
set aside.”
And the
cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and
set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left!
set it before thee, and eat: for unto this time hath it been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
So the
cook picked up the leg and what was attached to it and
set it before Saul. Then Samuel said, “Here is what was kept back. It was
set apart for you. Eat, for it has been kept for you for this occasion, from the time I said, ‘I have invited the people.’” So Saul
dined with Samuel that day.
And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your
adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him,
Nay, but
set a king over us. Now therefore present
yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.
But
today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and afflictions, and you have said to Him, ‘No,
set a king over us.’ Now therefore present
yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and clans.”
And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have
hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.
Then Samuel said to all Israel, “I have
listened to your voice in all that you have said to me, and I have
set over you a king.
When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers
cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.
When Jacob went to Egypt, your fathers
cried out to the LORD, and He sent them Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt and
settled them in this place.
Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.
Now here is the king you have chosen, the one you requested. Behold, the LORD has placed a king over you.
And he
tarried seven days, according to the
set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to
Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
And Saul waited seven days for the time appointed by Samuel, but Samuel did not come to
Gilgal, and the troops began to desert Saul.
And Samuel arose, and
gat him up from
Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.
Then Samuel
set out from
Gilgal and went up to Gibeah in Benjamin. And Saul numbered the troops who were with him, about six hundred men.
It repenteth me that I have
set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it
grieved Samuel; and he
cried unto the LORD all night.
“I
regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from following Me and has not carried out My instructions.” And Samuel was distressed and
cried out to the LORD all that night.
And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to
Carmel, and, behold, he
set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to
Gilgal.
Early in the morning Samuel got up to
confront Saul, but he was told, “Saul has gone to
Carmel, and behold, he has
set up a monument for himself and has turned and gone down to
Gilgal.”
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and
anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to
Ramah.
So Samuel took the horn of oil and
anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD
rushed upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel
set out and went to
Ramah.
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and
set the battle in
array against the Philistines.
Saul and the men of Israel assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah,
arraying themselves for battle against the Philistines.
And he stood and
cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to
set your battle in
array? am not I a
Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
And
Goliath stood and
shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and
array yourselves for battle? Am I not a
Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose one of your men and have him come down against me.
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as
Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the
trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and
shouted for the battle.
So David got up early in the morning, left the flock with a keeper, loaded up, and
set out as
Jesse had
instructed him. He reached the camp as the army was marching out to its position and
shouting the battle cry.
And David went out
whithersoever Saul sent him, and
behaved himself wisely: and Saul
set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
So David marched out and
prospered in everything Saul sent him to do, and Saul
set him over the men of war. And this was pleasing in the sight of all the people, and of Saul’s officers as well.
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David
behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much
set by.
Every time the
Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.
And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common,
yea, though it were
sanctified this day in the vessel.
David answered, “Women have indeed been kept from us, as is usual when I
set out. And the
equipment of the young men is holy, as it is even on common missions, and all the more at this time.”
Then answered Doeg the
Edomite, which was
set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of
Jesse coming to
Nob, to
Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.
But Doeg the
Edomite, who had stationed himself with Saul’s servants, answered: “I saw the son of
Jesse come to
Ahimelech son of Ahitub at
Nob.
Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went
whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he
forbare to go forth.
Then David and his men, about six hundred strong, set out and departed from Keilah, moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he declined to go forth.
And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.
So they
set out and went to Ziph
ahead of Saul. Now David and his men were in the Wilderness of Maon in the Arabah south of Jeshimon,
And Samuel died; and all the Israelites were gathered together, and
lamented him, and buried him in his house at
Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of
Paran.
When Samuel died, all Israel gathered to
mourn for him; and they buried him at his home in
Ramah. Then David
set out and went down to the Wilderness of
Paran.
And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David
beheld the place where Saul lay, and
Abner the son of
Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the
trench, and the people pitched round about him.
Then David
set out and went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw the place where Saul and
Abner son of
Ner, the general of his army, had
lain down. Saul was lying inside the inner circle of the camp, with the troops camped around him.
And, behold, as thy life was much
set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much
set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all
tribulation.
As surely as I valued your life
today, so may the LORD value my life and
rescue me from all trouble.”
And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of
Gath.
So David
set out with his six hundred men and went to Achish son of Maoch, the king of
Gath.
And David dwelt with Achish at
Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and
Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
David and his men
settled in
Gath with Achish. Each man had his family with him, and David had his two wives: Ahinoam of
Jezreel and
Abigail of
Carmel, the widow of Nabal.
And Saul
disguised himself, and put on other
raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.
So Saul
disguised himself by putting on different clothes, and he
set out with two of his men. They came to the woman at night, and Saul said, “
Consult a spirit for me. Bring up for me the one I name.”
And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a
snare for my life, to cause me to die?
But the woman replied, “Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has killed the mediums and spiritists in the land. Why have you
set a
trap to get me killed?”
Now therefore, I pray thee,
hearken thou also unto the voice of thine
handmaid, and let me
set a
morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.
Now please
listen to your servant and let me
set a
morsel of bread before you so you may eat and have the strength to go on your way.”
All the
valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to
Jabesh, and burnt them there.
all their men of
valor set out, journeyed all night, and
retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they arrived at
Jabesh, they burned the bodies there.
And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of
Hebron.
David also took the men who were with him, each with his household, and they
settled in the towns near
Hebron.
To
translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to
set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba.
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to establish the throne of David over Israel and Judah, from
Dan to
Beersheba.”
And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David
sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.
Then all the people came and urged David to eat something while it was still day, but David took an oath, saying, “May God
punish me, and ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun
sets!”
And the sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of
Ish-bosheth, who lay on a bed at
noon.
Now Rechab and Baanah, the sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite,
set out and arrived at the house of
Ish-bosheth in the heat of the day, while the king was taking his
midday nap.
And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
And he and all his troops
set out for Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name— the name of the LORD of Hosts, who is enthroned between the
cherubim that are on it.
And they
set the ark of God upon a new
cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab,
drave the new
cart.
They
set the ark of God on a new
cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new
cart,
And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
So they brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
After the king had settled into his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him,
And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will
set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy
bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your
descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.
And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians
set themselves in
array against David, and fought with him.
When this was reported to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, and went to Helam. Then the Arameans
arrayed themselves against David and fought against him.
And he wrote in the letter, saying,
Set ye Uriah in the
forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be
smitten, and die.
In the letter he wrote: “Put Uriah at the front of the fiercest battle; then withdraw from him, so that he may be struck down and killed.”
So the
messenger went, and came and shewed David all that
Joab had sent him for.
So the
messenger set out and reported to David all that
Joab had sent him to say.
Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and
anointed himself, and changed his
apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they
set bread before him, and he did eat.
Then David got up from the ground, washed and
anointed himself, changed his clothes, and went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they
set food before him, and he
ate.
And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight
whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was
set on David’s head. And he brought forth the
spoil of the city in great abundance.
Then he took the crown from the head of their king. It
weighed a talent of gold and was
set with precious stones, and it was placed on David’s head. And David took a great amount of
plunder from the city.
And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.
Then she brought the pan and
set it down before him, but he refused to eat. “Send
everyone away!” said Amnon. And
everyone went out.
Therefore he said unto his servants, See,
Joab’s field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and
set it on fire. And
Absalom’s servants
set the field on fire.
Then
Absalom said to his servants, “Look,
Joab’s field is next to mine, and he has barley there. Go and
set it on fire!” And
Absalom’s servants
set the field on fire.
Then
Joab arose, and came to
Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants
set my field on fire?
Then
Joab came to
Absalom’s house and demanded, “Why did your servants
set my field on fire?”
And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.
Then the king set out, and his entire household followed him. But he left behind ten concubines to take care of the palace.
And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and
tarried in a place that was far off.
So the king set out with all the people following him. He stopped at the last house,
And lo
Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they
set down the ark of God; and
Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
Zadok was also there, and all the Levites with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they
set down the ark of God, and
Abiathar offered sacrifices until the people had passed out of the city.
Moreover
Ahithophel said unto
Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:
And when
Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he
saddled his
ass, and arose, and
gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and
hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the
sepulchre of his father.
When
Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he
saddled his
donkey and
set out for his house in his hometown. He put his affairs in order and
hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.
And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
Then David reviewed his troops and appointed over them commanders of hundreds and of thousands.
Otherwise I should have wrought
falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter
hid from the king, and thou
thyself wouldest have
set thyself against me.
If I had
jeopardized my own life—and nothing is hidden from the king—you would have abandoned me.”
Now
Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a
pillar, which is in the king’s
dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in
remembrance: and he called the
pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day,
Absalom’s place.
During his lifetime,
Absalom had
set up for himself a
pillar in the King’s Valley, for he had said, “I have no son to preserve the memory of my name.” So he gave the
pillar his name, and to this day it is called
Absalom’s Monument.
For all of my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet
didst thou
set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
For all the house of my
grandfather deserves death from my lord the king, yet you have
set your servant among those who eat at your table. What further right, then, do I have to keep appealing to the king?”
So
Amasa went to
assemble the men of Judah: but he
tarried longer than the
set time which he had appointed him.
Then she spake, saying, They were
wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at
Abel: and so they ended the matter.
Then the woman said, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Seek counsel at
Abel,’ and that is how disputes were
settled.
He maketh my feet like hinds feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
He makes my feet like those of a deer and stations me upon the heights.
He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.
He was most honored among the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. And David appointed him over his guard.
The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to
ride upon mine own
mule, and bring him down to
Gihon:
“Take my servants with you,” said the king. “
Set my son Solomon on my own
mule and take him down to
Gihon.
So
Zadok the priest, and
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to
ride upon king David’s
mule, and brought him to
Gihon.
Then
Zadok the priest,
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, along with the Cherethites and Pelethites, went down and
set Solomon on King David’s
mule, and they
escorted him to
Gihon.
And the king hath sent with him
Zadok the priest, and
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to
ride upon the king’s
mule:
And with Solomon, the king has sent
Zadok the priest,
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, along with the Cherethites and Pelethites, and they have
set him on the king’s
mule.
And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel
set their faces on me, that I should reign:
howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother’s: for it was his from the LORD.
“You know that the
kingship was mine,” he said. “All Israel expected that I should reign, but the
kingship has turned to my brother, for it has come to him from the LORD.
Bath-
sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be
set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand.
So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. The king stood up to
greet her, bowed to her, and sat down on his throne. Then the king had a throne brought for his mother, who sat down at his right hand.
Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.
And now, as surely as the LORD lives—the One who established me, who
set me on the throne of my father David, and who founded for me a dynasty as He promised—surely Adonijah shall be put to death
today!”
And Shimei arose, and
saddled his
ass, and went to
Gath to Achish to seek his servants: and Shimei went, and brought his servants from
Gath.
So Shimei
saddled his
donkey and
set out to Achish at
Gath in search of his slaves, and he brought them back from
Gath.
And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
So behold, I plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD said to my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.’
Now therefore command thou that they
hew me
cedar trees out of
Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give
hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt
appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to
hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
Now therefore, order that cedars of
Lebanon be cut down for me. My servants will be with your servants, and I will pay your servants whatever wages you
set, for you know that there are none among us as skilled in
logging as the Sidonians.”
And the
oracle he prepared in the house within, to
set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
Solomon also prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there.
And he
set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other
cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.
And he placed the
cherubim inside the
innermost room of the temple. Since their wings were spread out, the wing of the first
cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the second
cherub touched the other wall, and in the middle of the room their wingtips touched.
And his house where he dwelt had another court within the
porch, which was of the like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had taken to wife, like unto this
porch.
And the palace where Solomon would live, set further back, was of similar construction. He also made a palace like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had married.
And he made two chapiters of
molten brass, to
set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one
chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other
chapiter was five cubits:
He also made two capitals of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars, each capital five cubits high.
And he
set up the pillars in the
porch of the temple: and he
set up the right
pillar, and called the name thereof
Jachin: and he
set up the left
pillar, and he called the name thereof Boaz.
Thus he
set up the pillars at the
portico of the temple. The
pillar to the south he named
Jachin, and the
pillar to the north he named Boaz.
It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
The Sea stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The Sea rested on them, with all their hindquarters toward the center.
And he put five bases on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house: and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward over against the south.
He
set five stands on the south side of the temple and five on the north, and he put the Sea on the south side, at the
southeast corner of the temple.
