hid in mine heart, that I might not

captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us

Sing us a song of
Zion.”

persecuted my soul; he hath
smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

since dead.

harp.

Let the saints

sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
My son, if
sinners entice you, do not yield to them.
For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
For her house sinks down to death, and her tracks to the departed spirits.
His own
iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be
holden with the cords of his
sins.
But he that
sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that
hate me love death.
But he who fails to find me harms himself; all who
hate me love death.”
Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
Hatred stirs up
dissension, but love covers all transgressions.
The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
The labor of the righteous leads to life, but the gain of the wicked brings punishment.
In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
When words are many, sin is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
Behold, the righteous shall be
recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the
sinner.
If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the
sinner!
Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the
sinner.
Righteousness guards the man of
integrity, but wickedness undermines the
sinner.
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
Disaster pursues
sinners, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the
sinner is laid up for the just.
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the
sinner’s wealth is passed to the righteous.
Fools make a
mock at
sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
Fools
mock the making of
amends, but goodwill is found among the upright.
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
He who despises his
neighbor sins, but blessed is he who shows kindness to the poor.
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
The wicked man is thrown down by his own sin, but the righteous man has a refuge even in death.
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
Even zeal is no good without knowledge, and he who
hurries his footsteps misses the mark.
The fear of a king is as the
roaring of a lion:
whoso provoketh him to anger
sinneth against his own soul.
The terror of a king is like the
roar of a lion;
whoever provokes him forfeits his own life.
Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am
cleansed from my
sin”?
An high look, and a proud heart, and the
plowing of the wicked, is
sin.
Haughty eyes and a proud heart— the guides of the wicked—are
sin.
Let not thine heart
envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
Do not let your heart
envy sinners, but always continue in the fear of the LORD.
As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as
vinegar upon
nitre, so is he that
singeth songs to an heavy heart.
Like one who removes a garment on a cold day or
vinegar poured on a wound is one who
sings songs to a heavy heart.
He that covereth his
sins shall not
prosper: but
whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
He who conceals his
sins will not
prosper, but
whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.
An evil man is caught by his own sin, but a righteous one sings and rejoices.
I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar
treasure of kings and of the provinces: I
gat me men
singers and women
singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.
and I accumulated for myself silver and gold and the
treasure of kings and provinces. I gathered to myself male and female
singers, and the delights of the sons of men—many concubines.
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the
sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to
heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
To the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the
sinner He assigns the task of gathering and
accumulating that which he will hand over to one who pleases God. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
I said in my heart, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every deed.”
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other;
yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
For the fates of both men and beasts are the same: As one dies, so dies the other—they all have the same breath. Man has no advantage over the animals,
since everything is
futile.
Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to
sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be
angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?
Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to
sin, and do not tell the
messenger that your
vow was a mistake. Why should God be
angry with your words and destroy the work of your hands?
It is better to go to the house of
mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
It is better to enter a house of
mourning than a house of feasting,
since death is the end of every man, and the living should take this to heart.
For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Surely there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands:
whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the
sinner shall be taken by her.
And I find more bitter than death the woman who is a
snare, whose heart is a net, and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God escapes her, but the
sinner is ensnared.
For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?
Since no one knows what will happen, who can tell him what is to come?
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also know that it will go well with those who fear God, who are
reverent in His presence.
All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the
sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
It is the same for all: There is a common fate for the righteous and the wicked, for the good and the bad, for the clean and the unclean, for the one who sacrifices and the one who does not. As it is for the good, so it is for the
sinner; as it is for the one who makes a
vow, so it is for the one who refuses to take a
vow.
Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one
sinner destroyeth much good.
Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one
sinner destroys much good.
The words of the wise are as goads, and as
nails fastened by the masters of
assemblies, which are given from one
shepherd.
The words of the wise are like goads, and the anthologies of the masters are like firmly
embedded nails driven by a
single Shepherd.
The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the
singing of birds is come, and the voice of the
turtle is heard in our land;
The flowers have appeared in the
countryside; the season of
singing has come, and the
cooing of turtledoves is heard in our land.
My
dove, my
undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her;
yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.
but my
dove, my perfect one, is unique, the
favorite of the mother who bore her. The maidens see her and call her blessed; the queens and concubines
sing her praises.
Ah sinful nation, a people
laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have
forsaken the LORD, they have
provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
Alas, O
sinful nation, a people
laden with iniquity, a
brood of evildoers, children of
depravity! They have
forsaken the LORD; they have
despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on Him.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your
sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as wool.
“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your
sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as
crimson, they will become like wool.
And the destruction of the transgressors and of the
sinners shall be together, and they that
forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
But rebels and
sinners will together be
shattered, and those who
forsake the LORD will perish.
The
shew of their countenance
doth witness against them; and they declare their
sin as
Sodom, they hide it not.
Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
The expression on their faces testifies against them, and like
Sodom they
flaunt their
sin; they do not
conceal it.
Woe to them, for they have brought
disaster upon themselves.
Now will I
sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his
vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a
vineyard in a very fruitful hill:
I will
sing for my beloved a song of his
vineyard: My beloved had a
vineyard on a very fertile hill.
Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and
sin as it were with a
cart rope:
Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of
deceit and pull
sin along with
cart ropes,
And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy
sin purged.
And with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your
sin is
atoned for.”
The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.
The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since the day Ephraim separated from Judah—He will bring the king of Assyria.”
Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and
rush, in one day.
So the LORD will cut off Israel’s head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day.
And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and
devour his thorns and his briers in one day;
And the Light of Israel will become a fire, and its Holy One a flame. In a
single day it will burn and
devour Assyria’s thorns and thistles.
Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, for He has done glorious things. Let this be known in all the earth.
Cry out and
shout, thou inhabitant of
Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
Cry out and
sing, O citizen of
Zion, for great among you is the Holy One of Israel.”
Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land
desolate: and he shall destroy the
sinners thereof out of it.
Behold, the Day of the LORD is coming— cruel, with
fury and burning anger— to make the earth a
desolation and to destroy the
sinners within it.
That thou shalt take up this
proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the
oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!
you will
sing this song of contempt against the king of Babylon: How the
oppressor has ceased, and how his
fury has ended!
