The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.
All the earth is at peace and at rest; they break out in song.
Yea, the
fir trees
rejoice at thee, and the cedars of
Lebanon, saying,
Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be
renowned.
You will not join them in burial, since you have destroyed your land and slaughtered your own people. The offspring of the wicked will never again be mentioned.
And
gladness is taken away, and joy out of the
plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no
singing, neither shall there be
shouting: the treaders shall
tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their
vintage shouting to cease.
Joy and
gladness are removed from the
orchard; no one
sings or shouts in the vineyards. No one tramples the grapes in the winepresses; I have put an end to the
cheering.
This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning Moab since that time.
This is the message that the LORD spoke earlier concerning Moab.
And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be
purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
The LORD of Hosts has revealed in my hearing: “Until your dying day, this
sin of yours will never be
atoned for,” says the Lord GOD of Hosts.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre
sing as an
harlot.
At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years—the span of a king’s life. But at the end of seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the
harlot:
Take an
harp, go about the city, thou
harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet
melody,
sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
“Take up your
harp,
stroll through the city, O forgotten
harlot. Make sweet
melody,
sing many a song, so you will be remembered.”
They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
They no longer
sing and drink wine; strong drink is bitter to those who
consume it.
They shall lift up their voice, they shall
sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry
aloud from the sea.
They raise their voices, they
shout for joy; from the west they
proclaim the majesty of the LORD.
Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise.
Awake and
sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy
dew is as the
dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.
Awake and
sing, you who dwell in the dust! For your
dew is like the
dew of the morning, and the earth will bring forth her dead.
In that day
sing ye unto her, A
vineyard of red wine.
In that day: “
Sing about a fruitful
vineyard.
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be
purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his
sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in
sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.
Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be
atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his
sin will be this: When he makes all the altar stones like
crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.
Woe to the
rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add
sin to
sin:
“
Woe to the
rebellious children,” declares the LORD, “to those who carry out a plan that is not Mine, who form an alliance, but against My will,
heaping up
sin upon
sin.
Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy
solemnity is kept; and
gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.
You will
sing as on the night of a holy festival, and your heart will
rejoice like one who walks to the music of a
flute, going up to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.
For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.
For on that day, every one of you will
reject the idols of silver and gold that your own hands have
sinfully made.
When it shall
hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place.
But
hail will level the forest, and the city will
sink to the depths.
The
sinners in
Zion are afraid;
fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the
devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with
everlasting burnings?
He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
He who walks righteously and speaks with
sincerity, who refuses gain from
extortion, whose hand never takes a
bribe, who stops his ears against
murderous plots and shuts his eyes
tightly against evil—
Then shall the
lame man
leap as an
hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
Then the
lame will
leap like a deer and the
mute tongue will
shout for joy. For waters will
gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
How then
wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for
chariots and for
horsemen?
For how can you
repel a
single officer among the least of my master’s servants when you depend on Egypt for
chariots and
horsemen?
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto
Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the
Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the
Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in
Aramaic,
since we understand it. Do not speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall.”
Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
Surely for my own
welfare I had such great
anguish; but Your love has delivered me from the pit of
oblivion, for You have cast all my
sins behind Your back.
The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
The LORD will save me; we will play songs on stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the house of the LORD.
Speak ye
comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is
pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her
sins.
“Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and
proclaim to her that her forced labor has been completed; her iniquity has been
pardoned. For she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her
sins.”
Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the foundation of the earth?
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Sing to the LORD a new song— His praise from the ends of the earth— you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who dwell in them.
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that
Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock
sing, let them
shout from the top of the mountains.
Let the desert and its cities raise their voices; let the villages of
Kedar cry
aloud. Let the people of Sela
sing for joy; let them cry out from the mountaintops.
Who gave Jacob for a
spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have
sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they
obedient unto his law.
Who gave Jacob up for
spoil, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have
sinned? They were unwilling to walk in His ways, and they would not obey His law.
Since thou
wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
Because you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you and nations in place of your life.
Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy
sins, thou hast
wearied me with thine
iniquities.
You have not bought Me sweet cane with your silver, nor satisfied Me with the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened Me with your
sins; you have
wearied Me with your
iniquities.
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
I,
yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your
sins no more.
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me,
since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them
shew unto them.
Who then is like Me? Let him say so! Let him declare his case before Me,
since I established an ancient people. Let him
foretell the things to come, and what is to take place.
I have
blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy
sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.
I have
blotted out your transgressions like a cloud, and your
sins like a
mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.
Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it:
shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into
singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and
glorified himself in Israel.
Sing for joy, O heavens, for the LORD has done this;
shout aloud, O depths of the earth. Break forth in song, O mountains, you forests and all your trees. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and revealed His glory in Israel.
Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the
remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the
belly, which are carried from the
womb:
“
Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, all the
remnant of the house of Israel, who have been sustained from the
womb, carried along
since birth.
But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and
widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy
sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
These two things will overtake you in a moment, in a
single day: loss of children, and
widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many
sorceries and the
potency of your spells.
Because I knew that thou art
obstinate, and thy neck is an iron
sinew, and thy
brow brass;
For I knew that you are
stubborn; your neck is iron and your
forehead is bronze.
Go ye forth of Babylon,
flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of
singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
Leave Babylon!
Flee from the Chaldeans! Declare it with a
shout of joy,
proclaim it, let it go out to the ends of the earth, saying, “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob!”
Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.
Behold, they will come from far away, from the north and from the west, and from the land of Aswan.”
Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into
singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his
afflicted.
Shout for joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth; break forth in song, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, and He will have
compassion on His
afflicted ones.
Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with
singing unto
Zion; and
everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain
gladness and joy; and sorrow and
mourning shall
flee away.
Thy
watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they
sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again
Zion.
Listen! Your
watchmen lift up their voices, together they
shout for joy. For every eye will see when the LORD returns to
Zion.
Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
Break forth in joy, sing together, O ruins of Jerusalem, for the LORD has comforted His people; He has redeemed Jerusalem.
Yet it pleased the LORD to
bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for
sin, he shall see his seed, he shall
prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall
prosper in his hand.
Yet it was the LORD’s will to
crush Him and to cause Him to suffer; and when His soul is made a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will
prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the LORD will
prosper in His hand.
Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the
spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the
sin of many, and made
intercession for the transgressors.
Therefore I will
allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the spoils with the strong, because He has poured out His life unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors. Yet He bore the
sin of many and made
intercession for the transgressors.
Sing, O barren, thou that
didst not bear; break forth into
singing, and cry
aloud, thou that
didst not
travail with child: for more are the children of the
desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for joy, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth in song and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD.
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into
singing, and all the trees of the field shall
clap their hands.
You will indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will
burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will
clap their hands.
I was
enraged by his
sinful greed, so I struck him and
hid My face in anger; yet he kept turning back to the desires of his heart.
“Cry
aloud, do not hold back! Raise your voice like a ram’s horn. Declare to My people their
transgression and to the house of Jacob their
sins.
But your
iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your
sins have
hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
But your
iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your
sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.
Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.
Their cobwebs cannot be made into clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their deeds are sinful deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands.
Their feet run to evil, and they make
haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.
Their feet run to evil; they are swift to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are
sinful thoughts; ruin and destruction lie in their
wake.
For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our
sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our
iniquities, we know them;
For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our
sins testify against us. Our transgressions are indeed with us, and we know our
iniquities:
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
From ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.
Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art
wroth; for we have
sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
You
welcome those who
gladly do right, who remember Your ways. Surely You were
angry, for we
sinned. How can we be saved if we remain in our
sins?
Behold, my servants shall
sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall
howl for
vexation of spirit.
My servants will
shout for joy with a
glad heart, but you will cry out with a heavy heart and
wail with a broken spirit.
There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the
sinner being an hundred years old shall be
accursed.
No longer will a
nursing infant live but a few days, or an old man fail to live out his years. For the youth will die at a hundred years, and he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered
accursed.
And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.
They will fight against you but will never overcome you, since I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.
Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will
plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not
sinned.
you say, ‘I am innocent. Surely His anger will turn from me.’ Behold, I will judge you, because you say, ‘I have not
sinned.’
We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have
sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
Let us lie down in our shame; let our disgrace cover us. We have
sinned against the LORD our God, both we and our fathers; from our youth even to this day we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.”
Run ye to and
fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will
pardon it.
“Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem. Look now and take note; search her squares. If you can find a
single person,
anyone who acts justly,
anyone who seeks the truth, then I will
forgive the city.
Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:
From the day your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets again and again.
The wise men are
ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?
The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and
trapped.
Since they have rejected the word of the LORD, what wisdom do they really have?
Why do we sit still?
assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have
sinned against the LORD.
Why are we just sitting here? Gather together, let us
flee to the fortified cities and perish there, for the LORD our God has
doomed us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have
sinned against the LORD.
They are turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
They have returned to the sins of their forefathers who refused to obey My words. They have followed other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their fathers.
O LORD, though our
iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have
sinned against thee.
Although our
iniquities testify against us, O LORD, act for the sake of Your name. Indeed, our rebellions are many; we have
sinned against You.
Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to
wander, they have not
refrained their feet, therefore the LORD
doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their
sins.
This is what the LORD says about this people: “Truly they love to
wander; they have not restrained their feet. So the LORD does not accept them; He will now remember their guilt and call their
sins to account.”
We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have
sinned against thee.
We acknowledge our wickedness, O LORD, the guilt of our fathers; indeed, we have
sinned against You.
And I will
fan them with a
fan in the gates of the land; I will
bereave them of children, I will destroy my people,
since they return not from their ways.
I will
scatter them with a
winnowing fork at the gates of the land. I will
bereave and destroy My people who have not turned from their ways.
Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to the
spoil without price, and that for all thy
sins, even in all thy borders.
Your wealth and your treasures I will give up as
plunder, without charge for all your
sins within all your borders.
And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt
shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our
sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?
When you tell these people all these things, they will ask you, ‘Why has the LORD pronounced all this great
disaster against us? What is our guilt? What is the
sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?’
And first I will
recompense their iniquity and their
sin double; because they have
defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their
detestable and
abominable things.
And I will first repay them double their iniquity and their
sin, because they have
defiled My land with the
carcasses of their
detestable idols, and they have filled My inheritance with their abominations.”
The
sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a
diamond: it is
graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars;
“The
sin of Judah is written with an iron
stylus, engraved with a
diamond point on the tablets of their hearts and on the horns of their altars.
O my mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures to the
spoil, and thy high places for
sin, throughout all thy borders.
O My mountain in the
countryside, I will give over your wealth and all your treasures as
plunder, because of the
sin of your high places, within all your borders.
Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to
slay me:
forgive not their iniquity, neither
blot out their
sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.
But You, O LORD, know all their deadly plots against me. Do not
wipe out their guilt or
blot out their
sin from Your sight. Let them be overthrown before You; deal with them in the time of Your anger.
For
since I spake, I
cried out, I
cried violence and
spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a
derision, daily.
For whenever I speak, I cry out; I
proclaim violence and destruction. For the word of the LORD has become to me a reproach and
derision all day long.
But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall
stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly
ashamed; for they shall not
prosper: their
everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
But the LORD is with me like a
fearsome warrior. Therefore, my persecutors will
stumble and will not prevail.
Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly put to shame, with an
everlasting disgrace that will never be forgotten.
Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD! For He rescues the life of the
needy from the hands of evildoers.
Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his
wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
“Please inquire of the LORD on our behalf,
since Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is
waging war against us. Perhaps the LORD will perform for us something like all His past wonders, so that
Nebuchadnezzar will withdraw from us.”
But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
But if you claim, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ then this is what the LORD says: Because you have said, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ and I specifically told you not to make this claim,
For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
For he has sent to us in Babylon, claiming:
Since the exile will be
lengthy, build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat their produce.’”
All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the
chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy
sins were increased.
All your lovers have forgotten you; they no longer seek you, for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline of someone cruel, because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins.
Why criest thou for thine
affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy
sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.
Why do you cry out over your wound? Your pain has no cure! Because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins I have done these things to you.
For thus saith the LORD;
Sing with
gladness for Jacob, and
shout among the chief of the nations:
publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the
remnant of Israel.
For this is what the LORD says: “
Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost of the nations! Make your praises heard, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the
remnant of Israel!’
Therefore they shall come and
sing in the height of
Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the
herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.
They will come and
shout for joy on the heights of
Zion; they will be
radiant over the
bounty of the LORD— the grain, new wine, and oil, and the young of the flocks and herds. Their life will be like a well-watered garden, and never again will they
languish.
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant child? for
since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful child? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares the LORD.
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will
forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their
sin no more.
No longer will each man teach his
neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will
forgive their
iniquities and will remember their
sins no more.”
And they built the high places of
Baal, which are in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto
Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this
abomination, to cause Judah to
sin.
They have built the high places of
Baal in the Valley of
Hinnom to make their sons and daughters pass through the fire to
Molech—something I never commanded them, nor had it ever entered My mind, that they should commit such an
abomination and cause Judah to
sin.
And I will
cleanse them from all the iniquity they have committed against Me, and will
forgive all their
sins of rebellion against Me.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their
sin.
Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their
sin.”
Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the
hearth burning before him.
Since it was the ninth month, the king was sitting in his winter quarters with a fire burning before him.
Moreover Jeremiah said unto king
Zedekiah, What have I
offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
Then Jeremiah asked King
Zedekiah, “How have I
sinned against you or your servants or these people, that you have put me in prison?
Then
Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
“Here he is,” replied King
Zedekiah. “He is in your hands,
since the king can do nothing to stop you.”
Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have
sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.
and now the LORD has fulfilled it; He has done just as He said. Because you people have
sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed His voice, this thing has happened to you.
