steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

become poor and
steal,
profaning the name of my God.
For a servant when he reigneth; and a
fool when he is filled with meat;
a servant who
becomes king, a

kingship, though he was born poor in his own kingdom.

I am a wall, and my breasts are like towers. So I have become in his eyes like one who brings peace.
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small
remnant, we should have been as
Sodom, and we should have been like unto
Gomorrah.
Unless the LORD of Hosts had left us a few survivors, we would have
become like
Sodom, we would have resembled
Gomorrah.

weary to bear them.

become a burden to Me; I am
weary of bearing them.

crimson, they shall be as wool.

crimson, they will
become like wool.

become an
harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness
lodged in it; but now murderers.

become a
harlot! She once was full of justice; righteousness resided within her, but now only murderers!

become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
Your silver has
become dross; your fine wine is
diluted with water.

become like an oak whose leaves are
withered, like a garden without water.

tow, and the maker of it as a
spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall
quench them.

become tinder and his work will be a
spark; both will burn together, with no one to
quench the flames.
In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be
desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.

become desolate, great mansions left unoccupied.

Men will go there with bow and
arrow, for the land will be covered with briers and thorns.
And on all hills that shall be
digged with the
mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the
treading of lesser cattle.
For fear of the briers and thorns, you will no longer
traverse the hills once tilled by the
hoe; they will
become places for oxen to
graze and sheep to
trample.
And they shall pass through it, hardly
bestead and
hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be
hungry, they shall
fret themselves, and
curse their king and their God, and look upward.

devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be
contemned, with all that great multitude; and the
remnant shall be very small and feeble.

hired worker counts the years, Moab’s
splendor will
become an object of contempt, with all her many people. And those who are left will be few and feeble.”

For
afore the harvest, when the
bud is perfect, and the
sour grape is
ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruninghooks, and take away and cut down the branches.
For before the harvest, when the
blossom is gone and the flower
becomes a
ripening grape, He will cut off the shoots with a
pruning knife and remove and discard the branches.
Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is
become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
The princes of Zoan are mere fools; Pharaoh’s wise counselors give senseless advice. How can you say to Pharaoh, “I am one of the wise, a son of eastern kings”?
The princes of Zoan are
become fools, the princes of
Noph are
deceived; they have also
seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof.
The princes of Zoan have
become fools; the princes of
Memphis are
deceived. The cornerstones of her tribes have led Egypt
astray.
But the word of the LORD was unto them
precept upon
precept,
precept upon
precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and
snared, and taken.
Then the word of the LORD to them will
become: “Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line; a little here, a little there,” so that they will go
stumbling backward and will be injured, ensnared, and captured.
Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.
So now, do not
mock, or your
shackles will
become heavier. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord GOD of Hosts a decree of destruction against the whole land.
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
And the entire vision will be to you like the words sealed in a
scroll. If it is handed to someone to read, he will say, “I cannot, because it is sealed.”

forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild
asses, a pasture of flocks;
And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into
brimstone, and the land thereof shall
become burning pitch.
Edom’s streams will be turned to tar, and her soil to sulfur; her land will
become a
blazing pitch.
And thorns shall come up in her palaces,
nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an
habitation of
dragons, and a court for owls.
Her towers will be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She will
become a
haunt for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
The
parched ground will
become a
pool, the
thirsty land springs of water. In the
haunt where jackals once lay, there will be grass and reeds and
papyrus.
Every valley shall be
exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the
crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground will
become smooth, and the
rugged land a plain.
But this is a people
robbed and
spoiled; they are all of them
snared in holes, and they are
hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a
spoil, and none saith, Restore.
Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.
Pay attention to Me, My people, and
listen to Me, My nation; for a law will go out from Me, and My justice will
become a light to the nations; I will bring it about quickly.
Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.
Their cobwebs cannot be made into clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their deeds are sinful deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands.
Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
Truth is missing, and
whoever turns from evil
becomes prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice.
A little one shall
become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will
hasten it in his time.
The least of you will
become a thousand, and the smallest a mighty nation. I am the LORD; in its time I will
accomplish it quickly.
We are thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by thy name.
We have become like those You never ruled, like those not called by Your name.
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as
filthy rags; and we all do
fade as a leaf; and our
iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Each of us has
become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like
filthy rags; we all wither like a leaf, and our
iniquities carry us away like the wind.
Thy holy cities are a wilderness,
Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a
desolation.
Your holy cities have
become a wilderness.
Zion has
become a wasteland and Jerusalem a
desolation.
And
Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of
Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.
Sharon will
become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of
Achor a resting place for herds, for My people who seek Me.
Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
This is what the LORD says: “What fault did your fathers find in Me that they
strayed so far from Me, and followed worthless idols, and became worthless themselves?
Is Israel a slave? Was he born into slavery? Why then has he become prey?
They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and
become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly
polluted? but thou hast played the
harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
“If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him to marry another, can he ever return to her? Would not such a land be completely
defiled? But you have played the
harlot with many lovers— and you would return to Me?” declares the LORD.
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
The prophets are but wind, for the word is not in them. So let their own predictions
befall them.”

cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of
deceit: therefore they are
become great, and
waxen rich.
Like cages full of birds, so their houses are full of
deceit. Therefore they have
become powerful and rich.
To whom shall I speak, and give
warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is
uncircumcised, and they cannot
hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
To whom can I give this
warning? Who will
listen to me? Look, their ears are closed, so they cannot hear. See, the word of the LORD has
become offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.
Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.
Has this house, which bears My Name,
become a den of robbers in your sight?
Yes, I too have seen it, declares the LORD.
And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall
fray them away.
The corpses of this people will
become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to
scare them away.
Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride: for the land shall be
desolate.
I will remove from the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sounds of joy and
gladness and the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, for the land will
become a wasteland.”
And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.
They will be exposed to the sun and moon, and to all the host of heaven which they have loved, served, followed, consulted, and worshiped. Their bones will not be gathered up or buried, but will become like dung lying on the ground.
For the pastors are
become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not
prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
For the
shepherds have
become senseless; they do not seek the LORD. Therefore they have not
prospered, and all their flock is scattered.
Mine
heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I
hated it.
My inheritance has
become to Me like a lion in the forest. She has
roared against Me; therefore I
hate her.
Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be
healed?
wilt thou be altogether unto me as a
liar, and as waters that fail?
Why is my pain unending, and my wound incurable, refusing to be
healed? You have indeed
become like a
mirage to me— water that is not there.
They shall die of
grievous deaths; they shall not be
lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
“They will die from deadly diseases. They will not be
mourned or buried, but will lie like dung on the ground. They will be finished off by sword and famine, and their corpses will
become food for the birds of the air and beasts of the earth.”
Be not a terror unto me: thou art my hope in the day of evil.
Do not
become a terror to me; You are my refuge in the day of
disaster.
Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be
bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
Therefore, hand their children over to famine; pour out the power of the sword upon them. Let their wives become childless and widowed; let their husbands be slain by disease, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.
For since I spake, I
cried out, I
cried violence and
spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a
derision, daily.
For whenever I speak, I cry out; I
proclaim violence and destruction. For the word of the LORD has
become to me a reproach and
derision all day long.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was
weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay.
If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His message
becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I
become weary of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.
But if ye will not hear these words, I
swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall
become a
desolation.
But if you do not obey these words, then I
swear by Myself, declares the LORD, that this house will
become a pile of
rubble.’”
Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones
shake; I am like a
drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his
holiness.
As for the prophets: My heart is broken within me, and all my bones
tremble. I have
become like a
drunkard, like a man overcome by wine, because of the LORD, because of His holy words.
Wherefore their way shall be unto them as
slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their
visitation, saith the LORD.
“Therefore their path will
become slick; they will be driven away into the darkness and fall into it. For I will bring
disaster upon them in the year of their punishment,” declares the LORD.
And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have
perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
But refer no more to the burden of the LORD, for each man’s word
becomes the burden, so that you
pervert the words of the living God, the LORD of Hosts, our God.
And this whole land shall be a
desolation, and an
astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
And this whole land will
become a
desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.
Why hast thou
prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like
Shiloh, and this city shall be
desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
How
dare you
prophesy in the name of the LORD that this house will
become like
Shiloh and this city will be
desolate and deserted!” And all the people assembled against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
Micah the Morasthite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Zion shall be
plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall
become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
“
Micah the Moreshite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah and told all the people of Judah that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will
become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a wooded ridge.’
Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: wherefore should this city be laid waste?
Do not
listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon and live! Why should this city
become a ruin?
But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
but later they changed their minds and took back the menservants and maidservants they had freed, and they forced them to become slaves again.
I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies shall be for meat unto the fowls of the heaven, and to the beasts of the earth.
I will deliver into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives. Their corpses will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.
Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
Yet in hearing all these words, the king and his servants did not
become frightened or
tear their garments.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my
fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my
fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an
execration, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as My anger and wrath were poured out on the residents of Jerusalem, so will My wrath be poured out on you if you go to Egypt. You will
become an object of
cursing and
horror, of
vilification and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.’
Wherefore my
fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was
kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and
desolate, as at this day.
Therefore My wrath and anger poured out and burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, so that they have
become the
desolate ruin they are
today.
In that ye
provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt,
whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut
yourselves off, and that ye might be a
curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
Why are you
provoking Me to anger by the work of your hands by burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to reside? As a result, you will be cut off and will
become an object of
cursing and reproach among all the nations of the earth.
And I will take the
remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an
execration, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, and a reproach.
And I will take away the
remnant of Judah who have resolved to go to the land of Egypt to reside there; they will meet their end. They will all fall by the sword or be consumed by famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine; and they will
become an object of
cursing and
horror, of
vilification and reproach.
Flee, save your lives, and be like the
heath in the wilderness.
‘
Flee! Run for your lives!
Become like a
juniper in the desert.’
Give wings unto Moab, that it may
flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be
desolate, without any to dwell therein.
Put salt on Moab, for she will be laid waste; her cities will
become desolate, with no one to dwell in them.
They shall
howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a
derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
“How
shattered it is! How they
wail! How Moab has turned his back in shame! Moab has
become an object of
ridicule and
horror to all those around him.”
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an
alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the
Ammonites; and it shall be a
desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.
Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah of the
Ammonites. It will
become a
heap of ruins, and its villages will be burned. Then Israel will drive out their dispossessors, says the LORD.
For I have
sworn by myself, saith the LORD, that
Bozrah shall
become a
desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a
curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.
Also
Edom shall be a
desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be
astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.
Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to
flee, and fear hath seized on her:
anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in
travail.
Damascus has
become feeble; she has turned to
flee.
Panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her like a woman in labor.
And their camels shall be a
booty, and the multitude of their cattle a
spoil: and I will
scatter into all winds them that are in the utmost corners; and I will bring their
calamity from all sides thereof, saith the LORD.
Their camels will
become plunder, and their large herds will be
spoil. I will
scatter to the wind in every direction those who
shave their temples; I will bring
calamity on them from all sides,” declares the LORD.
And Hazor shall be a dwelling for
dragons, and a
desolation for ever: there shall no man
abide there, nor any son of man dwell in it.
Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly
desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be
astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.
Because of the wrath of the LORD, she will not be inhabited; she will
become completely
desolate. All who pass through Babylon will be
horrified and will hiss at all her wounds.
How is the hammer of the whole earth cut
asunder and broken! how is Babylon
become a
desolation among the nations!
How the hammer of the whole earth lies broken and
shattered! What a
horror Babylon has
become among the nations!
A sword is upon the liars; and they shall
dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.
A sword is against her false prophets, and they will become fools. A sword is against her warriors, and they will be filled with terror.
A sword is upon their horses, and upon their
chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall
become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be
robbed.
A sword is against her horses and
chariots and against all the foreigners in her midst, and they will
become like women. A sword is against her
treasuries, and they will be
plundered.
