And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
And the entire vision will be to you like the words sealed in a
scroll. If it is handed to someone to read, he will say, “I
cannot, because it is sealed.”
And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
Or if the
scroll is handed to one unable to read, he will say, “I
cannot read.”
Surely your turning of things
upside down shall be esteemed as the
potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?
You have turned things
upside down, as if the
potter were regarded as clay. Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, “He did not make me”?
Can the pottery say of the
potter, “He has no understanding”?
They were all
ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be an help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.
everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them. They
cannot be of help; they are good for nothing but shame and reproach.”
And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not
spare: so that there shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the pit.
The sinners in
Zion are afraid;
fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the
devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with
everlasting burnings?
Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou
canst perceive; of a
stammering tongue, that thou
canst not understand.
You will no longer see the
insolent, a people whose speech is unintelligible, who
stammer in a language you
cannot understand.
But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no
galley with oars, neither shall
gallant ship pass thereby.
But there the
Majestic One, our LORD, will be for us a place of rivers and wide
canals, where no
galley with oars will row, and no
majestic vessel will pass.
Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well
strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great
spoil divided; the
lame take the prey.
Your ropes are
slack; they
cannot secure the mast or spread the sail. Then an abundance of spoils will be divided, and even the
lame will carry off
plunder.
Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
Now, therefore, make a
bargain with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses—if you
can put riders on them!
How then
wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for
chariots and for
horsemen?
For how
can you
repel a single officer among the least of my master’s servants when you depend on Egypt for
chariots and
horsemen?
Thus saith the king, Let not
Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
This is what the king says: Do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, for he
cannot deliver you.
Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
Who among all the gods of these lands has delivered his land from my hand? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”
What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
What
can I say? He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done this. I will walk slowly all my years because of the
anguish of my soul.
For the grave
cannot praise thee, death
can not
celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit
cannot hope for thy truth.
For
Sheol cannot thank You; Death
cannot praise You. Those who descend to the Pit
cannot hope for Your faithfulness.
The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
The living, only the living,
can thank You, as I do
today; fathers will tell their children about Your faithfulness.
Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them
can declare this, and
shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
All the nations gather together and the peoples
assemble. Who among them
can declare this, and
proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses to
vindicate them, so that others may hear and say, “It is true.”
Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that
can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?
Even from
eternity I am He, and none
can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who
can reverse it?”
Thou hast bought me no sweet
cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast
wearied me with thine
iniquities.
You have not bought Me sweet
cane with your silver, nor satisfied Me with the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened Me with your sins; you have
wearied Me with your
iniquities.
They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
They do not
comprehend or
discern, for He has shut their eyes so they
cannot see and closed their minds so they
cannot understand.
He feedeth on ashes: a
deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he
cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
He feeds on ashes. His
deluded heart has led him
astray, and he
cannot deliver himself or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?”
Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their
graven image, and pray unto a god that
cannot save.
Come, gather together, and draw near, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry idols of wood and pray to a god that cannot save.
They pour out their bags of gold and
weigh out silver on scales; they
hire a
goldsmith to fashion it into a god, so they
can bow down and worship.
They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove:
yea, one shall cry unto him, yet
can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.
They lift it to their shoulder and carry it along; they set it in its place, and there it stands, not
budging from that spot. They cry out to it, but it does not answer; it saves no one from his troubles.
Behold, they shall be as
stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
Surely they are like
stubble; the fire will burn them up. They
cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. There will be no coals to warm them or fire to sit beside.
Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall
wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
This is what they are to you— those with whom you have labored and traded from youth— each one strays in his own direction; not one of them can save you.
They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
They are created now, and not long ago; you have not heard of them before
today. So you
cannot claim, ‘I already knew them!’
For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be
polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
For My own sake, My very own sake, I will act; for how
can I let Myself be
defamed? I will not yield My glory to another.
Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful
captive delivered?
Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand
shortened at all, that it
cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my
rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for
thirst.
Why was no one there when I arrived? Why did no one answer when I called? Is My hand too short to
redeem you? Or do I lack the strength to deliver you? Behold, My
rebuke dries up the sea; I turn the rivers into a desert; the fish
rot for lack of water and die of
thirst.
These two things are come unto thee; who shall be
sorry for thee?
desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee?
But I will put it into the hand of them that
afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
I will place it in the hands of your tormentors, who told you: ‘Lie down, so we can walk over you,’ so that you made your back like the ground, like a street to be traversed.”
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the
transgression of my people was he
stricken.
By oppression and judgment He was taken away, and who
can recount His descendants? For He was cut off from the land of the living; He was
stricken for the
transgression of My people.
His
watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all
dumb dogs, they
cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to
slumber.
Israel’s
watchmen are blind, they are all
oblivious; they are all
mute dogs, they
cannot bark; they are dreamers lying around, loving to
slumber.
Yea, they are
greedy dogs which
can never have enough, and they are
shepherds that
cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
Like
ravenous dogs, they are never satisfied. They are
shepherds with no
discernment; they all turn to their own way, each one seeking his own gain:
But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it
cannot rest, whose waters cast up
mire and
dirt.
But the wicked are like the storm-
tossed sea, for it
cannot be still, and its waves
churn up
mire and
muck.
Behold, ye fast for
strife and
debate, and to
smite with the
fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
Behold, the LORD’S hand is not
shortened, that it
cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it
cannot hear:
Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear.
Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.
Their cobwebs cannot be made into clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their deeds are sinful deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands.
And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth
afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and
equity cannot enter.
So justice is turned away, and righteousness stands at a distance. For truth has
stumbled in the public square, and
honesty cannot enter.
Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art
wroth; for we have
sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
You
welcome those who
gladly do right, who remember Your ways. Surely You were
angry, for we
sinned. How
can we be saved if we remain in our sins?
Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as
Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
Who has heard of such as this? Who has seen such things?
Can a country be born in a day or a nation be delivered in an instant? Yet as soon as
Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children.
Then said I,
Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I
cannot speak: for I am a child.
“
Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I surely do not know how to speak, for I am only a child!”
For my people have committed two evils; they have
forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and
hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that
can hold no water.
“For My people have committed two evils: They have
forsaken Me, the fountain of living water, and they have
dug their own cisterns— broken cisterns that
cannot hold water.
How
canst thou say, I am not
polluted, I have not gone after
Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift
dromedary traversing her ways;
“How
can you say, ‘I am not
defiled; I have not run after the Baals’? Look at your
behavior in the valley; acknowledge what you have done. You are a swift young she-
camel galloping here and there,
A wild
ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who
can turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
a wild
donkey at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the heat of her desire. Who
can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will find her.
But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
But where are the gods you made for
yourselves? Let them rise up in your time of trouble and save you if they
can; for your gods are as numerous as your cities, O Judah.
Can a
maid forget her ornaments, or a
bride her
attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly
polluted? but thou hast played the
harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
“If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him to marry another,
can he ever return to her? Would not such a land be completely
defiled? But you have played the
harlot with many lovers— and you would return to Me?” declares the LORD.
Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.
Will He be
angry forever? Will He be
indignant to the end?’ This you have spoken, but you keep doing all the evil you
can.”
And thou shalt
swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall
bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
and if you
can swear, ‘As surely as the LORD lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness, then the nations will be blessed by Him, and in Him they will glory.”
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my
fury come forth like fire, and burn that none
can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and remove the foreskins of your hearts, O men of Judah and people of Jerusalem. Otherwise, My wrath will break out like fire and burn with no one to
extinguish it, because of your evil deeds.”
My
bowels, my
bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I
cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the
trump, the
alarm of war.
My
anguish, my
anguish! I
writhe in pain! Oh, the pain in my chest! My heart pounds within me; I
cannot be silent. For I have heard the sound of the horn, the
alarm of battle.
Run ye to and
fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye
can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will
pardon it.
“Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem. Look now and take note; search her squares. If you
can find a single person,
anyone who acts justly,
anyone who seeks the truth, then I will
forgive the city.
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not
tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it
cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof
toss themselves, yet
can they not prevail; though they
roar, yet
can they not pass over it?
Do you not fear Me?” declares the LORD. “Do you not
tremble before Me, the One who set the sand as the boundary for the sea, an
enduring barrier it
cannot cross? The waves
surge, but they
cannot prevail. They
roar but
cannot cross it.
To whom shall I speak, and give
warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is
uncircumcised, and they
cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
To whom
can I give this
warning? Who will
listen to me? Look, their ears are closed, so they
cannot hear. See, the word of the LORD has become offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.
To what purpose cometh there to me incense from
Sheba, and the sweet
cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
What use to Me is
frankincense from
Sheba or sweet
cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please Me.”
Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
and then come and stand before Me in this house, which bears My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue with all these abominations’?
How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the
scribes is in vain.
How
can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us,’ when in fact the lying pen of the
scribes has produced a
deception?
For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall
bite you, saith the LORD.
“For behold, I will send snakes among you, vipers that
cannot be charmed, and they will
bite you,” declares the LORD.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will
melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Behold, I will refine them and test them, for what else can I do because of the daughter of My people?
For the mountains will I take up a
weeping and
wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a
lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none
can pass through them; neither
can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.
I will take up a
weeping and
wailing for the mountains, a
dirge over the wilderness pasture, for they have been
scorched so no one passes through, and the lowing of cattle is not heard. Both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled; they have gone away.
Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
Who is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the LORD spoken, that he may explain it? Why is the land destroyed and
scorched like a desert, so no one
can pass through it?
They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
Like scarecrows in a
cucumber patch, their idols
cannot speak. They must be carried because they
cannot walk. Do not fear them, for they
can do no
harm, and neither
can they do any good.”
But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an
everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall
tremble, and the nations shall not be able to
abide his
indignation.
But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and eternal King. The earth quakes at His wrath, and the nations
cannot endure His
indignation.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not
hearken unto them.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I am about to bring upon them a
disaster that they
cannot escape. They will cry out to Me, but I will not
listen to them.
What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought
lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
What right has My beloved in My house, having carried out so many evil schemes?
Can consecrated meat
avert your
doom, so that you
can rejoice?
How long shall the land
mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
How long will the land
mourn and the grass of every field be
withered? Because of the evil of its residents, the animals and birds have been swept away, for the people have said, “He
cannot see what our end will be.”
If thou hast run with the
footmen, and they have
wearied thee, then how
canst thou
contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they
wearied thee, then how
wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how
can you
compete with horses? If you
stumble in a peaceful land, how will you do in the thickets of the Jordan?
The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away
captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away
captive.
The cities of the Negev have been shut
tight, and no one
can open them. All Judah has been carried into exile, wholly taken
captive.
Can the
Ethiopian change his skin, or the
leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
Can the
Ethiopian change his skin, or the
leopard his spots? Neither are you able to do good— you who are accustomed to doing evil.
Why shouldest thou be as a man
astonied, as a mighty man that
cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
Why are You like a man taken by surprise, like a
warrior powerless to save? Yet You are among us, O LORD, and we are called by Your name. Do not
forsake us!
Are there any among the
vanities of the Gentiles that
can cause rain? or
can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
Can the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the
skies alone send showers? Is this not by You, O LORD our God? So we put our hope in You, for You have done all these things.
Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel?
Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?
Can man make gods for himself? Such are not gods!”
The heart is
deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who
can understand it?
O house of Israel,
cannot I do with you as this
potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the
potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
“O house of Israel, declares the LORD,
can I not treat you as this
potter treats his clay? Just like clay in the
potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.
And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a
potter’s vessel, that
cannot be made whole again: and they shall
bury them in
Tophet, till there be no place to
bury.
and you are to
proclaim to them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I will
shatter this nation and this city, like one
shatters a
potter’s
jar that
can never again be repaired. They will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room to
bury them.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was
weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay.
If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become
weary of holding it in, and I
cannot prevail.
O house of David, thus saith the LORD;
Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is
spoiled out of the hand of the
oppressor, lest my
fury go out like fire, and burn that none
can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
O house of David, this is what the LORD says: ‘
Administer justice every morning, and
rescue the
victim of
robbery from the hand of his
oppressor, or My wrath will go forth like fire and burn with no one to
extinguish it because of their evil deeds.
Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?
Behold, I am against you who dwell above the valley,
atop the rocky plateau— declares the LORD— you who say, “Who
can come against us? Who
can enter our dwellings?”
Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
“Can a man hide in secret places where I cannot see him?” declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.
Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
“Jeremiah,” the LORD asked, “what do you see?” “Figs!” I replied. “The good figs are very good, but the bad figs are very bad, so bad they cannot be eaten.”
And as the evil figs, which
cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give
Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:
But like the bad figs, so bad they
cannot be eaten,’ says the LORD, ‘so will I deal with
Zedekiah king of Judah, his officials, and the
remnant of Jerusalem—those remaining in this land and those living in the land of Egypt.
They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:
The prophets told you, ‘Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and deeds, and you
can dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers
forever and ever.
Moreover I will take from them the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the
candle.
Moreover, I will
banish from them the sounds of joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the
pestilence, and will make them like
vile figs, that
cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “I will send against them sword and famine and plague, and I will make them like
rotten figs, so bad they
cannot be eaten.
Ask ye now, and see whether a man
doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: “Only if the heavens above could be measured and the foundations of the earth below searched out would I
reject all of Israel’s descendants because of all they have done,” declares the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season;
“This is what the LORD says: If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that day and night cease to occupy their appointed time,
As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.
As the hosts of heaven
cannot be counted and as the sand on the
seashore cannot be measured, so too will I multiply the descendants of My servant David and the Levites who minister before Me.”
And Jeremiah commanded
Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I
cannot go into the house of the LORD:
Then Jeremiah commanded
Baruch, “I am restricted; I
cannot enter the house of the LORD;
Then
Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that
can do any thing against you.
“Here he is,” replied King
Zedekiah. “He is in your hands, since the king
can do nothing to stop you.”
And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we
beseech thee, our
supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this
remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
Jeremiah the prophet and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on behalf of this entire
remnant. For few of us remain of the many, as you
can see with your own eyes.
Let not the swift
flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall
stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.
“The swift
cannot flee, and the
warrior cannot escape! In the north by the River Euphrates they
stumble and fall.
Why are thy
