thanked the king: and
Joab said,
Today thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant.
Joab fell facedown in
homage and blessed the king. “
Today,” said
Joab, “your servant knows that he has found favor with you, my lord the king, because the king has granted his request.”
And
Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he
fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.

Gera crossed the Jordan, he

fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and
slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit,
Abner the son of
Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and
Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.
The LORD will bring his
bloodshed back upon his own head, for without the knowledge of my father David he struck down two men more righteous and better than he when he put to the sword

Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.

Obadiah was in the way, behold,
Elijah met him: and he knew him, and
fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord
Elijah?

fell facedown and said, “Is it you, my lord
Elijah?”

fell on twenty-seven thousand of the remaining men. Ben-
hadad also fled to the city and
hid in an inner room.

Ahaziah fell down through a
lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go,
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.
Now
Ahaziah had fallen through the
lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers and
instructed them: “Go inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron, whether I will recover from this injury.”
And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and

He took up also the
mantle of
Elijah that
fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
And he took the
mantle of
Elijah that
fell from him, and
smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of
Elijah? and when he also had
smitten the waters, they parted
hither and thither: and
Elisha went over.
Then he took the
cloak of
Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters. “Where now is the LORD, the God of
Elijah?” he asked. And when he had struck the waters, they parted to the right and to the left, and
Elisha crossed over.
And ye shall
smite every
fenced city, and every choice city, and shall
fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and
mar every good piece of land with stones.
And you shall attack every fortified city and every city of importance. You shall cut down every good tree, stop up every spring, and ruin every good field with stones.”
And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and
felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof;
howbeit the slingers went about it, and
smote it.
They destroyed the cities, and each man threw stones on every good field until it was covered. They stopped up every spring and cut down every good tree. Only Kir-haraseth was left with stones in place, but men with
slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.

felling a beam, the
axe head
fell into the water: and he
cried, and said,
Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron
axe head
fell into the water. “Oh, my master,” he
cried out, “it was borrowed!”
And the man of God said, Where
fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did
swim.
“Where did it fall?” asked the man of God. And when he showed him the place, the man of God cut a stick, threw it there, and made the iron
float.
And so it
fell out unto him: for the people
trode upon him in the gate, and he died.

Then
Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this
mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication.
When
Jehu went out to the servants of his master, they asked, “Is everything all right? Why did this
madman come to you?” “You know his kind and their
babble,” he replied.

fellow priests.

And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who
fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of
Gilead.
During the days of Saul they
waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated at their hands, and they occupied the homes of the Hagrites throughout the region east of
Gilead.
For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.
and many others fell slain, because the battle belonged to God. And they occupied the land until the exile.
Their brethren also the Levites were appointed unto all manner of service of the tabernacle of the house of God.
Their fellow Levites were assigned to every kind of service of the tabernacle, the house of God.
Now these are their dwelling places throughout their castles in their coasts, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites: for theirs was the lot.
Now these were the territories assigned to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clan for their settlements, because the first lot fell to them:
Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and

Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was
sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and
fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men will come and
torture me!” But his
armor-bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and
fell on it.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
When his
armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too
fell on his own sword and died.
And there
fell some of
Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon
advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul to the
jeopardy of our heads.
Some from
Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (They did not help the Philistines because the
Philistine rulers consulted and sent David away, saying, “It will cost us our heads if he defects to his master Saul.”)
As he went to
Ziklag, there
fell to him of
Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and
Elihu, and Zilthai, captains of the thousands that were of

Manasseh defected to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad,
Elihu, and Zillethai, chiefs of thousands in
Manasseh.
And
Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at

fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in

Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,
The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,
Now the first lot came forth for
Asaph to Joseph: the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and sons were twelve:
The first lot, which was for
Asaph,
fell to Joseph, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all; the second to Gedaliah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;
And the lot eastward
fell to Shelemiah. Then for
Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.

fell to Shelemiah. Then lots were cast for his son
Zechariah, a wise
counselor, and the lot for the North Gate
fell to him.
To Obed-
edom southward; and to his sons the house of
Asuppim.
The lot for the South Gate
fell to Obed-
edom, and the lot for the storehouses to his sons.

highway fell to Shuppim and Hosah. There were guards stationed at every watch.

And
Abijah and his people
slew them with a great slaughter: so there
fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

fell slain.
And
Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto
Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much
spoil.
Then
Asa and his army pursued them as far as
Gerar. The Cushites
fell and could not recover, for they were
crushed before the LORD and His army. So the people of Judah carried off a great amount of
plunder And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and
Manasseh, and out of
Simeon: for they
fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the tribes of Ephraim,
Manasseh, and
Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
And the fear of the LORD
fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against
Jehoshaphat.

Jehoshaphat.
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this
fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I return in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
And
Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem

worshipping the LORD.

And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of
sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
But the soldiers of the army which
Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle,
fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and
smote three thousand of them, and took much
spoil.

Amaziah had dismissed from battle
raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon. They struck down 3,000 people and carried off a great deal of
plunder.
And
Hezekiah spake
comfortably unto all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD God of their fathers.

Hezekiah encouraged all the Levites who performed
skillfully before the LORD. For seven days they
ate their assigned portion, sacrificing
fellowship offerings and giving
thanks to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And next him were
Eden, and Miniamin, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their set office, to give to their brethren by courses, as well to the great as to the small:
Under his authority,
Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah faithfully distributed portions to their
fellow priests in their cities, according to their divisions, old and young alike.
So kill the
passover, and
sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
Slaughter the
Passover lambs,
consecrate yourselves, and make preparations for your
fellow countrymen to carry out the word of the LORD given by Moses.”
And the singers the sons of
Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and
Asaph, and Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer; and the
porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
The singers, the descendants of
Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David,
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer. And the gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their position, because their
fellow Levites made preparations for them.
Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings

fellow priests, along with
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates, began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God.
And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my
heaviness; and having rent my garment and my
mantle, I
fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God.

humiliation with my
tunic and
cloak torn, and I
fell on my knees, spread out my hands to the LORD my God,
Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they
sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they
sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.
At the Sheep Gate, Eliashib the high priest and his
fellow priests began rebuilding. They dedicated it and
installed its doors. After building as far as the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel, they dedicated the wall.
And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
About that time there was a great outcry from the people and their wives against their fellow Jews.
And I made treasurers over the
treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and
Zadok the
scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
I appointed as treasurers over the storerooms Shelemiah the priest,
Zadok the
scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites, with Hanan son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah, to assist them, because they were considered
trustworthy. They were responsible for distributing the supplies to their
fellow Levites.
In the first month, that is, the month
Nisan, in the
twelfth year of king
Ahasuerus, they cast
Pur, that is, the lot, before
Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the
twelfth month, that is, the month
Adar.
In the
twelfth year of King
Xerxes, in the first month, the month of
Nisan, the
Pur (that is, the lot) was cast before
Haman to determine a day and month. And the lot
fell on the
twelfth month, the month of
Adar.
And
Esther spake yet again before the king, and
fell down at his feet, and
besought him with tears to put away the mischief of
Haman the Agagite, and his
device that he had devised against the Jews.
And once again,
Esther addressed the king. She
fell at his feet
weeping and
begged him to
revoke the evil scheme of
Haman the Agagite, which he had devised against the Jews.
And in every province, and in every city,
whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and
gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews
fell upon them.
In every province and every city, wherever the king’s edict and decree reached, there was joy and
gladness among the Jews, with feasting and
celebrating. And many of the people of the land themselves became Jews, because the fear of the Jews had fallen upon them.
The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their
hurt: and no man could
withstand them; for the fear of them
fell upon all people.
In each of the provinces of King
Xerxes, the Jews assembled in their cities to attack those who sought to
harm them. No man could
withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen upon all peoples.
And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the
deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of
Mordecai fell upon them.
And all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and the king’s administrators helped the Jews, because the fear of
Mordecai had fallen upon them.
And the
Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away;
yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
the
Sabeans swooped down and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was still speaking, another
messenger came and reported: “The fire of God
fell from heaven. It burned and consumed the sheep and the servants, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and
fell upon the camels, and have carried them away,
yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was still speaking, another
messenger came and reported: “The Chaldeans formed three bands,
raided the camels, and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and
smote the four corners of the house, and it
fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It
collapsed on the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
Then Job arose, and rent his
mantle, and
shaved his head, and
fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
Then Job stood up,
tore his
robe, and
shaved his head. He
fell to the ground and worshiped,
When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
But when I hoped for good, evil came; when I looked for light, darkness fell.
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they
stumbled and
fell.
When the wicked came upon me to
devour my flesh, my enemies and foes
stumbled and
fell.
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath
anointed thee with the oil of
gladness above thy
fellows.
You have loved righteousness and
hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has
anointed you above your companions with the oil of joy.
We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.
We shared sweet
fellowship together; we walked with the crowd into the house of God.
And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
He felled them in the midst of their camp, all around their dwellings.
Their priests
fell by the sword; and their widows made no
lamentation.
His priests
fell by the sword, but their widows could not
lament.
Shall the throne of iniquity have
fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?
Can a corrupt throne be Your ally— one
devising mischief by decree?
Egypt was
glad when they departed: for the fear of them
fell upon them.
Egypt was
glad when they departed, for the
dread of Israel had fallen on them.
Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
He humbled their hearts with hard labor; they
stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Remember, O LORD, the children of
Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said,
Rase it,
rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
Remember, O LORD, the sons of
Edom on the day Jerusalem
fell: “Destroy it,” they said, “
tear it down to its foundations!”
For if they fall, the one will lift up his
fellow: but
woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but
pity the one who falls without another to help him up!
But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a
teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.
And though a tenth remains in the land, it will be burned again. As the
terebinth and oak leave stumps when
felled, so the holy seed will be a
stump in the land.”
The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with
hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
“The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild with finished stone; the sycamores have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.”
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall
lop the
bough with terror: and the high ones of
stature shall be
hewn down, and the
haughty shall be humbled.
Behold, the Lord GOD of Hosts will
lop off the branches with
terrifying power. The tall trees will be cut down, the lofty ones will be
