For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up
hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
for it is better that he says to you, “Come up here!” than that you should be demoted in the presence of the prince. Even what you have seen with your own eyes,

her hideth the wind, and the

anyone in Jerusalem before me,

Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.

her hands as bands:
whoso pleaseth God shall escape from
her; but the
sinner shall be taken by
her.

snare, whose heart is a net, and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God escapes
her, but the
sinner is ensnared.
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the
womb of
her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.
The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh
leaping upon the mountains,
skipping upon the hills.

Here he comes,
leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills.

her green figs, and the vines with the tender

fragrance. Arise, come away, my
darling; come away with me, my beautiful one.”

Come with me from
Lebanon, my
spouse, with me from
Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and
Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.
Come with me from
Lebanon, my
bride, come with me from
Lebanon! Descend from the
peak of Amana, from the summits of Senir and
Hermon, from the dens of the lions, from the mountains of the leopards.
My
dove, my
undefiled is but one; she is the only one of
her mother, she is the choice one of
her that bare
her. The daughters saw
her, and blessed
her;
yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised
her.
but my
dove, my perfect one, is unique, the
favorite of the mother who bore
her. The maidens see
her and call
her blessed; the queens and concubines sing
her praises.
Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness,
leaning upon
her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.
Who is this coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on
her beloved? I
roused you under the apple tree; there your mother conceived you; there she
travailed and brought you forth.

We have a little sister, and her breasts are not yet grown. What shall we do for our sister on the day she is spoken for?
If she be a wall, we will build upon
her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose
her with boards of
cedar.
If she is a wall, we will build a tower of silver upon
her. If she is a door, we will
enclose her with panels of
cedar.
How is the faithful city become an
harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness
lodged in it; but now murderers.
See how the faithful city has become a
harlot! She once was full of justice; righteousness resided within
her, but now only murderers!
Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and
her converts with righteousness.
Zion will be redeemed with justice,
her repentant ones with righteousness.
And the gates of
Zion will
lament and
mourn; destitute, she will sit on the ground.
And the LORD will
create upon every dwelling place of mount
Zion, and upon
her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the
shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.
Then the LORD will
create over all of Mount
Zion and over
her assemblies a cloud of smoke by day and a
glowing flame of fire by night. For over all the glory there will be a
canopy,
Therefore
hell hath enlarged
herself, and opened
her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their
pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.
Therefore
Sheol enlarges its throat and opens wide its enormous jaws, and down go
Zion’s nobles and masses,
her revelers and carousers!
Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to
mingle strong drink:
Woe to those who are
heroes in drinking wine and champions in
mixing strong drink,
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!”
For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be
forsaken of both
her kings.
For before the boy knows enough to
reject evil and choose good, the land of the two kings you
dread will be laid waste.
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount
Zion.
Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me as signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD of Hosts, who dwells on Mount
Zion.
Nevertheless, there will be no more
gloom for those in distress. In the past He humbled the land of
Zebulun and the land of
Naphtali, but in the future He will honor the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the nations:
Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
and as I have done to Samaria and its idols, will I not also do to Jerusalem and her idols?”
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be
darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause
her light to
shine.
For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light. The rising sun will be
darkened, and the moon will not give its light.
Therefore I will
shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of
her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.
Therefore I will make the heavens
tremble, and the earth will be
shaken from its place at the wrath of the LORD of Hosts on the day of His burning anger.
But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of
doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
But desert creatures will lie down there, and
howling creatures will fill
her houses. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will
leap about.
And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their
desolate houses, and
dragons in their pleasant palaces: and
her time is near to come, and
her days shall not be prolonged.
Hyenas will
howl in
her fortresses and jackals in
her luxurious palaces. Babylon’s time is at hand, and
her days will not be prolonged.
For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and
remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.
“I will rise up against them,” declares the LORD of Hosts. “I will cut off from Babylon
her name and
her remnant,
her offspring and
her posterity,” declares the LORD.
I will also make it a possession for the
bittern, and pools of water: and I will
sweep it with the
besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.
“I will make
her a place for owls and for swamplands; I will
sweep her away with the
broom of destruction,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall
flee unto Zoar, an
heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with
weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.
My heart
cries out over Moab;
her fugitives
flee as far as Zoar, as far as Eglath-shelishiyah. With
weeping they
ascend the slope of Luhith; they
lament their destruction on the road to Horonaim.
For the fields of
Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof, they are come even unto Jazer, they
wandered through the wilderness:
her branches are stretched out, they are gone over the sea.
For the fields of
Heshbon have
withered, along with the grapevines of Sibmah. The rulers of the nations have
trampled its choicest vines, which had reached as far as Jazer and spread toward the desert. Their shoots had spread out and passed over the sea.
Wherefore my
bowels shall sound like an
harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir-haresh.
Therefore my heart laments for Moab like a
harp, my inmost being for Kir-
heres.
But now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an
hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be
contemned, with all that great multitude; and the
remnant shall be very small and feeble.
And now the LORD says, “In three years, as a
hired worker counts the years, Moab’s
splendor will become an object of contempt, with all
her many people. And those who are left will be few and feeble.”
For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon
herbs, and like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.
For this is what the LORD has told me: “I will quietly look on from My dwelling place, like
shimmering heat in the
sunshine, like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.”
The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of
Noph are
deceived; they have also
seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof.
The princes of Zoan have become fools; the princes of
Memphis are
deceived. The cornerstones of
her tribes have led Egypt
astray.
The LORD hath mingled a
perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to
err in every work thereof, as a
drunken man staggereth in his
vomit.
The LORD has poured into
her a spirit of confusion. Egypt has been led
astray in all she does, as a
drunkard staggers through his own
vomit.
In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a
pillar at the border thereof to the LORD.
In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the center of the land of Egypt, and a
pillar to the LORD near
her border.
A
dire vision is declared to me: “The
traitor still betrays, and the destroyer still destroys. Go up, O
Elam! Lay siege, O Media! I will put an end to all
her groaning.”
And, behold,
here cometh a
chariot of men, with a couple of
horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the
graven images of
her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
Look,
here come the riders,
horsemen in pairs.” And one answered, saying: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! All the images of
her gods lie
shattered on the ground!”
What hast thou
here? and whom hast thou
here, that thou hast
hewed thee out a
sepulchre here, as he that heweth him out a
sepulchre on high, and that graveth an
habitation for himself in a rock?
What are you doing
here, and who authorized you to
carve out a tomb for
yourself here—to
chisel your tomb in the height and cut your resting place in the rock?
And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is
her revenue; and she is a
mart of nations.
On the great waters came the grain of Shihor; the harvest of the Nile was the revenue of Tyre; she was the merchant of the nations.
Is this your
joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days?
her own feet shall carry
her afar off to
sojourn.
Is this your
jubilant city, whose origin is from antiquity, whose feet have taken
her to settle far away?
And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to
her hire, and shall commit
fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.
And at the end of seventy years, the LORD will restore Tyre. Then she will return to
hire as a
prostitute and sell
herself to all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.
Yet her profits and wages will be set apart to the LORD; they will not be stored or saved, for her profit will go to those who live before the LORD, for abundant food and fine clothing.
And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the
maid, so with
her mistress; as with the
buyer, so with the seller; as with the
lender, so with the
borrower; as with the taker of
usury, so with the giver of
usury to him.
Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of
her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in
her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.
As a woman with child about to give birth writhes and
cries out in pain, so were we in Your presence, O LORD.
Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise.
Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy
dew is as the
dew of
herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For your
dew is like the
dew of the morning, and the earth will bring forth
her dead.
For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to
punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose
her blood, and shall no more cover
her slain.
For behold, the LORD is coming out of His dwelling to
punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will
reveal her bloodshed and will no longer
conceal her slain.
In that day sing ye unto
her, A
vineyard of red wine.
In that day: “Sing about a fruitful
vineyard.
Hath he
smitten him, as he
smote those that
smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?
Has the LORD struck Israel as He struck her oppressors? Was she killed like those who slayed her?
In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou
wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.
By warfare and exile You
contended with
her and removed
her with a fierce wind, as on the day the east wind blows.
For they hear: “Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line; a little here, a little there.”
But the word of the LORD was unto them
precept upon
precept,
precept upon
precept; line upon line, line upon line;
here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and
snared, and taken.
Then the word of the LORD to them will become: “Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line; a little
here, a little there,” so that they will go
stumbling backward and will be injured, ensnared, and captured.
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against
Ariel, even all that fight against
her and
her munition, and that distress
her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.
All the many nations going out to battle against
Ariel— even all who war against
her, laying siege and attacking
her— will be like a dream, like a vision in the night,
For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I
cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.
Egypt’s help is
futile and empty; therefore I have called
her Rahab Who Sits Still.
And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into
brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.
Edom’s streams will be turned to tar, and
her soil to sulfur;
her land will become a
blazing pitch.
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
No nobles will be left to
proclaim a king, and all
her princes will come to nothing.
And thorns shall come up in
her palaces,
nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an
habitation of
dragons, and a court for owls.
Her towers will be overgrown with thorns,
her fortresses with thistles and briers. She will become a
haunt for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the
satyr shall cry to his fellow; the
screech owl also shall rest there, and find for
herself a place of rest.
The desert creatures will meet with
hyenas, and one wild goat will call to another. There the night creature will settle and find
her place of
repose.
There shall the great
owl make
her nest, and lay, and
hatch, and gather under
her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with
her mate.
There the
owl will make
her nest; she will lay and
hatch her eggs and gather
her brood under
her shadow. Even there the birds of prey will gather, each with its
mate.
Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want
her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
Search and read the
scroll of the LORD: Not one of these will go missing, not one will lack
her mate, because He has ordered it by His mouth, and He will gather them by His Spirit.
This is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of
Zion, hath
despised thee, and
laughed thee to
scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath
shaken her head at thee.
this is the word that the LORD has spoken against him: ‘The Virgin Daughter of
Zion despises you and mocks you; the Daughter of Jerusalem shakes
her head behind you.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and
ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
Speak ye
comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto
her, that
her warfare is accomplished, that
her iniquity is
pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all
her sins.
“Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and
proclaim to
her that
her forced labor has been completed;
her iniquity has been
pardoned. For she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all
her sins.”
O
Zion, that bringest good
tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good
tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
Go up on a high mountain, O
Zion,
herald of good news. Raise your voice loudly, O Jerusalem,
herald of good news. Lift it up, do not be afraid! Say to the cities of Judah, “
Here is your God!”
Shew the things that are to come
hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods:
yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
Tell us the things that are to come, so that we may know that you are gods.
Yes, do something good or evil, that we may look on together in dismay.
The first shall say to
Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good
tidings.
I was the first to tell
Zion: ‘Look,
here they are!’ And I gave to Jerusalem a
herald of good news.
Behold my servant, whom I
uphold; mine
elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
“
Here is My Servant, whom I
uphold, My Chosen One, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will bring justice to the nations.
