If any man
trespass against
his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to
swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house:
When a man sins against
his neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants,
condemning the wicked, to bring
his way upon
his head; and
justifying the righteous, to give him according to
his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on
his own head what he has done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to
his righteousness.
What prayer and
supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of
his own heart, and spread forth
his hands toward this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and
forgive, and do, and give to every man according to
his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You
forgive and act, and repay each man according to all
his ways, since You know
his heart—for You alone know the hearts of all men—
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away
captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to
his own land, whether far or near,
And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and
supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from
kneeling on
his knees with
his hands spread up to heaven.
Now when Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and petition to the LORD, he got up before the altar of the LORD, where he had been
kneeling with
his hands spread out toward heaven.
Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
“Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises He made through His servant Moses.
That he may
incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all
his ways, and to keep
his commandments, and
his statutes, and
his judgments, which he commanded our fathers.
May He
incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all
His ways and to keep the commandments and statutes and ordinances He commanded our fathers.
And let these my words,
wherewith I have made
supplication before the LORD, be
nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of
his servant, and the cause of
his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:
And may these words with which I have made my petition before the LORD be near to the LORD our God day and night, so that He may
uphold the cause of
His servant and of
His people Israel as each day requires,
Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
So let your heart be fully devoted to the LORD our God, as it is this day, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments.”
On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and
glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David
his servant, and for Israel
his people.
On the
fifteenth day Solomon sent the people away. So they blessed the king and went home, joyful and
glad in heart for all the good things that the LORD had done for
His servant David and for
His people Israel.
And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be
astonished, and shall
hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and will
hiss and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
(Now
Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with
cedar trees and
fir trees, and with gold, according to all
his desire,) that then king Solomon gave
Hiram twenty cities in the land of
Galilee.
King Solomon gave twenty towns in the land of
Galilee to
Hiram king of Tyre, who had supplied him with
cedar and
cypress logs and gold for
his every desire.
And this is the reason of the
levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and
his own house, and
Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon imposed to build the house of the LORD,
his own palace, the supporting terraces, and the wall of Jerusalem, as well as Hazor,
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken
Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the
Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto
his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured
Gezer. He had set it on fire, killed the
Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it as a
dowry to
his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for
his chariots, and cities for
his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in
Lebanon, and in all the land of
his dominion.
as well as all the store cities that Solomon had for
his chariots and horses—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem,
Lebanon, and throughout the land of
his dominion.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no
bondmen: but they were men of war, and
his servants, and
his princes, and
his captains, and rulers of
his chariots, and
his horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slavery, because they were
his men of war,
his servants,
his officers,
his captains, and the commanders of
his chariots and cavalry.
And
Hiram sent in the navy
his servants,
shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
And
Hiram sent
his servants, men who knew the sea, to serve in the fleet with Solomon’s servants.
And the meat of
his table, and the sitting of
his servants, and the attendance of
his ministers, and their
apparel, and
his cupbearers, and
his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
the food at
his table, the seating of
his servants, the service and
attire of
his attendants and cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.
And king Solomon gave unto the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of
his royal
bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.
King Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—besides what he had given her out of
his royal
bounty. Then she left and returned to her own country, along with her servants.
And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
The whole world sought an
audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in
his heart.
And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armour, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
Year after year, each
visitor would bring
his tribute: articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines—and his wives turned his heart away.
For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
For when Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and he was not wholeheartedly devoted to the LORD his God, as his father David had been.
And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
So Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; unlike his father David, he did not follow the LORD completely.
And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.
He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
And the LORD was
angry with Solomon, because
his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
Now the LORD grew
angry with Solomon, because
his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.
That
Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of
his father’s servants with him, to go into Egypt;
Hadad being yet a little child.
But
Hadad, still just a young boy, had fled to Egypt, along with some Edomites who were servants of
his father.
And they arose out of
Midian, and came to
Paran: and they took men with them out of
Paran, and they came to Egypt, unto Pharaoh king of Egypt; which gave him an house, and appointed him
victuals, and gave him land.
Hadad and
his men set out from
Midian and went to
Paran. They took men from
Paran with them and went to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave
Hadad a house and land and provided him with food.
And
Hadad found great favour in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of
his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.
There
Hadad found such great favor in the sight of Pharaoh that he gave to him in marriage the sister of Queen Tahpenes,
his own wife.
And the sister of Tahpenes bare him Genubath
his son, whom Tahpenes
weaned in Pharaoh’s house: and Genubath was in Pharaoh’s household among the sons of Pharaoh.
And the sister of Tahpenes bore
Hadad a son named Genubath. Tahpenes herself
weaned him in Pharaoh’s palace, and Genubath lived there among the sons of Pharaoh.
And when
Hadad heard in Egypt that David
slept with
his fathers, and that
Joab the captain of the host was dead,
Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to mine own country.
When
Hadad heard in Egypt that David had rested with
his fathers and that
Joab, the commander of the army, was dead, he said to Pharaoh, “Let me go, that I may return to my own country.”
And God
stirred him up another
adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, which fled from
his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah:
And God raised up against Solomon another
adversary, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from
his master, Hadadezer king of Zobah,
And
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon’s servant, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he lifted up
his hand against the king.
Now
Jeroboam son of Nebat was an Ephraimite from Zeredah whose mother was a widow named Zeruah.
Jeroboam was a servant of Solomon, but he rebelled against the king,
And this was the cause that he lifted up
his hand against the king: Solomon built
Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David
his father.
and this is the account of
his rebellion against the king. Solomon had built the supporting terraces and repaired the
gap in the wall of the city of
his father David.
Because that they have
forsaken me, and have worshipped
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of
Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David
his father.
For they have
forsaken Me to worship
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the
Ammonites. They have not walked in My ways, nor done what is right in My eyes, nor kept My statutes and judgments, as Solomon’s father David did.
Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of
his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of
his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes.
But I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes.
But I will take ten tribes of the kingdom from the hand of his son and give them to you.
And unto
his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light
alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.
I will give one tribe to his son, so that My servant David will always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put My Name.
And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?
As for the rest of the acts of Solomon—all that he did, as well as his wisdom—are they not written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon?
And Solomon
slept with
his fathers, and was buried in the city of David
his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in
his stead.
And Solomon rested with
his fathers and was buried in the city of
his father David. And
his son
Rehoboam reigned in
his place.
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore make thou the
grievous service of thy father, and
his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
And king
Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon
his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye
advise that I may answer this people?
Then King
Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served
his father Solomon during
his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
Wherefore the king
hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform
his saying, which the LORD spake by
Ahijah the Shilonite unto
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from the LORD, to
fulfill the word He had spoken to
Jeroboam son of Nebat through
Ahijah the Shilonite.
Then king
Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to
his chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Adoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted
his chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to
his house; for this thing is from me. They
hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers, the Israelites. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the word of the LORD and turned back according to the word of the LORD.
And
Jeroboam said in
his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:
Jeroboam said in
his heart, “Now the kingdom might
revert to the house of David.
So he offered upon the altar which he had made in
Bethel the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of
his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
On the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of
his own choosing,
Jeroboam offered sacrifices on the altar he had set up in
Bethel. So he ordained a feast for the Israelites, offered sacrifices on the altar, and burned incense.
And it came to pass, when king
Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had
cried against the altar in
Bethel, that he put forth
his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And
his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
Now when King
Jeroboam, who was at the altar in
Bethel, heard the word that the man of God had
cried out against it, he stretched out
his hand and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward him
withered, so that he could not pull it back.
Now there dwelt an old prophet in
Bethel; and
his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in
Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
Now a certain old prophet was living in
Bethel, and
his sons came and told him all the deeds that the man of God had done that day in
Bethel. They also told their father the words that the man had spoken to the king.
And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah.
“Which way did he go?” their father asked. And his sons showed him the way taken by the man of God, who had come from Judah.
So he went back with him, and did eat bread in
his house, and
drank water.
but the man of God went back with him,
ate bread in
his house, and
drank water.
And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and
slew him: and
his carcase was cast in the way, and the
ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the
carcase.
As he went on
his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and
his body was left lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it.
And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was
disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath
torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
When the prophet who had brought him back from
his journey heard this, he said, “It is the man of God who disobeyed the command of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, and it has
mauled him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to him.”
and he went and found the body lying in the road, with the
donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had not eaten the body or
mauled the
donkey.
And the prophet took up the
carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the
ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to
mourn and to
bury him.
So the old prophet lifted up the body of the man of God, laid it on the
donkey, and brought it back to
his own city to
mourn for him and
bury him.
And he laid
his carcase in
his own grave; and they
mourned over him, saying,
Alas, my brother!
Then he laid the body in
his own tomb, and they
lamented over him, “Oh, my brother!”
And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to
his sons, saying, When I am dead, then
bury me in the
sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside
his bones:
After he had buried him, the prophet said to
his sons, “When I die, you must
bury me in the tomb where the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside
his bones,
After this thing
Jeroboam returned not from
his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places:
whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.
Even after these events,
Jeroboam did not
repent of
his evil ways, but again he appointed priests for the high places from every class of people. He ordained
anyone who desired to be a priest of the high places.
And
Jeroboam said to
his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and
disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of
Jeroboam; and get thee to
Shiloh: behold, there is
Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.
And
Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to
Shiloh, and came to the house of
Ahijah. But
Ahijah could not see; for
his eyes were set by reason of
his age.
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
I
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you were not like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all
his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes.
And they buried him; and all Israel
mourned for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by the hand of
his servant
Ahijah the prophet.
And they buried him, and all Israel
mourned for him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through
His servant
Ahijah the prophet.
And the days which
Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he
slept with
his fathers, and
Nadab his son reigned in
his stead.
And the length of
Jeroboam’s reign was twenty-two years, and he rested with
his fathers, and
his son
Nadab reigned in
his place.
And
Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah.
Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put
his name there. And
his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Meanwhile,
Rehoboam son of Solomon reigned in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put
His Name.
His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
And
Rehoboam slept with
his fathers, and was buried with
his fathers in the city of David. And
his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam
his son reigned in
his stead.
And
Rehoboam rested with
his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David;
his mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite. And
his son Abijam reigned in
his place.
Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
and he reigned in Jerusalem three years.
His mother’s name was
Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
And Abijam walked in all the sins that
his father before him had committed, and
his heart was not as fully devoted to the LORD
his God as the heart of David
his forefather had been.
Nevertheless for David’s sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:
Nevertheless, for the sake of David, the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and to make Jerusalem strong.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
And there was war between the houses of
Rehoboam and
Jeroboam all the days of Abijam’s life.
Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and
Jeroboam.
As for the rest of the acts of Abijam, along with all
his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and
Jeroboam.
And Abijam
slept with
his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his son reigned in
his stead.
And Abijam rested with
his fathers and was buried in the City of David, and
his son
Asa reigned in
his place.
And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years.
His grandmother’s name was
Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
And
Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David
his father.
And
Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as
his father David had done.
And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
He banished the male
shrine prostitutes from the land and removed all the idols that
his fathers had made.
And also Maachah
his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an
idol in a
grove; and
Asa destroyed her
idol, and burnt it by the
brook Kidron.
But the high places were not removed: nevertheless
Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all
his days.
The high places were not removed, but
Asa’s heart was fully devoted to the LORD all
his days.
And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.
And he brought into the house of the LORD the silver and gold and other articles that he and his father had dedicated.
Then
Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of
his servants: and king
Asa sent them to Ben-
hadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
So
Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace. He entrusted it to
his servants and sent them with this message to Ben-
hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion king of
Aram, who was ruling in Damascus:
The rest of all the acts of
Asa, and all
his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of
his old age he was diseased in
his feet.
Now the rest of the acts of
Asa, along with all
his might, all
his accomplishments, and the cities he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? In
his old age, however, he became diseased in
his feet.
And
Asa slept with
his fathers, and was buried with
his fathers in the city of David
his father: and
Jehoshaphat his son reigned in
his stead.
And
Asa rested with
his fathers and was buried with them in the city of
his father David, and
his son
Jehoshaphat reigned in
his place.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of
his father, and in
his sin
wherewith he made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
Even in the third year of
Asa king of Judah did
Baasha slay him, and reigned in
his stead.
In the third year of
Asa’s reign over Judah,
Baasha killed
Nadab and reigned in
his place.
And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he
smote all the house of
Jeroboam; he left not to
Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by
his servant
Ahijah the Shilonite:
As soon as
Baasha became king, he struck down the entire household of
Jeroboam. He did not leave to
Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all according to the word that the LORD had spoken through
His servant
Ahijah the Shilonite,
because of the sins
Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he had
provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger.
Now the rest of the acts of
Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of
Nadab, along with all
his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of
Jeroboam, and in
his sin
wherewith he made Israel to sin.
And
Baasha did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of
Jeroboam and in
his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
So now I will
consume Baasha and
his house, and I will make your house like that of
Jeroboam son of Nebat:
Him that dieth of
Baasha in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth of
his in the fields shall the fowls of the air eat.
Anyone belonging to
Baasha who dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and
anyone who dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the air.”
Now the rest of the acts of
Baasha, and what he did, and
his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of
Baasha, along with
his accomplishments and might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
So
Baasha slept with
his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah: and Elah
his son reigned in
his stead.
And
Baasha rested with
his fathers and was buried in Tirzah, and
his son Elah reigned in
his place.
And also by the hand of the prophet
Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against
Baasha, and against
his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in
provoking him to anger with the work of
his hands, in being like the house of
Jeroboam; and because he killed him.
Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet
Jehu son of Hanani against
Baasha and
his house, because of all the evil he had done in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger with the work of
his hands and becoming like the house of
Jeroboam, and also because
Baasha had struck down the house of
Jeroboam.
And
his servant Zimri, captain of half
his chariots,
conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself
drunk in the house of Arza
steward of
his house in Tirzah.
However, while Elah was in Tirzah getting
drunk in the house of Arza the
steward of
his household there, Elah’s servant Zimri, the commander of half
his chariots,
conspired against him.
And Zimri went in and
smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of
Asa king of Judah, and reigned in
his stead.
So in the twenty-seventh year of
Asa’s reign over Judah, Zimri went in, struck Elah down, and killed him. And Zimri reigned in
his place.
And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on
his throne, that he
slew all the house of
Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of
his kinsfolks, nor of
his friends.
As soon as Zimri began to reign and was seated on the throne, he struck down the entire household of
Baasha. He did not leave a single male, whether a
kinsman or friend.
For all the sins of
Baasha, and the sins of Elah
his son, by which they
sinned, and by which they made Israel to sin, in
provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their
vanities.
This happened because of all the sins
Baasha and
his son Elah had committed and had caused Israel to commit,
provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger with their worthless idols.
