And now art thou
cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to
receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
Now you are
cursed and banished from the ground, which has opened its mouth to
receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
Then Isaac
sowed in that land, and
received in the same year an
hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
And Jacob said,
Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then
receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou
wast pleased with me.
But Jacob insisted, “No, please! If I have found favor in your sight, then
receive this gift from my hand. For indeed, I have seen your face, and it is like seeing the face of God, since you have
received me
favorably.
And Judah sent the
kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to
receive his
pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.
Now when Judah sent his friend Hirah the Adullamite with the young goat to collect the items he had left with the woman, he could not find her.
And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you
treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought
Simeon out unto them.
“It is fine,” said the
steward. “Do not be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, gave you the
treasure that was in your sacks. I
received your silver.” Then he brought
Simeon out to them.
Then Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her back,
After Moses had sent back his wife Zipporah, his father-in-law Jethro had received her,
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
“Tell the Israelites to bring Me an offering. You are to receive My offering from every man whose heart compels him.
And thou shalt make his pans to receive his ashes, and his shovels, and his basons, and his fleshhooks, and his firepans: all the vessels thereof thou shalt make of brass.
Make all its utensils of bronze—its pots for removing ashes, its shovels, its
sprinkling bowls, its meat forks, and its firepans.
And thou shalt receive them of their hands, and burn them upon the altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the LORD: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar
atop the burnt offering as a pleasing
aroma before the LORD; it is an offering made by fire to the LORD.
And he
received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a
molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
He took the gold from their hands, and with an engraving tool he fashioned it into a
molten calf. And they said, “These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
And they
received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it
withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning.
They
received from Moses all the contributions that the Israelites had brought to carry out the service of constructing the sanctuary. Meanwhile, the people continued to bring
freewill offerings morning after morning,
As long as it lieth
desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.
As long as it lies
desolate, the land will have the rest it did not
receive during the Sabbaths when you lived in it.
And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but
spit in her face, should she not be
ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be
received in again.
But the LORD answered Moses, “If her father had but
spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the camp for seven days; after that she may be brought back in.”
But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.
The Levites are to perform the work of the Tent of Meeting, and they must bear their iniquity. This is a permanent statute for the generations to come. The Levites will not receive an inheritance among the Israelites.
But the
tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an
heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to
inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.
For I have given to the Levites as their inheritance the
tithe that the Israelites present to the LORD as a contribution. That is why I told them that they would not
receive an inheritance among the Israelites.”
Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the
tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an
heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the
tithe.
“Speak to the Levites and tell them: ‘When you
receive from the Israelites the
tithe that I have given you as your inheritance, you must present part of it as an offering to the LORD—a
tithe of the
tithe.
Thus ye also shall offer an
heave offering unto the LORD of all your
tithes, which ye
receive of the children of Israel; and ye shall give thereof the LORD’S
heave offering to Aaron the priest.
So you are to present an offering to the LORD from all the
tithes you
receive from the Israelites, and from these you are to give the LORD’s offering to Aaron the priest.
Behold, I have
received commandment to
bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.
I have indeed
received a command to
bless; He has blessed, and I cannot change it.
To many thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to few thou shalt give the less inheritance: to every one shall his inheritance be given according to those that were numbered of him.
Increase the inheritance for a large tribe and decrease it for a small one; each tribe is to receive its inheritance according to the number of those registered.
Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall
inherit.
Indeed, the land must be divided by lot; they shall receive their inheritance according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.
And Moses and
Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.
So Moses and
Eleazar the priest
received from them all the articles made out of gold.
And Moses and
Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a
memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.
And Moses and
Eleazar the priest
received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the Tent of Meeting as a
memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man’s inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall
inherit.
And you are to divide the land by lot according to your clans. Give a larger inheritance to a larger clan and a smaller inheritance to a smaller one. Whatever falls to each one by lot will be his. You will receive an inheritance according to the tribes of your fathers.
For the tribe of the children of
Reuben according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of
Gad according to the house of their fathers, have
received their inheritance; and half the tribe of
Manasseh have
received their inheritance:
For the tribes of the Reubenites and Gadites, along with the half-tribe of
Manasseh, have already
received their inheritance.
The two tribes and the half tribe have
received their inheritance on this side Jordan near
Jericho eastward, toward the
sunrising.
These two and a half tribes have
received their inheritance across the Jordan from
Jericho, toward the
sunrise.”
And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are
received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.
But if they marry any of the men from the other tribes of Israel, their inheritance will be withdrawn from the portion of our fathers and added to the tribe into which they marry. So our
allotted inheritance would be taken away.
And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are
received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.
And when the
Jubilee for the Israelites comes, their inheritance will be added to the tribe into which they marry and taken away from the tribe of our fathers.”
When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:
When I went up on the mountain to
receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I
ate no bread and
drank no water.
They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his
patrimony.
They shall eat equal portions, even though he has received money from the sale of his father’s estate.
Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s
landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt
inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
You must not move your
neighbor’s boundary marker, which was set up by your ancestors to mark the inheritance you shall
receive in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.
Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem
vile unto thee.
He may
receive no more than forty lashes, lest your brother be beaten any more than that and be
degraded in your sight.
Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall
receive of thy words.
Surely You love the people; all the holy ones are in Your hand, and they sit down at Your feet; each receives Your words—
For it was of the LORD to
harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.
For it was of the LORD to
harden their hearts to
engage Israel in battle, so that they would be set apart for destruction and would
receive no mercy, being
annihilated as the LORD had commanded Moses.
With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them;
The other half of
Manasseh, along with the Reubenites and Gadites, had
received the inheritance Moses had given them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses the servant of the LORD had assigned to them:
So the children of Joseph,
Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.
So Ephraim and
Manasseh, the sons of Joseph,
received their inheritance.
Because the daughters of
Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of
Manasseh’s sons had the land of
Gilead.
because the daughters of
Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons. And the land of
Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of
Manasseh.
And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.
there were still seven tribes of Israel who had not yet received their inheritance.
But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and
Gad, and
Reuben, and half the tribe of
Manasseh, have
received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.
The Levites, however, have no portion among you, because their inheritance is the priesthood of the LORD. And
Gad,
Reuben, and half the tribe of
Manasseh have already
received the inheritance that Moses the servant of the LORD gave them beyond the Jordan to the east.”
Out of the portion of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of
Simeon: for the part of the children of Judah was too much for them: therefore the children of
Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of them.
The inheritance of the Simeonites was taken from the territory of Judah, because the share for Judah’s descendants was too large for them. So the Simeonites received an inheritance within Judah’s portion.
And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of
Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.
The first lot came out for the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest
received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.
And the rest of the children of
Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of
Dan, and out of the half tribe of
Manasseh, ten cities.
The remaining descendants of
Kohath received ten cities by lot from the tribes of Ephraim,
Dan, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh.
And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of
Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of
Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of
Manasseh in
Bashan, thirteen cities.
The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of
Reuben, and out of the tribe of
Gad, and out of the tribe of
Zebulun, twelve cities.
And the descendants of Merari
received twelve cities from the tribes of
Reuben,
Gad, and
Zebulun.
And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of
Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.
Then the Israelites
received the report: “Behold, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar on the border of the land of
Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the
Israelite side.”
But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
But his wife replied, “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.”
And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.
The
Levite replied, “We are traveling from
Bethlehem in Judah to the remote hill country of Ephraim, where I am from. I went to
Bethlehem in Judah, and now I am going to the house of the LORD; but no one has taken me into his home,
The LORD
recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
May the LORD repay your work, and may you receive a rich reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have taken refuge.”
And they will
salute thee, and give thee two
loaves of bread; which thou shalt
receive of their hands.
They will
greet you and give you two
loaves of bread, which you will accept from their hands.
Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his
anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose
ass have I taken? or whom have I
defrauded? whom have I
oppressed? or of whose hand have I
received any
bribe to blind mine eyes
therewith? and I will restore it you.
Here I am. Bear witness against me before the LORD and before His
anointed: Whose ox or
donkey have I taken? Whom have I
cheated or
oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a
bribe and closed my eyes? Tell me, and I will restore it to you.”
So David
received of her hand that which she had brought him, and said unto her, Go up in peace to thine house; see, I have
hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person.
Then David accepted from her hand what she had brought him, and he said to her, “Go home in peace. See, I have
heeded your voice and granted your request.”
It may be that the LORD will look on mine
affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his
cursing this day.
And the man said unto
Joab, Though I should
receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king’s son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and
Abishai and Ittai, saying,
Beware that none touch the young man
Absalom.
The man replied, “Even if a thousand shekels of silver were
weighed out into my hands, I would not raise my hand against the son of the king. For we heard the king command you and
Abishai and Ittai, ‘Protect the young man
Absalom for my sake.’
Ahimaaz son of
Zadok, however,
persisted and said to
Joab, “Regardless of whatever may happen, please let me also run behind the
Cushite!” “My son,”
Joab replied, “why do you want to run, since you will not
receive a reward?”
And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of
kin to us: wherefore then be ye
angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king’s cost? or hath he given us any gift?
And all the men of Judah replied to the men of Israel, “We did this because the king is our relative. Why does this anger you? Have we ever eaten at the king’s expense or received anything for ourselves?”
And it came to pass, when
Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he
rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
When
Hiram received Solomon’s message, he
rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the LORD this day! He has given David a wise son over this great people!”
And
Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of
cedar, and concerning timber of
fir.
Then
Hiram sent a reply to Solomon, saying: “I have
received your message; I will do all you desire regarding the
cedar and
cypress timber.
My servants shall bring them down from
Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt
appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt
receive them: and thou shalt
accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
My servants will
haul the logs from
Lebanon to the Sea, and I will
float them as rafts by sea to the place you
specify. There I will separate the logs, and you can take them away. And in exchange, you can meet my needs by providing my household with food.”
The same day did the king
hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the
brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to
receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.
On that same day the king consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar before the LORD was too small to contain all these offerings.
And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and Kue; the royal merchants purchased them from Kue.
And all Israel shall
mourn for him, and
bury him: for he only of
Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of
Jeroboam.
All Israel will
mourn for him and
bury him. For this is the only one belonging to
Jeroboam who will
receive a proper burial, because only in him has the LORD, the God of Israel, found any good in the house of
Jeroboam.
And it came to pass, when Ben-
hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set
yourselves in
array. And they set themselves in
array against the city.
Ben-
hadad received this message while he and the kings were drinking in their tents, and he said to his servants, “Take your positions.” So they stationed themselves against the city.
But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.
But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will not accept it.” And although
Naaman urged him to accept it, he refused.
And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his
chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to
receive money, and to
receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?
But
Elisha questioned him, “Did not my spirit go with you when the man got down from his
chariot to meet you? Is this the time to accept money and clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants and maidservants?
Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house,
wheresoever any breach shall be found.
Let every priest
receive it from his
constituency, and let it be used to repair any damage found in the temple.”
Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
So King
Joash called Jehoiada and the other priests and said, “Why have you not repaired the damage to the temple? Now, therefore, take no more money from your
constituency, but hand it over for the repair of the temple.”
And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.
So the priests agreed that they would not receive money from the people and that they would not repair the temple themselves.
Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
No accounting was required from the men who
received the money to pay the workmen, because they acted with
integrity.
And
Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and
Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
So
Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers, read it, and went up to the house of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
And
Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious
ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that
Hezekiah shewed them not.
And
Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his
treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his
armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that
Hezekiah did not show them.
Unto the sons of Gershom were given out of the family of the half tribe of
Manasseh, Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, and
Ashtaroth with her suburbs:
The Gershomites
received the following: From the clan of the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan and also
Ashtaroth, together with their pasturelands.
Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the tribe of
Zebulun.
Rimmon with her suburbs,
Tabor with her suburbs:
The Merarites (the rest of the Levites)
received the following: From the tribe of
Zebulun they were given Rimmono and
Tabor, together with their pasturelands.
Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of
Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David
received them, and made them captains of the band.
Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, and he said: “We are yours, O David! We are with you, O son of
Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers, for your God helps you.” So David
received them and made them leaders of his troops.
And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one
reckoning, according to their father’s house.
Jahath was the first and Zizah was the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were counted as one family and
received a single
assignment.
And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and Kue; the royal merchants purchased them from Kue.
And the thickness of it was an
handbreadth, and the
brim of it like the work of the
brim of a cup, with flowers of
lilies; and it
received and held three thousand baths.
Moreover Solomon
hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to
receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
So they killed the bullocks, and the priests
received the blood, and
sprinkled it on the altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they
sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and they
sprinkled the blood upon the altar.
So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests took the blood and
sprinkled it on the altar. They slaughtered the rams and
sprinkled the blood on the altar. And they slaughtered the lambs and
sprinkled the blood on the altar.
For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find
compassion before them that lead them
captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.
For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and sons will
receive mercy in the presence of their captors and will return to this land. For the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful; He will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.”
And they stood in their place after their manner, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the priests
sprinkled the blood, which they
received of the hand of the Levites.
They stood at their prescribed posts, according to the Law of Moses the man of God. The priests
sprinkled the blood, which they
received from the hand of the Levites.
And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his
supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.
And when he prayed to Him, the LORD
received his
plea and heard his petition; so He brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and
graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.
His prayer and how God
received his
plea, as well as all his sin and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the Seers.
And that we should bring the firstfruits of our
dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the
tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the
tithes in all the cities of our
tillage.
Moreover, we will bring to the priests at the storerooms of the house of our God the firstfruits of our
dough, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees, and of our new wine and oil. A tenth of our produce belongs to the Levites, so that they shall
receive tithes in all the towns where we labor.
Now when every
maid’s turn was come to go in to king
Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of
myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the
purifying of the women;)
In the twelve months before her turn to go to King
Xerxes, the
harem regulation required each young woman to
receive beauty treatments with oil of
myrrh for six months, and then with perfumes and cosmetics for another six months.
When
Esther’s maidens and eunuchs came and told her about
Mordecai, the queen was overcome with distress. She sent clothes for
Mordecai to wear instead of his
sackcloth, but he would not accept them.
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the
foolish women speaketh. What? shall we
receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not
receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
“You speak as a
foolish woman speaks,” he told her. “Should we accept from God only good and not
adversity?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.
Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should
suck?
Why were there knees to
receive me, and breasts that I should be
nursed?
Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
Now a word came to me secretly; my ears caught a
whisper of it.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
If his sons receive honor, he does not know it; if they are brought low, he is unaware.
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Receive instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart.
This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the
heritage of oppressors, which they shall
receive of the
Almighty.
If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
If you are righteous, what do you give Him, or what does He receive from your hand?
The LORD hath heard my
