Is it not yet a very little while, and
Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field
shall be esteemed as a forest?
And in that day
shall the
deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind
shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.
On that day the
deaf will hear the words of the
scroll, and out of the deep darkness the eyes of the blind will see.
The
meek also
shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men
shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
The humble will increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men will
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob
shall not now be
ashamed, neither
shall his face now wax pale.
Therefore the LORD who redeemed Abraham says of the house of Jacob: “No longer will Jacob be
ashamed and no more will his face grow pale.
But when he
seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they
shall sanctify my name, and
sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and
shall fear the God of Israel.
For when he sees his children around him, the work of My hands, they will honor My name, they will
sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and they will stand in
awe of the God of Israel.
They also that
erred in spirit
shall come to understanding, and they that
murmured shall learn doctrine.
Then the
wayward in spirit will come to understanding, and those who
grumble will accept instruction.”
Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and the refuge of Egypt’s shade your disgrace.
The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and
anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the
viper and
fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young
asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that
shall not profit them.
This is the burden against the beasts of the Negev: Through a land of
hardship and distress, of
lioness and lion, of
viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of
donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people of no profit to them.
For the Egyptians
shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I
cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.
Egypt’s help is
futile and empty; therefore I have called her
Rahab Who Sits Still.
Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
this iniquity of yours is like a breach about to fail, a
bulge in a high wall, whose
collapse will come suddenly— in an instant!
And he
shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he
shall not
spare: so that there
shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the pit.
For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: “By
repentance and rest you would be saved; your strength would lie in quiet confidence— but you were not willing.”
But ye said, No; for we will
flee upon horses; therefore
shall ye
flee: and, We will
ride upon the swift; therefore
shall they that pursue you be swift.
“No,” you say, “we will
flee on horses.” Therefore you will
flee! “We will
ride swift horses,” but your pursuers will be faster.
One thousand
shall flee at the
rebuke of one; at the
rebuke of five
shall ye
flee: till ye be left as a
beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an
ensign on an hill.
A thousand will
flee at the
threat of one; at the
threat of five you will all
flee, until you are left alone like a pole on a mountaintop, like a
banner on a hill.
For the people
shall dwell in
Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt
weep no more: he will be very
gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he
shall hear it, he will answer thee.
O people in
Zion who dwell in Jerusalem, you will
weep no more. He will surely be
gracious when you cry for help; when He hears, He will answer you.
And though the Lord give you the bread of
adversity, and the water of
affliction, yet
shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes
shall see thy teachers:
The Lord will give you the bread of
adversity and the water of
affliction, but your Teacher will no longer hide Himself—with your own eyes you will see Him.
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
Ye
shall defile also the covering of thy
graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy
molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a
menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.
So you will
desecrate your silver-plated idols and your gold-plated images. You will throw them away like
menstrual cloths, saying to them, “Be gone!”
Then
shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt
sow the ground
withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it
shall be fat and
plenteous: in that day
shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.
Then He will send rain for the seed that you have sown in the ground, and the food that comes from your land will be rich and
plentiful. On that day your cattle will
graze in open pastures.
And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.
And from every high mountain and every raised hill, streams of water will flow in the day of great slaughter, when the towers fall.
Moreover the light of the moon
shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun
shall be
sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.
The light of the moon will be as bright as the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter—like the light of seven days—on the day that the LORD binds up the brokenness of His people and heals the wounds He has inflicted.
And his breath, as an overflowing stream,
shall reach to the midst of the neck, to
sift the nations with the
sieve of vanity: and there
shall be a
bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to
err.
His breath is like a
rushing torrent that rises to the neck. He comes to
sift the nations in a
sieve of destruction; He bridles the jaws of the peoples to lead them
astray.
Ye
shall have a song, as in the night when a holy
solemnity is kept; and
gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.
You will sing as on the night of a holy festival, and your heart will
rejoice like one who walks to the music of a
flute, going up to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.
And the LORD
shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and
shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the
indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a
devouring fire, with
scattering, and
tempest, and hailstones.
And the LORD will cause His
majestic voice to be heard and His mighty arm to be revealed, striking in
angry wrath with a flame of
consuming fire, and with cloudburst, storm, and hailstones.
For through the voice of the LORD
shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which
smote with a rod.
For Assyria will be
shattered at the voice of the LORD; He will strike them with His
scepter.
And in every place where the grounded staff
shall pass, which the LORD
shall lay upon him, it
shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of
shaking will he fight with it.
And with every stroke of the rod of punishment that the LORD brings down on them, the tambourines and lyres will sound as He battles with weapons
brandished.
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD
shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth
shall fall, and he that is
holpen shall fall down, and they all
shall fail together.
But the Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, the helper will
stumble, and the one he helps will fall; both will perish together.
For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion
roaring on his prey, when a multitude of
shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor
abase himself for the noise of them: so
shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount
Zion, and for the hill thereof.
For this is what the LORD has said to me: “Like a lion
roaring or a young lion over its prey— and though a band of
shepherds is called out against it, it is not
terrified by their
shouting or subdued by their
clamor— so the LORD of Hosts will come down to do battle on Mount
Zion and its heights.
For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.
For on that day, every one of you will
reject the idols of silver and gold that your own hands have
sinfully made.
Then
shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man,
shall devour him: but he
shall flee from the sword, and his young men
shall be
discomfited.
“Then Assyria will fall, but not by the sword of man; a sword will
devour them, but not one made by mortals. They will
flee before the sword, and their young men will be put to forced labor.
And he
shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes
shall be afraid of the
ensign, saith the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
Their rock will pass away for fear, and their princes will
panic at the sight of the battle standard,” declares the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.
And a man
shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a
covert from the
tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a
weary land.
Each will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in a dry land, like the shadow of a great rock in an
arid land.
And the eyes of them that see
shall not be
dim, and the ears of them that hear
shall hearken.
Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will
listen.
The heart also of the
rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers
shall be ready to speak plainly.
No longer will a
fool be called noble, nor a
scoundrel be respected.
But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.
But a noble man makes honorable plans; he stands up for worthy causes.
Many days and years
shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the
vintage shall fail, the gathering
shall not come.
In a little more than a year you will
tremble, O secure ones. For the
grape harvest will fail and the fruit harvest will not arrive.
They
shall lament for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.
Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vines,
Upon the land of my people
shall come up thorns and briers;
yea, upon all the houses of joy in the
joyous city:
and for the land of my people, overgrown with thorns and briers— even for every house of
merriment in this city of
revelry.
Because the palaces
shall be
forsaken; the multitude of the city
shall be left; the forts and towers
shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild
asses, a pasture of flocks;
Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.
Then justice will inhabit the wilderness, and righteousness will dwell in the fertile field.
And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
The work of righteousness will be peace; the service of righteousness will be quiet confidence
forever.
And my people
shall dwell in a peaceable
habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;
Then my people will dwell in a peaceful place, in safe and secure places of rest.
When it
shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city
shall be low in a low place.
But
hail will level the forest, and the city will sink to the depths.
Woe to you, O destroyer never destroyed, O
traitor never
betrayed! When you have finished destroying, you will be destroyed. When you have finished
betraying, you will be
betrayed.
And your
spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and
fro of locusts
shall he run upon them.
Your
spoil, O nations, is gathered as by locusts; like a
swarm of locusts men
sweep over it.
And wisdom and knowledge
shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his
treasure.
He will be the sure foundation for your times, a
storehouse of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the LORD is
Zion’s
treasure.
Behold, their
valiant ones
shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace
shall weep bitterly.
Behold, their
valiant ones cry
aloud in the streets; the envoys of peace
weep bitterly.
Ye
shall conceive
chaff, ye
shall bring forth
stubble: your breath, as fire,
shall devour you.
And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.
The peoples will be burned to ashes, like thorns cut down and set
ablaze.
The sinners in
Zion are afraid;
fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us
shall dwell with the
devouring fire? who among us
shall dwell with
everlasting burnings?
He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.
he will dwell on the heights; the mountain fortress will be his refuge; his food will be provided and his water
assured.
Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.
Your eyes will see the King in His beauty and behold a land that stretches
afar.
Thine heart
shall meditate terror. Where is the
scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
Your mind will
ponder the former terror: “Where is he who
tallies? Where is he who weighs? Where is he who counts the towers?”
Look upon
Zion, the city of our
solemnities: thine eyes
shall see Jerusalem a quiet
habitation, a tabernacle that
shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof
shall ever be removed, neither
shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our appointed feasts. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful pasture, a tent that does not
wander; its tent pegs will not be pulled up, nor will any of its cords be broken.
But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein
shall go no
galley with oars, neither
shall gallant ship pass thereby.
But there the
Majestic One, our LORD, will be for us a place of rivers and wide canals, where no
galley with oars will row, and no
majestic vessel will pass.
And the inhabitant
shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein
shall be
forgiven their iniquity.
And no resident of
Zion will say, “I am sick.” The people who dwell there will be
forgiven of iniquity.
Their slain also
shall be cast out, and their
stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains
shall be melted with their blood.
Their slain will be left unburied, and the
stench of their corpses will rise; the mountains will flow with their blood.
And all the host of heaven
shall be dissolved, and the heavens
shall be rolled together as a
scroll: and all their host
shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.
All the stars of heaven will be dissolved. The
skies will be rolled up like a
scroll, and all their stars will fall like
withered leaves from the vine, like foliage from the fig tree.
For my sword
shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it
shall come down upon
Idumea, and upon the people of my
curse, to judgment.
When My sword has
drunk its fill in the heavens, then it will come down upon
Edom, upon the people I have devoted to destruction.
And the unicorns
shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land
shall be
soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.
And the wild oxen will fall with them, the young bulls with the strong ones. Their land will be
drenched with blood, and their soil will be
soaked with fat.
And the streams thereof
shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into
brimstone, and the land thereof
shall become burning pitch.
Edom’s streams will be turned to tar, and her soil to sulfur; her land will become a
blazing pitch.
It
shall not be
quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof
shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it
shall lie waste; none
shall pass through it for ever and ever.
It will not be
quenched—day or night. Its smoke will
ascend forever. From generation to generation it will lie
desolate; no one will ever again pass through it.
But the
cormorant and the
bittern shall possess it; the
owl also and the
raven shall dwell in it: and he
shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of
emptiness.
The desert
owl and
screech owl will possess it, and the great
owl and
raven will dwell in it. The LORD will stretch out over
Edom a measuring line of
chaos and a
plumb line of destruction.
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
No nobles will be left to
proclaim a king, and all her princes will come to nothing.
And thorns
shall come up in her palaces,
nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it
shall be an
habitation of
dragons, and a court for owls.
Her towers will be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She will become a
haunt for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
The wild beasts of the desert
shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the
satyr shall cry to his fellow; the
screech owl also
shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
The desert creatures will meet with
hyenas, and one wild goat will call to another. There the night creature will settle and find her place of
repose.
There
shall the great
owl make her nest, and lay, and
hatch, and gather under her shadow: there
shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her
mate.
There the
owl will make her nest; she will lay and
hatch her eggs and gather her
brood under her shadow. Even there the birds of prey will gather, each with its
mate.
Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these
shall fail, none
shall want her
mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
Search and read the
scroll of the LORD: Not one of these will go missing, not one will lack her
mate, because He has ordered it by His mouth, and He will gather them by His Spirit.
And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
He has
allotted their portion; His hand has distributed it by measure. They will possess it
forever; they will dwell in it from generation to generation.
The wilderness and the solitary place
shall be
glad for them; and the desert
shall rejoice, and
blossom as the rose.
The wilderness and the land will be
glad; the desert will
rejoice and
blossom like a rose.
Then the eyes of the blind
shall be opened, and the ears of the
deaf shall be unstopped.
Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the
deaf unstopped.
Then
shall the
lame man
leap as an
hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing: for in the wilderness
shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
Then the
lame will
leap like a deer and the
mute tongue will
shout for joy. For waters will
gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
The
parched ground will become a
pool, the
thirsty land springs of water. In the
haunt where jackals once lay, there will be grass and reeds and
papyrus.
And an
highway shall be there, and a way, and it
shall be called The way of
holiness; the unclean
shall not pass over it; but it
shall be for those: the
wayfaring men, though fools,
shall not
err therein.
And there will be a
highway called the Way of
Holiness. The unclean will not travel it— only those who walk in the Way— and fools will not
stray onto it.
No lion
shall be there, nor any
ravenous beast
shall go up
thereon, it
shall not be found there; but the redeemed
shall walk there:
No lion will be there, and no
vicious beast will go up on it. Such will not be found there, but the redeemed will walk upon it.
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye
shall worship before this altar?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this altar’?
Thus saith the king, Let not
Hezekiah deceive you: for he
shall not be able to deliver you.
This is what the king says: Do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, for he cannot deliver you.
Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city
shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Do not let
Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus
shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard,
wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed me.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed Me.
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a
rumor and return to his own land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
Thus
shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest,
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem
shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
And this
shall be a sign unto thee, Ye
shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year
sow ye, and
reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
And this will be a sign to you, O
Hezekiah: This year you will eat what grows on its own, and in the second year what springs from the same. But in the third year you will
sow and
reap; you will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
And the
remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah
shall again take root
downward, and bear fruit upward:
And the
surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root below and bear fruit above.
For out of Jerusalem
shall go forth a
remnant, and they that escape out of mount
Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts
shall do this.
For a
remnant will go forth from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount
Zion. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will
accomplish this.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He
shall not come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He will not enter this city or shoot an
arrow into it. He will not come before it with a shield or build up a siege
ramp against it.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ declares the LORD.
And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken;
This will be a sign to you from the LORD that He will do what He has promised:
I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.
I said, “In the prime of my life I must go through the gates of
Sheol and be deprived of the remainder of my years.”
I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.
What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
What can I say? He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done this. I will walk slowly all my years because of the
anguish of my soul.
The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
The living, only the living, can
thank You, as I do
today; fathers will tell their children about Your faithfulness.
For Isaiah had said, Let them take a
lump of figs, and lay it for a
plaister upon the
boil, and he
shall recover.
Now Isaiah had said, “Prepare a
lump of pressed figs and apply it to the
boil, and he will recover.”
Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I
shall go up to the house of the LORD?
And
Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the house of the LORD?”
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
And of thy sons that
shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget,
shall they take away; and they
shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
