But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.
But my eyes are fixed on You, O GOD the Lord. In You I seek refuge; do not leave my soul
defenseless.
I
cried unto
thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.
I cry to You, O LORD: “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
I stretch forth my hands unto
thee: my soul thirsteth after
thee, as a
thirsty land.
Selah.
I stretch out my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You like a
parched land.
Selah Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
Let me hear Your loving devotion in the morning, for I have put my trust in You. Teach me the way I should walk, for to You I lift up my soul.

flee unto
thee to hide me.

flee to You for refuge.
I will sing a new song unto
thee, O God: upon a
psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto
thee.
I will sing to You a new song, O God; on a
harp of ten strings I will make music to You—
I will
extol thee, my God, O king; and I will
bless thy name for ever and ever.
Every day will I
bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.
Every day I will
bless You, and I will praise Your name
forever and ever.

thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall
bless thee.

thanks, O LORD, and Your saints will
bless You.

entice thee, consent thou not.

entice you, do not yield to them.

wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with
thee;

thee, understanding shall keep
thee:
Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you,
To deliver
thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh
froward things;
to deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks
perversity,

It will
rescue you from the forbidden woman, from the stranger with
seductive words

tablet of your heart.

morrow I will give; when thou hast it by
thee.

neighbor, “Come back
tomorrow and I will provide”— when you already have the means.

thee.

devise evil against your
neighbor, for he trustfully dwells beside you.

thee no
harm.

accuse a man without cause, when he has done you no
harm.

thee: love her, and she shall keep
thee.

forsake wisdom, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will guard you.

thee: she shall bring
thee to honour, when thou
dost embrace her.

exalt you; if you embrace her, she will honor you.

garland of grace on your head; she will present you with a crown of beauty.”

gaze straight
ahead.

roe; let her breasts satisfy
thee at all times; and be thou
ravished always with her love.

awake, they will speak to you.

thee from the evil woman, from the
flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

thee with her eyelids.

thee,
diligently to seek thy face, and I have found
thee.

Have I not written for you thirty sayings about counsel and knowledge,

despise your mother when she is old.

glad, and she that bare
thee shall
rejoice.
May your father and mother be
glad, and may she who gave you birth
rejoice!
For better it is that it be said unto
thee, Come up
hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
for it is better that he says to you, “Come up here!” than that you should be demoted in the presence of the prince. Even what you have seen with your own eyes,
Go not forth
hastily to
strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put
thee to shame.
do not bring
hastily to court. Otherwise, what will you do in the end when your
neighbor puts you to shame?

thee to shame, and thine
infamy turn not away.
lest the one who hears may disgrace you, and your
infamy never go away.

Two things I ask of You— do not refuse me before I die:
Lest I be full, and deny
thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and
steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
Otherwise, I may have too much and deny You, saying, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and
steal,
profaning the name of my God.

curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

curse you, and you will bear the guilt.
I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove
thee with
mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.

futile.
Also take no
heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant
curse thee:
Do not pay attention to every word that is spoken, or you may hear your servant
cursing you.

Live
joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given
thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring
thee into judgment.
Rejoice, O young man, while you are young, and let your heart be
glad in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.

ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love
thee.

thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be
glad and
rejoice in
thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love
thee.
Take me away with you—let us
hurry! May the king bring me to his chambers. We will
rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. It is only right that they
adore you.
I have compared
thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s
chariots.
We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.
We will make you ornaments of gold,
studded with beads of silver.
Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.
You are altogether beautiful, my
darling; in you there is no
flaw.
Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women?
whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with
thee.
Where has your beloved gone, O most beautiful among women? Which way has he turned? We will seek him with you.
Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon thee. What will ye see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies.
Come back, come back, O Shulammite! Come back, come back, that we may
gaze upon you. Why do you look at the Shulammite, as on the dance of
Mahanaim?
Thine head upon
thee is like
Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple; the king is held in the
galleries.
Your head crowns you like Mount
Carmel, the hair of your head like purple threads; the king is captured in your tresses.
Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine
flourish, whether the tender
grape appear, and the pomegranates
bud forth: there will I give
thee my loves.
Let us go early to the vineyards to see if the vine has
budded, if the
blossom has opened, if the pomegranates are in
bloom— there I will give you my love.
The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.
The mandrakes send forth a
fragrance, and at our door is every delicacy, new as well as old, that I have
treasured up for you, my beloved.
O that thou
wert as my brother, that
sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find
thee without, I would
kiss thee;
yea, I should not be
despised.
O that you were to me like a brother who
nursed at my mother’s breasts! If I found you outdoors, I would
kiss you, and no one would
despise me.
I would lead
thee, and bring
thee into my mother’s house, who would
instruct me: I would cause
thee to drink of
spiced wine of the juice of my
pomegranate.
I would lead you and bring you to the house of my mother who taught me. I would give you
spiced wine to drink, the
nectar of my pomegranates.
Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness,
leaning upon her beloved? I raised
thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought
thee forth: there she brought
thee forth that bare
thee.
Who is this coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on her beloved? I
roused you under the apple tree; there your mother conceived you; there she
travailed and brought you forth.
And I will turn my hand upon
thee, and purely
purge away thy
dross, and take away all thy tin:
I will turn My hand against you; I will thoroughly
purge your
dross; I will remove all your impurities.
Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.
Go into the rocks and hide in the dust from the terror of the LORD and the
splendor of His majesty.
As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead
thee cause
thee to
err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Youths
oppress My people, and women rule over them. O My people, your guides mislead you; they turn you from your paths.
Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
For
Aram, along with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has
plotted your ruin, saying:
Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
“Ask for a sign from the LORD your God, whether from the depths of
Sheol or the heights of heaven.”
The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.
The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since the day Ephraim separated from Judah—He will bring the king of Assyria.”
Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take
thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
Then the LORD said to me, “Take a large
scroll and write on it with an ordinary
stylus: Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before
thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men
rejoice when they divide the
spoil.
You have enlarged the nation and increased its joy. The people
rejoice before You as they
rejoice at harvest time, as men
rejoice in dividing the
plunder.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in
Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall
smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against
thee, after the manner of Egypt.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD of Hosts says: “O My people who dwell in
Zion, do not fear Assyria, who strikes you with a rod and lifts his staff against you as the Egyptians did.
And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise
thee: though thou
wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.
In that day you will say: “O LORD, I will praise You. Although You were
angry with me, Your anger has turned away, and You have comforted me.
Cry out and
shout, thou inhabitant of
Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of
thee.
Cry out and sing, O citizen of
Zion, for great among you is the Holy One of Israel.”
And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give
thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard
bondage wherein thou
wast made to serve,
On the day that the LORD gives you rest from your pain and
torment, and from the hard labor into which you were forced,
Yea, the
fir trees
rejoice at
thee, and the cedars of
Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.
Hell from beneath is moved for
thee to meet
thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for
thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
Sheol beneath is eager to meet you upon your arrival. It stirs the spirits of the dead to
greet you— all the rulers of the earth. It makes all the kings of the nations rise from their thrones.
All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?
They will all
respond to you, saying, “You too have become weak, as we are; you have become like us!”
Thy
pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under
thee, and the worms cover
thee.
Your
pomp has been brought down to
Sheol, along with the music of your harps. Maggots are your bed and worms your
blanket.
They that see
thee shall narrowly look upon
thee, and consider
thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to
tremble, that did
shake kingdoms;
Those who see you will
stare; they will
ponder your fate: “Is this the man who
shook the earth and made the kingdoms
tremble,
Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that
smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a
cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a
fiery flying serpent.
Do not
rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken. For a
viper will spring from the root of the
snake, and a flying serpent from its egg.
Let mine outcasts dwell with
thee, Moab; be thou a
covert to them from the face of the
spoiler: for the
extortioner is at an end, the
spoiler ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.
Let my fugitives stay with you; be a refuge for Moab from the destroyer.” When the
oppressor has gone, destruction has ceased, and the oppressors have
vanished from the land,
Therefore I will
bewail with the
weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water
thee with my tears, O
Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the
shouting for thy summer fruits and for thy harvest is fallen.
So I
weep with Jazer for the vines of Sibmah; I
drench Heshbon and Elealeh with my tears.
Triumphant shouts have fallen silent over your summer fruit and your harvest.
