And the wave breast and
heave shoulder shall ye eat in a clean place; thou, and thy sons, and thy daughters with thee: for they be thy due, and thy sons’ due, which are given out of the sacrifices of peace offerings of the children of Israel.
And you and your sons and daughters may eat the breast of the wave offering and the
thigh of the contribution in a
ceremonially clean place, because these portions
have been assigned to you and your children from the peace offerings of the sons of Israel.
Wherefore
have ye not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and God hath given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make
atonement for them before the LORD?
“Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the holy place? For it is most holy; it was given to you to take away the guilt of the congregation by making
atonement for them before the LORD.
Behold, the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded.
Since its blood was not brought inside the holy place, you should have eaten it in the sanctuary area, as I commanded.”
And Aaron said unto Moses, Behold, this day
have they offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD; and such things
have befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering to day, should it
have been accepted in the sight of the LORD?
But Aaron replied to Moses, “Behold, this very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD. Since these things
have happened to me, if I had eaten the sin offering
today, would it
have been acceptable in the sight of the LORD?”
Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that
chew the
cud, or of them that divide the
hoof: as the
camel, because he cheweth the
cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
But of those that only
chew the
cud or only
have a divided
hoof, you are not to eat the following: The
camel, though it chews the
cud, does not
have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
And the
coney, because he cheweth the
cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
The rock
badger, though it chews the
cud, does not
have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
And the
hare, because he cheweth the
cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
The
rabbit, though it chews the
cud, does not
have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
And all that
have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an
abomination unto you:
But the following among all the
teeming life and creatures in the water are
detestable to you: everything in the seas or streams that does not
have fins and scales.
They shall be even an
abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall
have their carcases in
abomination.
Everything in the water that does not
have fins and scales shall be
detestable to you.
Yet these may ye eat of every flying
creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which
have legs above their feet, to
leap withal upon the earth;
However, you may eat the following kinds of flying insects that walk on all fours: those having jointed legs above their feet for
hopping on the ground.
All other flying insects that
have four legs are
detestable to you.
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman
have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her
infirmity shall she be unclean.
“Say to the Israelites, ‘A woman who becomes
pregnant and gives birth to a son will be unclean for seven days, as she is during the days of her
menstruation.
When a man shall
have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a
scab, or a bright spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh like the plague of
leprosy; then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the priests:
“When someone has a swelling or
rash or bright spot on his skin that could become an
infectious skin disease, he must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons who is a priest.
And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the rising be white in the skin, and it have turned the hair white, and there be quick raw flesh in the rising;
The priest will examine him, and if there is a white swelling on the skin that has turned the hair white, and there is raw flesh in the swelling,
Then the priest shall consider: and, behold, if the
leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall
pronounce him clean that hath the plague: it is all turned white: he is clean.
the priest shall examine him, and if the disease has covered his entire body, he is to
pronounce the
infected person clean. Since it has all turned white, he is clean.
Or if there be any flesh, in the skin
whereof there is a hot burning, and the quick flesh that burneth
have a white bright spot, somewhat reddish, or white;
When there is a burn on someone’s skin and the raw area of the burn becomes reddish-white or white,
If a man or woman
have a plague upon the head or the
beard;
If a man also or a woman have in the skin of their flesh bright spots, even white bright spots;
When a man or a woman has white spots on the skin,
And the priest shall look on the plague, after that it is washed: and, behold, if the plague
have not changed his colour, and the plague be not spread; it is unclean; thou shalt burn it in the fire; it is
fret inward, whether it be bare within or without.
After it has been washed, the priest is to reexamine it, and if the
mildewed article has not changed in appearance, it is unclean. Even though the
mildew has not spread, you must burn it, whether the
rot is on the front or back.
And he shall cause the house to be
scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they
scrape off without the city into an unclean place:
And he shall
have the inside of the house
scraped completely and the
plaster that is
scraped off
dumped into an unclean place outside the city.
And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath
scraped the house, and after it is plaistered;
If the
mildew reappears in the house after the stones
have been
torn out and the house has been
scraped and replastered,
And if a woman
have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and
whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.
When a woman has a discharge consisting of blood from her body, she will be unclean due to her
menstruation for seven days, and
anyone who touches her will be unclean until evening.
And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.
When a woman has a discharge of her blood for many days at a time other than her
menstrual period, or if it continues beyond her period, she will be unclean all the days of her unclean discharge, just as she is during the days of her
menstruation.
He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall
have the linen
breeches upon his flesh, and shall be
girded with a linen
girdle, and with the linen
mitre shall he be
attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.
He is to wear the sacred linen
tunic, with linen undergarments. He must
tie a linen
sash around him and put on the linen
turban. These are holy garments, and he must
bathe himself with water before he wears them.
And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an
atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and
have made an
atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.
No one may be in the Tent of Meeting from the time Aaron goes in to make
atonement in the Most Holy Place until he leaves, after he has made
atonement for himself, his household, and the whole assembly of Israel.
To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD.
For this reason the Israelites will bring to the LORD the sacrifices they have been offering in the open fields. They are to bring them to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and offer them as sacrifices of peace to the LORD.
And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they
have gone a
whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.
They must no longer offer their sacrifices to the goat demons to which they
have prostituted themselves. This will be a permanent statute for them for the generations to come.’
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I
have given it to you upon the altar to make an
atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an
atonement for the soul.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I
have given it to you to make
atonement for your souls upon the altar; for it is the blood that makes
atonement for the soul.
For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof:
whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
For the life of all flesh is its blood. Therefore I
have told the Israelites, ‘You must not eat the blood of any living thing, because the life of all flesh is its blood;
whoever eats it must be cut off.’
None of you shall approach to any that is near of
kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.
None of you are to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.
The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
You must not
expose the nakedness of your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; you must not
have sexual relations with her.
The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness.
You must not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; it would dishonor your father.
The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.
You must not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
The nakedness of thy son’s daughter, or of thy daughter’s daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness.
You must not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for that would shame your family.
The nakedness of thy father’s wife’s daughter,
begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
You must not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s sister: she is thy father’s near
kinswoman.
You must not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister: for she is thy mother’s near
kinswoman.
You must not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine
aunt.
You must not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to
have sexual relations with her; she is your
aunt.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son’s wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
You must not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; you are not to have sexual relations with her.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother’s wife: it is thy brother’s nakedness.
You must not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would shame your brother.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near
kinswomen: it is wickedness.
You must not
have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. You are not to marry her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter and
have sexual relations with her. They are close relatives; it is
depraved.
Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to
vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
You must not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is still alive.
Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.
You must not approach a woman to
have sexual relations with her during her
menstrual period.
Defile not ye
yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are
defiled which I cast out before you:
Do not
defile yourselves by any of these practices, for by all these things the nations I am driving out before you
have defiled themselves.
(For all these abominations
have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is
defiled;)
For the men who were in the land before you committed all these abominations, and the land has become
defiled.
And when ye shall come into the land, and shall
have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as
uncircumcised: three years shall it be as
uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of.
When you enter the land and plant any kind of tree for food, you shall regard the fruit as forbidden. For three years it will be forbidden to you and must not be eaten.
Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
You must keep My Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary. I am the LORD.
Regard not them that
have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be
defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
You must not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out, or you will be
defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.
Just balances, just weights, a just
ephah, and a just
hin, shall ye
have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
You shall maintain
honest scales and weights, an
honest ephah, and an
honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
And the soul that turneth after such as
have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a
whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
Whoever turns to mediums or spiritists to
prostitute himself with them, I will also set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.
And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both must surely be put to death. They
have acted
perversely; their blood is upon them.
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them
have committed an
abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man lies with a man as with a woman, they
have both committed an
abomination. They must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
And if a man shall take his sister, his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister’s nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.
If a man marries his sister, whether the daughter of his father or of his mother, and they have sexual relations, it is a disgrace. They must be cut off in the sight of their people. He has uncovered the nakedness of his sister; he shall bear his iniquity.
And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister, nor of thy father’s sister: for he uncovereth his near
kin: they shall bear their iniquity.
You must not
have sexual relations with the sister of your mother or your father, for it is
exposing one’s own
kin; both shall bear their iniquity.
But I
have said unto you, Ye shall
inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which
have separated you from other people.
But I
have told you that you will
inherit their land, since I will give it to you as an inheritance—a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the peoples.
Ye shall therefore put difference between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean: and ye shall not make your souls
abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth on the ground, which I
have separated from you as unclean.
You are therefore to distinguish between clean and unclean animals and birds. Do not become
contaminated by any animal or bird, or by anything that crawls on the ground; I
have set these apart as unclean for you.
And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be My own.
Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they
profane not my holy name in those things which they
hallow unto me: I am the LORD.
“Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings that the Israelites
have consecrated to Me, so that they do not
profane My holy name. I am the LORD.
But if the priest’s daughter be a widow, or
divorced, and
have no child, and is returned unto her father’s house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father’s meat: but there shall no stranger eat thereof.
But if a priest’s daughter with no children becomes widowed or
divorced and returns to her father’s house, she may share her father’s food as in her youth. But no outsider may share it.
On the first day you are to hold a sacred assembly; you are not to do any regular work.
And ye shall eat neither bread, nor
parched corn, nor green ears, until the
selfsame day that ye
have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
You must not eat any bread or
roasted or new grain until the very day you
have brought this offering to your God. This is to be a permanent statute for the generations to come, wherever you live.
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye
have a sabbath, a
memorial of blowing of
trumpets, an holy
convocation.
“Speak to the Israelites and say, ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to
have a day of rest, a sacred assembly
announced by
trumpet blasts.
Also in the
fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye
have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.
On the
fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you
have gathered the produce of the land, you are to
celebrate a feast to the LORD for seven days. There shall be complete rest on the first day and also on the eighth day.
Bring forth him that hath
cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
“Take the
blasphemer outside the camp, and
have all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then
have the whole assembly stone him.
Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
You are to have the same standard of law for the foreign resident and the native; for I am the LORD your God.’”
That which groweth of its own
accord of thy harvest thou shalt not
reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land.
You are not to
reap the
aftergrowth of your harvest or gather the grapes of your untended vines. The land must
have a year of complete rest.
And if the man
have none to
redeem it, and himself be able to
redeem it;
Or if a man has no one to
redeem it for him, but he prospers and acquires enough to
redeem his land,
But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubile.
But houses in villages with no walls around them are to be considered as open fields. They may be redeemed, and they shall be released in the
Jubilee.
Notwithstanding the cities of the Levites, and the houses of the cities of their possession, may the Levites
redeem at any time.
As for the cities of the Levites, the Levites always
have the right to
redeem their houses in the cities they possess.
Both thy
bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt
have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye
buy bondmen and bondmaids.
Your menservants and maidservants shall come from the nations around you, from whom you may purchase them.
Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
You must keep My Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary. I am the LORD.
And your
threshing shall reach unto the
vintage, and the
vintage shall reach unto the
sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
Your
threshing will continue until the
grape harvest, and the
grape harvest will continue until
sowing time; you will
have your fill of food to eat and will dwell securely in your land.
For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish My covenant with you.
I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their
bondmen; and I
have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk in uprightness.
And when I
have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall
bake your bread in one
oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will
bake your bread in a single
oven and
dole out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.
As long as it lieth
desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.
As long as it lies
desolate, the land will
have the rest it did not receive during the Sabbaths when you lived in it.
And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
They will
stumble over one another as before the sword, though no one is behind them. So you will not be able to stand against your enemies.
If they shall
confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their
trespass which they
trespassed against me, and that also they
have walked contrary unto me;
But if they will
confess their iniquity and that of their fathers in the unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, by which they
have also walked in hostility toward Me—
And that I also
have walked contrary unto them, and
have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their
uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies—and if their
uncircumcised hearts will be humbled and they will make
amends for their iniquity,
And if he will not
redeem the field, or if he
have sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more.
If, however, he does not
redeem the field, or if he has sold it to another man, it may no longer be redeemed.
And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel.
Assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they
have been given exclusively to him from among the Israelites.
And I, behold, I
have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the
firstborn that openeth the
matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine;
“Behold, I
have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel in place of every
firstborn Israelite from the
womb. The Levites belong to Me,
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and
have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.
The chief of the leaders of the Levites was
Eleazar son of Aaron the priest; he oversaw those responsible for the duties of the sanctuary.
And when Aaron and his sons
have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of
Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of
Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.
When Aaron and his sons
have finished covering the holy objects and all their
equipment, as soon as the camp is ready to move, the Kohathites shall come and do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy objects, or they will die. These are the
transportation duties of the Kohathites regarding the Tent of Meeting.
Then they shall
confess their sin which they
have done: and he shall
recompense his
trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath
trespassed.
and must
confess the sin he has committed. He must make full
restitution, add a fifth to its value, and give all this to the one he has wronged.
But if the man has no relative to whom
restitution can be made for the wrong, the
restitution belongs to the LORD and must be given to the priest along with the ram of
atonement, by which the
atonement is made for him.
And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD:
The priest is to bring the wife forward and have her stand before the LORD.
And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering of
memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall
have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the
curse:
After the priest has the woman stand before the LORD, he is to let down her hair and place in her hands the grain offering of
memorial, which is the grain offering for jealousy. The priest is to hold the bitter water that brings a
curse.
And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man
have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the
curse:
And he is to put the woman under oath and say to her, ‘If no other man has
slept with you and you
have not gone
astray and become
defiled while under your husband’s authority, may you be
immune to this bitter water that brings a
curse.
But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be
defiled, and some man
have lain with thee beside thine husband:
Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of
cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a
curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD
doth make thy
thigh to
rot, and thy
belly to swell;
And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the
curse: and the water that causeth the
curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.
He is to
have the woman drink the bitter water that brings a
curse, and it will enter her and cause her bitter suffering.
And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the
memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.
Then the priest is to take a handful of the grain offering as a
memorial portion and burn it on the altar; after that he is to
have the woman drink the water.
And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be
defiled, and
have done
trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the
curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her
belly shall swell, and her
thigh shall
rot: and the woman shall be a
curse among her people.
When he has made her drink the water, if she has
defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, then the water that brings a
curse will enter her and cause bitter suffering; her
belly will swell, her
thigh will
shrivel, and she will become
accursed among her people.
Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be
jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall
execute upon her all this law.
or when a feeling of jealousy comes over a husband and he suspects his wife. He is to have the woman stand before the LORD, and the priest is to apply to her this entire law.
And thus shalt thou do unto them, to
cleanse them:
Sprinkle water of
purifying upon them, and let them
shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.
Then let them take a young
bullock with his meat offering, even fine flour mingled with oil, and another young
bullock shalt thou take for a sin offering.
Then have them take a young bull with its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you are to take a second young bull for a sin offering.
And thou shalt bring the Levites before the LORD: and the children of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites:
You are to present the Levites before the LORD and have the Israelites lay their hands upon them.
