froward heart
findeth no good: and he that hath a
perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
The one with a
perverse heart
finds no good, and he whose tongue is
deceitful falls into trouble.

findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

Most men will
proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can
find?

find a
trustworthy man?

He who pursues righteousness and loving devotion finds life, righteousness, and honor.
So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
Know therefore that wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, there is a future for you, and your hope will never be cut off.
Take away the
dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the
finer.
Remove the
dross from the silver, and a vessel for a
silversmith will come forth.

earring of gold, and an ornament of
fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an
obedient ear.

therewith, and
vomit it.
If you
find honey, eat just what you need, lest you have too much and
vomit it up.
As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
A
crucible for silver and a furnace for gold, but a man is tested by the praise
accorded him.

prosper: but
whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

prosper, but
whoever confesses and renounces them will
find mercy.

A wife of noble character, who can
find? She is far more precious than
rubies.
She stretches out her hands to the
distaff and grasps the
spindle with her
fingers.
She maketh herself coverings of
tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
She makes coverings for her bed; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchants.

He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set
eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot
fathom the work that God has done from beginning to end.
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
and also that every man should eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his labor—this is the gift of God.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.
A good name is better than precious
ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.
A good name is better than
fine perfume, and one’s day of death is better than his day of birth.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of
adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should
find nothing after him.

adversity, consider this: God has made one of these along with the other, so that a man cannot discover anything that will come after him.

fathom it?
And I
find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands:
whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the
sinner shall be taken by her.
And I
find more bitter than death the woman who is a
snare, whose heart is a net, and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God escapes her, but the
sinner is ensnared.
Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:
“Behold,” says the Teacher, “I have discovered this by adding one thing to another to find an explanation.
Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
While my soul was still searching but not finding, among a thousand I have found one upright man, but among all these I have not found one such woman.
Then I
beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot
find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not
find it;
yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to
find it.
I saw every work of God, and that a man is unable to
comprehend the work that is done under the sun.
Despite his efforts to search it out, he cannot
find its meaning; even if the wise man claims to know, he is unable to
comprehend.
Whatsoever thy hand
findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor
device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave,
whither thou goest.
Whatever you
find to do with your hands, do it with all your might, for in
Sheol, where you are going, there is no work or
planning or knowledge or wisdom.
Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.
Remember now thy
Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw
nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
Remember your
Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of
adversity come and the years approach of which you will say, “I
find no pleasure in them,”
The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
The Teacher searched to find delightful sayings and to record accurate words of truth.
By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
On my bed at night I sought the one I love; I sought him, but did not find him.
I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
I will arise now and go about the city, through the streets and squares. I will seek the one I love. So I sought him but did not find him.
I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with
myrrh, and my
fingers with sweet smelling
myrrh, upon the handles of the
lock.
I rose up to open for my beloved. My hands
dripped with
myrrh, my
fingers with flowing
myrrh on the handles of the
bolt.
I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.
I opened for my beloved, but he had turned and gone. My heart
sank at his departure. I sought him, but did not
find him. I called, but he did not answer.
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.
O daughters of Jerusalem, I
adjure you, if you
find my beloved, tell him I am sick with love.
His head is as the most
fine gold, his locks are
bushy, and black as a
raven.
His head is purest gold; his hair is
wavy and black as a
raven.
His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of
fine gold: his countenance is as
Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.
His legs are pillars of marble set on bases of pure gold. His appearance is like
Lebanon, as
majestic as the cedars.
And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are
asleep to speak.
and your mouth like the
finest wine. May it flow smoothly to my beloved,
gliding gently over lips and teeth.
O that thou
wert as my brother, that
sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should
find thee without, I would
kiss thee;
yea, I should not be
despised.
O that you were to me like a brother who
nursed at my mother’s breasts! If I found you outdoors, I would
kiss you, and no one would
despise me.
Thy silver is become
dross, thy wine mixed with water:
Your silver has become
dross; your
fine wine is
diluted with water.
Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:
Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made.
In that day the Lord will take away the
bravery of their
tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,
In that day the Lord will take away their
finery: their anklets and headbands and crescents;
The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.
and their mirrors, linen garments, tiaras, and shawls.
And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be
stink; and instead of a
girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair
baldness; and instead of a stomacher a
girding of
sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.
Instead of
fragrance there will be a
stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of styled hair,
baldness; instead of
fine clothing,
sackcloth; instead of beauty, shame.
And he
fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
He
dug it up and cleared the stones and planted the
finest vines. He built a
watchtower in the middle and
dug out a winepress as well. He waited for the
vineyard to yield good grapes, but the fruit it produced was
sour!
The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with
hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
“The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild with finished stone; the sycamores have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.”
I will make a man more precious than
fine gold; even a man than the golden
wedge of
Ophir.
I will make man scarcer than pure gold, and mankind rarer than the gold of
Ophir.
And the
firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the
needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall
slay thy
remnant.
Then the
firstborn of the poor will
find pasture, and the
needy will lie down in safety, but I will kill your root by famine, and your
remnant will be slain.
What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded
Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.
What answer will be given to the envoys of that nation? “The LORD has founded
Zion, where His
afflicted people will
find refuge.”
And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
They will not look to the altars they have fashioned with their hands or to the Asherahs and incense altars they have made with their fingers.
Moreover they that work in
fine flax, and they that
weave networks, shall be confounded.
The workers in flax will be dismayed, and the weavers of fine linen will turn pale.
And he said, Thou shalt no more
rejoice, O thou
oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to
Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.
He said, “You shall
rejoice no more, O
oppressed Virgin Daughter of
Sidon. Get up and cross over to
Cyprus— even there you will
find no rest.”

And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the
lees, of fat things full of
marrow, of wines on the
lees well refined.
On this mountain the LORD of Hosts will prepare a
banquet for all the peoples, a feast of aged wine, of choice meat, of
finely aged wine.
Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as
chaff that passeth away:
yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.
But your many foes will be like
fine dust, the multitude of the
ruthless like blowing
chaff. Then suddenly, in an instant,
Woe to you, O destroyer never destroyed, O
traitor never
betrayed! When you have
finished destroying, you will be destroyed. When you have
finished betraying, you will be
betrayed.
The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the
satyr shall cry to his fellow; the
screech owl also shall rest there, and
find for herself a place of rest.
The desert creatures will meet with
hyenas, and one wild goat will call to another. There the night creature will settle and
find her place of
repose.
By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my
chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of
Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice
fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his
Carmel.
Through your servants you have
taunted the Lord, and you have said: “With my many
chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the remote peaks of
Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the
finest of its
cypresses. I have reached its
farthest heights, the densest of its forests.
O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so
wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.
O Lord, by such things men live, and in all of them my spirit finds life. You have restored me to health and have let me live.
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a
bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
Surely the nations are like a drop in a
bucket; they are considered a
speck of dust on the scales; He lifts up the islands like
fine dust.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not
find them, even them that
contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of
nought.
You will seek them but will not
find them. Those who
wage war against you will come to nothing.
That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness,
Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.
to say to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Show
yourselves.’ They will feed along the pathways, and
find pasture on every barren hill.
He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.
Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest, lying down in death.
Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we
afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye
find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
“Why have we fasted, and You have not seen? Why have we humbled ourselves, and You have not noticed?” “Behold, on the day of your fast, you do as you please, and you
oppress all your workers.
Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry out, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the
finger and
malicious talk,
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
If you turn your foot from breaking the Sabbath, from doing as you please on My holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the LORD’s holy day honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way or seeking your own pleasure or speaking idle words,
For your hands are
defiled with blood, and your
fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath
muttered perverseness.
For your hands are
stained with blood, and your
fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, and your tongue mutters injustice.
We
roar all like bears, and
mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.
We all
growl like bears and
moan like doves. We hope for justice, but
find none, for salvation, but it is far from us.
Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
This is what the LORD says: “What fault did your fathers
find in Me that they
strayed so far from Me, and followed worthless idols, and became worthless themselves?
A wild
ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her month they shall
find her.
a wild
donkey at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the heat of her desire. Who can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will
find her.
Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
Moreover, your skirts are
stained with the blood of the innocent poor, though you did not
find them breaking in. But in spite of all these things
For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be
desolate; yet will I not make a full end.
For this is what the LORD says: “The whole land will be
desolate, but I will not
finish its destruction.
Run ye to and
fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can
find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will
pardon it.
“Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem. Look now and take note; search her squares. If you can
find a single person,
anyone who acts justly,
anyone who seeks the truth, then I will
forgive the city.
O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast
stricken them, but they have not
grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You
finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They have made their faces harder than stone and refused to
repent.
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD’S.
Go up through her vineyards and
ravage them, but do not
finish them off. Strip off her branches, for they do not belong to the LORD.
To whom shall I speak, and give
warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is
uncircumcised, and they cannot
hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
To whom can I give this
warning? Who will
listen to me? Look, their ears are closed, so they cannot hear. See, the word of the LORD has become offensive to them; they
find no pleasure in it.
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths: ‘Where is the good way?’ Then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’
I will
scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
I will
scatter them among the nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send a sword after them until I have
finished them off.”
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will
sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may
find it so.
For this is what the LORD says: “Behold, at this time I will
sling out the inhabitants of the land and bring distress upon them so that they may be captured.”
Pour out thy
fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and
devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his
habitation desolate.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, and on the families that do not call on Your name. For they have
devoured Jacob; they have consumed him and
finished him off; they have
devastated his homeland.
And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were
ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.
The nobles send their servants for water; they go to the cisterns, but
find no water; their jars return empty. They are
ashamed and
humiliated; they cover their heads.
When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an
oblation, I will not accept them: but I will
consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence.
Although they may fast, I will not
listen to their cry; although they may offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will
finish them off by sword and famine and plague.”
They shall die of
grievous deaths; they shall not be
lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
“They will die from deadly diseases. They will not be
mourned or buried, but will lie like dung on the ground. They will be
finished off by sword and famine, and their corpses will become food for the birds of the air and beasts of the earth.”
Howl, ye
shepherds, and cry; and
wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.
Wail, you
shepherds, and cry out; roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock. For the days of your slaughter have come; you will fall and be
shattered like
fine pottery.
Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
and as soon as he had
finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say, the priests and prophets and all the people seized him,
shouting, “You must surely die!
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
This is what the LORD says: “The people who survived the sword found favor in the wilderness when Israel went to find rest.”
And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,
When Jeremiah had finished telling all the people all the words of the LORD their God—everything that the LORD had sent him to say—
Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
I am watching over them for
harm and not for good, and every man of Judah who is in the land of Egypt will meet his end by sword or famine, until they are
finished off.
Thou
didst say,
Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I
fainted in my
sighing, and I
find no rest.
You have said, ‘
Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with
groaning and have found no rest.’”
For I will cause
Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them even my fierce anger, saith the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:
So I will
shatter Elam before their foes, before those who seek their lives. I will bring
disaster upon them, even My fierce anger,” declares the LORD. “I will send out the sword after them until I
finish them off.
And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:
When you
finish reading this
scroll,
tie a stone to it and cast it into the Euphrates.
For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast them out from his presence, that
Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
For because of the anger of the LORD, all this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He
finally banished them from His presence. And
Zedekiah also rebelled against the king of Babylon.
And the basons, and the firepans, and the
bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups; that which was of gold in gold, and that which was of silver in silver, took the captain of the guard away.
The captain of the guard also took away the basins, censers,
sprinkling bowls, pots, lampstands, pans, and drink offering
bowls—anything made of pure gold or
fine silver.
And concerning the pillars, the height of one
pillar was eighteen cubits; and a
fillet of twelve cubits did compass it; and the thickness thereof was four
fingers: it was hollow.
Each
pillar was eighteen cubits tall and twelve cubits in circumference; each was hollow, four
fingers thick.
Judah is gone into captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she
findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into exile under
affliction and harsh slavery; she dwells among the nations but
finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
And from the daughter of
Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that
find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
All the
splendor has departed from the Daughter of
Zion. Her princes are like deer that
find no pasture; they lack the strength to
flee in the face of the hunter.
